ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਨਿਲਜ ਲਾਜ ਤੋੁਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
rē jī nilaj lāj tōh nāhī .
O shameless being, don't you feel ashamed?
ਕਉਨੁ ਕੋ ਪੂਤੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਾ ਕੋ ॥
kaun kō pūt pitā kō kā kō .
Whose son is he? Whose father is he?
ਅਬ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
ab mō kau bhaē rājā rām sahāī .
Now, the Lord, my King, has become my help and support.
ਜਲਿ ਹੈ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਥਲਿ ਹੈ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਸੂਤਕ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
jal hai sūtak thal hai sūtak sūtak ōpat hōī .
There is pollution in the water, and pollution on the land; whatever is born is polluted.
ਸਭਨਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਆਇਆ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਸਭਨਾਹ ॥
sabhanā maranā āiā vēshōrā sabhanāh .
Death comes to all, and all must suffer separation.
ਮਨੁ ਹਾਲੀ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਰਮੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਤੁ ॥
man hālī kirasānī karanī saram pānī tan khēt .
Make your mind the farmer, good deeds the farm, modesty the water, and your body the field.
ਮਾਇ ਬਾਪ ਕੋ ਬੇਟਾ ਨੀਕਾ ਸਸੁਰੈ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਜਵਾਈ ॥
māi bāp kō bētā nīkā sasurai chatur javāī .
The son is dear to his mother and father; he is the wise son-in-law to his father-in-law.
ਪੁੜੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਪੁੜੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਸਣੁ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਚਉਬਾਰਾ ॥
pur dharatī pur pānī āsan chār kunt chaubārā .
In the realm of land, and in the realm of water, Your seat is the chamber of the four directions.
ਹਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਤਿਤੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਾਖੰਡੀ ਤੂ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
hau pāpī patit param pākhandī tū niramal nirankārī .
I am a wicked sinner and a great hypocrite; You are the Immaculate and Formless Lord.
ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗੰਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
alakh apār aganm agōchar nā tis kāl n karamā .
He is unknowable, infinite, unapproachable and imperceptible. He is not subject to death or karma.
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
jiu mīnā bin pānīai tiu sākat marai piās .
Like a fish without water is the faithless cynic, who dies of thirst.
ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਮ ਥਾਰੇ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
tū prabh dātā dān mat pūrā ham thārē bhēkhārī jīu .
You, God, are the Giver of gifts, the Lord of perfect understanding; I am a mere beggar at Your Door.
ਜਿਸੁ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ ਜਗਿ ਆਏ ਸੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
jis jal nidh kāran tum jag āē sō anmrit gur pāhī jīu .
The treasure of the Name, for which you have come into the world - that Ambrosial Nectar is with the Guru.
ਅਪਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਮੂਸਤ ਰਾਖਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਕੀ ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹਨ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
apanā ghar mūsat rākh n sākah kī par ghar jōhan lāgā .
You cannot save your own home from being plundered; why do you spy on the houses of others?
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਧੁਰਾਹੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
sarab jīā sir lēkh dhurāhū bin lēkhai nahī kōī jīu .
Destiny, pre-ordained by the Lord, looms over the heads of all beings; no one is without this pre-ordained destiny.
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
jā tis bhāvā tad hī gāvā .
When I am pleasing to Him, then I sing His Praises.
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
sēvak sēv karah sabh tērī jin sabadai sād āiā .
All of Your servants, who relish the Word of Your Shabad, serve You.
ਭਗਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਉ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhagat khajānā bhagatan kau dīā nāu har dhan sach sōi .
The True Lord has blessed His devotees with the treasure of devotional worship, and the wealth of the Lord's Name.
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
dāsan dās hōvai tā har pāē vichah āp gavāī .
If one becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves, then he finds the Lord, and eradicates ego from within.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਨੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਸਾ ॥
har jīu tudh nō sadā sālāhī piārē jichar ghat antar hai sāsā .
Dear Beloved Lord, I praise You continually, as long as there is the breath within my body.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
guramukh bhagat karah prabh bhāvah anadin nām vakhānē .
The Gurmukhs practice devotional worship, and become pleasing to God; night and day, they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਸਖਾ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
sō sikh sakhā bandhap hai bhāī j gur kē bhānē vich āvai .
He alone is a Sikh, a friend, a relative and a sibling, who walks in the Way of the Guru's Will.
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚੀ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
sachī bhagat satigur tē hōvai sachī hiradai bānī .
True devotional worship is obtained only through the True Guru, when the True Word of His Bani is in the heart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਭਾਈ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝ ਪਾਇ ॥
satigur miliai ulatī bhaī bhāī jīvat marai tā būjh pāi .
Meeting the True Guru, one turns away from the world, O Siblings of Destiny; when he remains dead while yet alive, he obtains true understanding.
ਤਿਹੀ ਗੁਣੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥
tihī gunī tribhavan viāpiā bhāī guramukh būjh bujhāi .
