ਭਾਂਡਾ ਧੋਇ ਬੈਸਿ ਧੂਪੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਤਉ ਦੂਧੈ ਕਉ ਜਾਵਹੁ ॥
bhānhdā dhōi bais dhūp dēvah tau dūdhai kau jāvah .
Wash the vessel, sit down and anoint it with fragrance; then, go out and get the milk.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਨ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
antar vasai n bāhar jāi .
Deep within the self, the Lord abides; do not go outside looking for Him.
ਉਜਲੁ ਕੈਹਾ ਚਿਲਕਣਾ ਘੋਟਿਮ ਕਾਲੜੀ ਮਸੁ ॥
ujal kaihā chilakanā ghōtim kālarī mas .
Bronze is bright and shiny, but when it is rubbed, its blackness appears.
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ਬੇੜੁਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਵਹੇਲਾ ॥
jap tap kā bandh bērulā jit langhah vahēlā .
Build the raft of meditation and self-discipline, to carry you across the river.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਵਾਰਸੀ ॥
jin kau bhānhdai bhāu tinā savārasī .
Those whose minds are filled with love of the Lord, are blessed and exalted.
ਭਾਂਡਾ ਹਛਾ ਸੋਇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ॥
bhānhdā hashā sōi jō tis bhāvasī .
That vessel alone is pure, which is pleasing to Him.
ਜੋਗੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋਗਵੈ ਭੋਗੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
jōgī hōvai jōgavai bhōgī hōvai khāi .
The Yogi practices yoga, and the pleasure-seeker practices eating.
ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਡੰਡੈ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਭਸਮ ਚੜਾਈਐ ॥
jōg n khinthā jōg n dandai jōg n bhasam charāīai .
Yoga is not the patched coat, Yoga is not the walking stick. Yoga is not smearing the body with ashes.
ਕਉਣ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਕਵਣੁ ਤੁਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਵਣੁ ਸਰਾਫੁ ਬੁਲਾਵਾ ॥
kaun tarājī kavan tulā tērā kavan sarāph bulāvā .
What scale, what weights, and what assayer shall I call for You, Lord?
ਮਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ॥
man rām nām ārādhiā gur sabad gurū gur kē .
My mind worships and adores the Lord's Name, through the Guru, and the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਜਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਦਾਲਦ ਦਲਘਾ ॥
har har nām bhajiō purakhōtam sabh binasē dālad dalaghā .
I chant and vibrate the Name of the Lord God, the Supreme Being, Har, Har; my poverty and problems have all been eradicated.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਙੁ ॥
har nāmā har rann hai har rann majīthai rann .
The Lord's Name is the Love of the Lord. The Lord's Love is the permanent color.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
har har karah nit kapat kamāvah hiradā sudh n hōī .
One who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, while constantly practicing deception, shall never become pure of heart.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਗਰੀ ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜਾਈ ॥
guramat nagarī khōj khōjāī .
Following the Guru's Teachings, I searched and searched the body-village;
ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
har kripā karē man har rang lāē .
Showering His Mercy, the Lord imbues the mind with His Love.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
jihavā har ras rahī aghāi .
My tongue remains satisfied with the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤਿਆ ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
nīch jāt har japatiā utam padavī pāi .
When someone of low social class chants the Lord's Name, he obtains the state of highest dignity.
ਤਿਨ੍ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਲਾਰਾ ॥
tinhī antar har ārādhiā jin kau dhur likhiā likhat lilārā .
They alone worship and adore the Lord deep within, who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny from the very beginning of time.
ਜਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਤੁ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jithai har ārādhīai tithai har mit sahāī .
Wherever the Lord is worshipped in adoration, there the Lord becomes one's friend and helper.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਰਵੈ ਸੋ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
jis nō har suprasann hōi sō har gunā ravai sō bhagat sō paravān .
That mortal, with whom the Lord is pleased, repeats the Glorious Praises of the Lord; he alone is a devotee, and he alone is approved.
ਤੇਰੇ ਕਵਨ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਗਾਵਾ ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
tērē kavan kavan gun kah kah gāvā tū sāhib gunī nidhānā .
