Naam Simran (“we,” “us,” “the app”) is a companion for engaging with Gurbani and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and your choices. It applies to our website (naamsimran.ai) and our iOS and Android apps.

We built Naam Simran as a seva. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information (only if you sign in): When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address, name, and profile picture to create and secure your account. Sign-in is optional — most of the app works without an account.
  • Content you create: Bookmarks, personal reflection notes, and your reading / Sehaj Paath progress, so they sync to your account.
  • Questions you ask: When you use “Ask Gurbani” or “Personal Hukam,” the text you enter is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a scripture-based response. We do not use the content of your questions for analytics or advertising.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage and analytics data: We use PostHog (privacy-focused, EU-hosted) to understand which pages and features are used. This is anonymous, is not linked to your identity, and is not used for tracking or advertising. We do not capture the content of your questions or reflections.
  • Device and diagnostic data: Basic device and app information and crash data, to keep the app stable.

Information collected with your permission

  • Location: If you use the Gurdwara finder, the app may request your device location to show nearby Gurdwaras. Location is used only for that feature, only with your permission, and is not stored by us.
  • Push notifications: If you enable notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging to register a device token so we can send reminders such as the daily Hukamnama.

Donations

Donations are processed on the web by Stripe. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe; we do not receive or store your card number. Stripe may collect your email to send a receipt.

How we use information

  • To provide the app’s features (responses, bookmarks, reflections, reading progress, Hukamnama, Gurdwara finder).
  • To keep your account secure and synced across devices.
  • To understand usage and improve the app (anonymous analytics).
  • To diagnose crashes and maintain reliability.
  • To send notifications you have opted into.

Service providers we use

We share limited data with trusted providers only to operate the app. They process data on our behalf and may not use it for their own purposes. We do not sell or rent your personal information.

  • Supabase — accounts, authentication, and your saved content
  • OpenAI — generating scripture-based responses to your questions
  • PostHog (EU) — anonymous product analytics
  • Firebase (Google) — push notifications
  • Stripe — processing donations (web)
  • Google Maps — finding nearby Gurdwaras
  • Cloudflare — serving audio and fonts
  • Railway — hosting

Data retention

  • Account information and saved content are kept while your account is active.
  • Anonymous analytics are retained per our analytics provider’s standard retention period.
  • You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see “Your rights”).

Your rights

Depending on your location (including under the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, or to delete your account and its data, contact us at hello@naamsimran.ai.

General audience

Naam Simran is intended for a general audience and is suitable for people of all ages, including features such as learning Gurmukhi. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, we do not require an account to use the app, and we do not show advertising or use data for advertising to anyone. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at hello@naamsimran.ai and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.

International transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.
