ਨਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਰਣਾ ਨਾਇ ਪਤਿ ਪੂਜ ॥
nāi tērai taranā nāi pat pūj .
Your Name carries us across; Your Name brings respect and worship.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਲੋਇ ॥
tērā nām ratan karam chānan surat tithai lōi .
Your Name is the Jewel, and Your Grace is the Light. In awareness, there is Your Light.
ਜੈ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਉਚਰੇ ਸੰਕਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
jai kāran bēd brahamai ucharē sankar shōdī māiā .
For His sake, Brahma uttered the Vedas, and Shiva renounced Maya.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਖੁ ਮਾਸਾ ॥
jā kai rūp nāhī jāt nāhī nāhī mukh māsā .
One who has no beauty, no social status, no mouth, no flesh
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
tā kā kahiā dar paravān .
What he says is approved in the Court of the Lord.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਮਨ ਮਜਨੁ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਹੇ ॥
anmrit nīr giān man majan athasath tīrath sang gahē .
One who bathes in the Ambrosial Water of spiritual wisdom takes with him the virtues of the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
gur parasādī vidiā vīchārai par par pāvai mān .
By Guru's Grace, contemplate spiritual knowledge; read it and study it, and you shall be honored.
ਆਵਤੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਜਾਵਤੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
āvat kinai n rākhiā jāvat kiu rākhiā jāi .
No one can hold anyone back from coming; how could anyone hold anyone back from going?
ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
disat bikārī bandhan bānhdhai hau tis kai bal jāī .
I am a sacrifice to that one who binds in bondage his evil and corrupted gaze.
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ॥
man māiā man dhāiā man pankhī ākās .
The mind is Maya, the mind is a chaser; the mind is a bird flying across the sky.
ਜਾਗਤੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮੂਠੋ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
jāgat bigasai mūthō andhā .
He is awake, and even happy, but he is being plundered - he is blind!
ਮਸਟਿ ਕਰਉ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਜਗਿ ਕਹੀਆ ॥
masat karau mūrakh jag kahīā .
If I remain silent, the world calls me a fool.
ਖਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਹਾਣਿ ॥
khāiā mail vadhāiā paidhai ghar kī hān .
Eating too much, one's filth only increases; wearing fancy clothes, one's home is disgraced.
ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਹਰਖ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
gīt nād harakh chaturāī .
Songs, sounds, pleasures and clever tricks;
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਰਾਂਗਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
antar dēkh sabad man māniā avar n rānhganahārā .
Deep within, I see the Shabad, the Word of God; my mind is pleased and appeased. Nothing else can touch and imbue me.
ਬਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਵਲ ਖਪਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਚਹੁ ਛਿਅ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ॥
bārah mah rāval khap jāvah chah shi mah sanniāsī .
The Yogis are divided into twelve schools, the Sannyaasees into ten.
ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
santā kī rēn sādh jan sangat har kīrat tar tārī .
The dust of the feet of the Saints, the Company of the Holy, and the Praises of the Lord carry us across to the other side.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
guramukh viralā kōī būjhai sabadē rahiā samāī .
Those who become Gurmukh and understand are very rare; God is permeating and pervading through the Word of His Shabad.
ਨਿਰਗੁਣੀਆਰੇ ਕਉ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪੇ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
niragunīārē kau bakhas lai suāmī āpē laih milāī .
I am unworthy; please forgive me and bless me, O my Lord and Master, and unite me with Yourself.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਤਿਨ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
guramukh har sālāhiā jinnā tin salāh har jātā .
The Gurmukhs praise the Lord; praising the Lord, they know Him.
ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਨ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਨ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
jō tērī saranāī har jīu tin tū rākhan jōg .
Those who enter Your Sanctuary, Dear Lord, are saved by Your Protective Power.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਨ ॥
guramukh har jīu sadā dhiāvah jab lag jī parān .
As Gurmukh, meditate on the Dear Lord forever, as long as there is the breath of life.
ਆਪੇ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਣਾਏ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
āpē bhānht banāē bah rangī sisat upāi prabh khēl kīā .
