ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sūhī mahalā 5 .
Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ghar mah thākur nadar n āvai .
Within the home of his own self, he does not even come to see his Lord and Master.
ਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਲਟਕਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
gal mah pāhan lai latakāvai .1.
And yet, around his neck, he hangs a stone god. ||1||
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਤਾ ॥
bharamē bhūlā sākat phiratā .
The faithless cynic wanders around, deluded by doubt.
ਨੀਰੁ ਬਿਰੋਲੈ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮਰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nīr birōlai khap khap maratā .1. rahāu .
He churns water, and after wasting his life away, he dies. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਹਣ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਹਤਾ ॥
jis pāhan kau thākur kahatā .
That stone, which he calls his god,
ਓਹੁ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਉਸ ਕਉ ਡੁਬਤਾ ॥੨॥
ōh pāhan lai us kau dubatā .2.
that stone pulls him down and drowns him. ||2||
ਗੁਨਹਗਾਰ ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ॥
gunahagār lūn harāmī .
O sinner, you are untrue to your own self;
ਪਾਹਣ ਨਾਵ ਨ ਪਾਰਗਿਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥
pāhan nāv n pāragirāmī .3.
a boat of stone will not carry you across. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gur mil nānak thākur jātā .
Meeting the Guru, O Nanak, I know my Lord and Master.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥
jal thal mahīal pūran bidhātā .4.3.9.
The Perfect Architect of Destiny is pervading and permeating the water, the land and the sky. ||4||3||9||