Which, which of Your Glorious Virtues should I sing and recount, Lord? You are my Lord and Master, the treasure of excellence.
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
tūn karatā sabh kish āpē jānah kiā tudh pah ākh sunāīai .
You Yourself, O Creator, know everything; what can I possibly tell You?
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
jin kai antar vasiā mērā har har tin kē sabh rōg gavāē .
Those beings, within whose inner selves my Lord, Har, Har, dwells - all their diseases are cured.
ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਸਰਬ ਰਜਾਈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਚੈ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੀਐ ॥
kītā karanā sarab rajāī kish kīchai jē kar sakīai .
All that happens, and all that will happen, is by His Will. If we could do something by ourselves, we would.
ਬਾਜੀਗਰਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
bājīgar jaisē bājī pāī .
The actor stages the play,
ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ॥
kītā lōrah sō prabh hōi .
Whatever God wills, that alone happens.
ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
dhan sōhāgan jō prabhū pashānai .
Blessed is that soul-bride, who realizes God.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਵਸਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਉ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
grih vas gur kīnā hau ghar kī nār .
The Giver has put this household of my being under my own control. I am now the mistress of the Lord's Home.
ਉਮਕਿਓ ਹੀਉ ਮਿਲਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾਈ ॥
umakiō hīu milan prabh tāī .
An intense yearning to meet God has welled up in my heart.
ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਲੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੇ ॥
kiā gun tērē sār samhālī mōh niragun kē dātārē .
What virtues and excellences of Yours should I cherish and contemplate? I am worthless, while You are the Great Giver.
ਸੇਵਾ ਥੋਰੀ ਮਾਗਨੁ ਬਹੁਤਾ ॥
sēvā thōrī māgan bahutā .
His service is insignificant, but his demands are very great.
ਬੁਰੇ ਕਾਮ ਕਉ ਊਠਿ ਖਲੋਇਆ ॥
burē kām kau ūth khalōiā .
He gets up early, to do his evil deeds,
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ghar mah thākur nadar n āvai .
Within the home of his own self, he does not even come to see his Lord and Master.
ਲਾਲਨੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਕਵਨ ਗਤੀ ਰੀ ॥
lālan rāviā kavan gatī rī .
How have you enjoyed your Dear Beloved?
ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
tūn jīvan tūn prān adhārā .
You are my Life, the very Support of my breath of life.
ਸੂਖ ਮਹਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਊਚ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
sūkh mahal jā kē ūch duārē .
His Mansions are so comfortable, and His gates are so lofty.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਪਾਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
jā kai daras pāp kōt utārē .
By the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, millions of sins are erased.
ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
rahan n pāvah sur nar dēvā .
The angelic beings and demi-gods are not permitted to remain here.
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਬਸਾਰੇ ॥
ghat ghat antar tumah basārē .
You dwell deep within the heart of each and every being.
ਕਵਨ ਕਾਜ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kavan kāj māiā vadiāī .
What is the use of the glory of Maya?
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ॥
simar simar tā kau hau jīvā .
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on Him, I live.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
gur kai bachan ridai dhiān dhārī .
Within my heart, I meditate on the Word of the Guru's Teachings.
ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ॥
lōbh mōh magan aparādhī .
The sinner is absorbed in greed and emotional attachment.
ਪੇਖਤ ਚਾਖਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਅੰਧਾ ਸੁਨੀਅਤ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
pēkhat chākhat kahīat andhā sunīat sunīai nāhī .
He sees with his eyes, but he is called blind; he hears, but he does not hear.
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
jīvat marai bujhai prabh sōi .
One who remains dead while yet alive understands God.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
gur paramēsar karanaihār .
The Guru is the Transcendent Lord, the Creator Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
gur apunē ūpar bal jāīai .
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
darasan dēkh jīvā gur tērā .
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, I live.
ਮੀਤੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਭਾਈ ॥
mīt sājan sut bandhap bhāī .
He is my friend, companion, child, relative and sibling.
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਹਾ ॥
gun gōpāl prabh kē nit gāhā .
Where the Glorious Praises of God, the Lord of the world are continually sung,