God Himself fashioned the many forms and colors; He created the Universe and staged the play.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
mērē man gur apanā sālāh .
O my mind, praise your Guru.
ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗਾਨ ॥
rasak rasak gun gāvah guramat liv unaman nām lagān .
Through the Guru's Teachings, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord with joyous love and delight; I am enraptured, lovingly attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਭ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਲ ॥
ugavai sūr guramukh har bōlah sabh rain samhālah har gāl .
With the rising of the sun, the Gurmukh speaks of the Lord. All through the night, he dwells upon the Sermon of the Lord.
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਰਸਕ ਰਸੀਕ ॥
ik khin har prabh kirapā dhārī gun gāē rasak rasīk .
The Lord God showered me with His Mercy for an instant; I sing His Glorious Praises with joyous love and delight.
ਅਗਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮ ਕਹੇ ॥
agam daiāl kripā prabh dhārī mukh har har nām ham kahē .
God, the Inaccessible and Merciful, has showered me with His Mercy; I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, with my mouth.
ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵਡਫਾ ॥
man lāgī prīt rām nām har har japiō har prabh vadaphā .
My mind is in love with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; I meditate on the Great Lord God.
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਮੁਏ ਜੀਵੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਭਾ ॥
gur satigur nām drirāiō har har ham muē jīvē har japibhā .
The Guru, the True Guru, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord within me. I was dead, but chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I have been brought back to life.
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
jap man har har nām nidhān .
O mind, meditate on the Treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥
man har kīā tan sabh sājiā .
The Lord created the mind, and fashioned the entire body.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ॥
prabh kī sēvā jan kī sōbhā .
Serving God, His humble servant is glorified.
ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
gun gāvat man hōi anand .
Singing His Glorious Praises, the mind is in ecstasy.
ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੀਏ ਅਪਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥
sagalē dūkh mitē sukh dīē apanā nām japāiā .
Eradicating all my pains, He has blessed me with peace, and inspired me to chant His Name.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਸੇ ॥
simarat nām kilabikh sabh nāsē .
Meditating in rememberance on the Naam, all my sins have been erased.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਏ ॥
kar kirapā apunē prabh kīē .
In His Mercy, God has made me His Own.
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਸੇਈ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
sē dhanavant sēī sach sāhā .
They are wealthy, and they are the true merchants,
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ॥
gur pūrā pūrī tā kī kalā .
The Guru is Perfect, and Perfect is His Power.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
satigur pūrai nām dīā .
The Perfect True Guru has bestowed the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
pārabraham prabh sughar sujān .
The Supreme Lord God is All-wise and All-knowing.
ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਜਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਅਪਨੇ ॥
kurabān jāī gur pūrē apanē .
I am a sacrifice to my Perfect Guru.
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur gur karat sadā sukh pāiā .
Chanting Guru, Guru, I have found eternal peace.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਾਉ ॥
avar n dūjā thāu .
There is no other place of rest,
ਰਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਜਾਪ ॥
ram rām rām rām jāp .
Chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਿ ਟੇਕ ॥
charan kamal saran tēk .
I have taken the Shelter and Support of the Lord's Lotus Feet.
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਉਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਬਉਰਾਇਆ ॥
dubidhā baurī man baurāiā .
The insanity of duality has driven the mind insane.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
māiā mōh sagal jag shāiā .
Emotional attachment to Maya is spread out all over the world.
ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਭੁਅੰਗਮ ਭਾਠੀ ਰੇਚਕ ਪੂਰਕ ਕੁੰਭ ਕਰੈ ॥
nivalī karam bhuangam bhāthī rēchak pūrak kunbh karai .
You may perform exercises of inner purification, and fire up the furnace of the Kundalini, inhaling and exhaling and holding the breath.
ਗੋਤਮੁ ਤਪਾ ਅਹਿਲਿਆ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਲੁਭਾਇਆ ॥
gōtam tapā ahiliā isatrī tis dēkh indr lubhāiā .
Ahalyaa was the wife of Gautam the seer. Seeing her, Indra was enticed.