The three worlds are entangled in the three qualities, O Siblings of Destiny; the Guru imparts understanding.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਜਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
satigur sukh sāgar jag antar hōr thai sukh nāhī .
The True Guru is the ocean of peace in the world; there is no other place of rest and peace.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
bin satigur sēvē bahutā dukh lāgā jug chārē bharamāī .
Without serving the True Guru, he suffers in terrible pain, and throughout the four ages, he wanders aimlessly.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
satigur sēvē tā sahaj dhun upajai gat mat tad hī pāē .
Serving the True Guru, the divine melody wells up within, and one is blessed with wisdom and salvation.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਅਪਾਹੁ ॥
āpē āp varatadā piārā āpē āp apāh .
My Beloved Lord Himself pervades and permeates all; He Himself is, all by Himself.
ਆਪੇ ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਆਪੇ ਖੰਡ ਆਪੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਇ ॥
āpē andaj jēraj sētaj utabhuj āpē khand āpē sabh lōi .
He Himself is born of the egg, from the womb, from sweat and from the earth; He Himself is the continents and all the worlds.
ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੈ ॥
āpē hī sabh āp hai piārā āpē thāp uthāpai .
He Himself, the Beloved, is Himself all-in-all; He Himself establishes and disestablishes.
ਆਪੇ ਕੰਡਾ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥
āpē kandā āp tarājī prabh āpē tōl tōlāiā .
God Himself is the balance scale, He Himself is the weigher, and He Himself weighs with the weights.
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਚੰਦੁ ਚਾਨਾਣੁ ॥
āpē srisat upāidā piārā kar sūraj chand chānān .
The Beloved Himself created the Universe; He made the light of the sun and the moon.
ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਉਮਾਹਾ ॥
āpē sēvā lāidā piārā āpē bhagat umāhā .
The Beloved Himself commits some to His service; He Himself blesses them with the joy of devotional worship.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
anik janam vishurē dukh pāiā manamukh karam karai ahankārī .
Separated from the Lord for countless lifetimes, the self-willed manmukh suffers in pain, engaged in acts of egotism.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
har siu prīt antar man bēdhiā har bin rahan n jāī .
The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord.
ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਧੀ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
achar charai tā sidh hōī sidhī tē budh pāī .
If one eats the uneatable, then he becomes a Siddha, a being of perfect spirituality; through this perfection, he obtains wisdom.
ਕਿਸ ਹਉ ਜਾਚੀ ਕਿਸ ਆਰਾਧੀ ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਸੀ ॥
kis hau jāchī kis ārādhī jā sabh kō kītā hōsī .
Who should I ask? Who should I worship? All were created by Him.
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਾਰ ॥
gur gōvind salāhīai bhāī man tan hiradai dhār .
Praise the Guru, and the Lord of the Universe, O Siblings of Destiny; enshrine Him in your mind, body and heart.
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਭਾਉ ਅਭਾਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਦੂਰਾਈ ॥
jau lau bhāu abhāu ih mānai tau lau milan dūrāī .
As long as this person believes in love and hate, it is difficult for him to meet the Lord.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਨਬੰਧੇਹੀ ॥
putr kalatr lōk grih banitā māiā sanabandhēhī .
Children, spouses, men and women in one's household, are all bound by Maya.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
gur pūrā bhētiō vadabhāgī manah bhaiā paragāsā .
I met the True Guru, by great good fortune, and my mind has been enlightened.
ਸੁਖੀਏ ਕਉ ਪੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਰੋਗੀ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਰੋਗੀ ॥
sukhīē kau pēkhai sabh sukhīā rōgī kai bhānai sabh rōgī .
To the happy person, everyone seems happy; to the sick person, everyone seems sick.
ਤਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ॥
tan santan kā dhan santan kā man santan kā kīā .
My body belongs to the Saints, my wealth belongs to the Saints, and my mind belongs to the Saints.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਤੂ ਕਰਤੇ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤੈਂ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਈ ॥
jā kai hiradai vasiā tū karatē tā kī tainh ās pujāī .
O Creator Lord, You fulfill the desires of those, within whose heart You abide.
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਕਬ ਊਚੇ ਕਬ ਨੀਚੇ ॥
sagal samagrī mōh viāpī kab ūchē kab nīchē .
The whole creation is engrossed in emotional attachment; sometimes, one is high, and at other times, low.
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਤੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
khōjat khōjat khōj bīchāriō rām nām tat sārā .
I have searched and searched and searched, and found that the Lord's Name is the most sublime reality.
ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਅਰੋਗਾ ॥
kar isanān simar prabh apanā man tan bhaē arōgā .
After taking your cleansing bath, remember your God in meditation, and your mind and body shall be free of disease.
ਏਕੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਹਾਈ ॥
ēk pitā ēkas kē ham bārik tū mērā gur hāī .
The One God is our father; we are the children of the One God. You are our Guru.
ਕੋਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਰੇ ॥
kōt brahamand kō thākur suāmī sarab jīā kā dātā rē .
God is the Lord and Master of millions of universes; He is the Giver of all beings.
