ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ ॥

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl, Du-Tukas:
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਭਾਉ ਅਭਾਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਦੂਰਾਈ ॥
jau lau bhāu abhāu ih mānai tau lau milan dūrāī .
As long as this person believes in love and hate, it is difficult for him to meet the Lord.
ਆਨ ਆਪਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਬੀਚੁ ਬਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
ān āpanā karat bīchārā tau lau bīch bikhāī .1.
As long as he discriminates between himself and others, he will distance himself from the Lord. ||1||
ਮਾਧਵੇ ਐਸੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
mādhavē aisī dēh bujhāī .
O Lord, grant me such understanding,
ਸੇਵਉ ਸਾਧ ਗਹਉ ਓਟ ਚਰਨਾ ਨਹ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sēvau sādh gahau ōt charanā nah bisarai muhat chasāī . rahāu .
that I might serve the Holy Saints, and seek the protection of their feet, and not forget them, for a moment, even an instant. ||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਚੇਤ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਤੁਮ ਐਸੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
rē man mugadh achēt chanchal chit tum aisī ridai n āī .
O foolish, thoughtless and fickle mind, such understanding did not come into your heart.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਤੂ ਰਚਿਆ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥
prānapat tiāg ān tū rachiā urajhiō sang bairāī .2.
Renouncing the Lord of Life, you have become engrossed in other things, and you are involved with your enemies. ||2||
ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਥਾਪੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
sōg n biāpai āp n thāpai sādhasangat budh pāī .
Sorrow does not afflict one who does not harbor self-conceit; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have attained this understanding.
ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾ ਬਕਨਾ ਇਉ ਜਾਨਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
sākat kā bakanā iu jānau jaisē pavan jhulāī .3.
Know that the babbling of the faithless cynic is like wind passing by. ||3||
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਅਛਾਦਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
kōt parādh ashādiō ih man kahanā kashū n jāī .
This mind is inundated by millions of sins - what can I say?
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਠਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥
jan nānak dīn saran āiō prabh sabh lēkhā rakhah uthāī .4.3.
Nanak, Your humble servant has come to Your Sanctuary, God; please, erase all his accounts. ||4||3||
