ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਹਸਣਾ ਸਉਣਾ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਹੈ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
khānā pīnā hasanā saunā visar gaiā hai maranā .
Eating, drinking, laughing and sleeping, the mortal forgets about dying.
ਕਰਉ ਬਿਨਉ ਗੁਰ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥
karau binau gur apanē prītam har var ān milāvai .
I offer prayers to my Beloved Guru, that He may unite me with my Husband Lord.
ਸਾਚੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਤ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
sāchī surat nām nahī tripatē haumai karat gavāiā .
They pretend to understand the Truth, but they are not satisfied by the Naam; they waste their lives in egotism.
ਜਿਨਿ ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਸਾ ਬਿਲਖ ਬਦਨ ਕੁਮਲਾਨੀ ॥
jin dhan pir kā sād n jāniā sā bilakh badan kumalānī .
The soul-bride who has not known delight with her Husband Lord, shall weep and wail with a wretched face.
ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਪਰ ਧਨੁ ਪਰ ਲੋਭਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
par dārā par dhan par lōbhā haumai bikhai bikār .
Others' wives, others' wealth, greed, egotism, corruption and poison;
ਪਵਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
pavanai pānī jānai jāt .
Know that the creation was formed through air and water;
ਦੁਖੁ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਇਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭੂਖ ॥
dukh vēshōrā ik dukh bhūkh .
The pain of separation - this is the hungry pain I feel.
ਦੁਖ ਮਹੁਰਾ ਮਾਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
dukh mahurā māran har nām .
Pain is the poison. The Lord's Name is the antidote.
ਬਾਗੇ ਕਾਪੜ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੈਣ ॥
bāgē kāpar bōlai bain .
You wear white clothes, and speak sweet words.
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
nirankār ākār hai āpē āpē bharam bhulāē .
The Formless Lord is formed by Himself. He Himself deludes in doubt.
ਜਿਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥
jinī hukam pashāniā sē mēlē haumai sabad jalāi .
Those who realize the Hukam of the Lord's Command are united with Him; through the Word of His Shabad, their egotism is burnt away.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
guramukh kōī viralā būjhai jis nō nadar karēi .
Rare is that person who, as Gurmukh, understands; the Lord has bestowed His Glance of Grace.
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
gur sālāhī sadā sukhadātā prabh nārāin sōī .
I praise the Guru, the Giver of peace, forever. He truly is the Lord God.
ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਭਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
gan gandharab nāmē sabh udharē gur kā sabad vīchār .
All the heavenly heralds and celestial singers are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵੈ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਸੁ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
satigur tē pāvai ghar dar mahal s thān .
Through the True Guru, the mortal obtains the special place, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence in his own home.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
jīu pind prān sabh tis kē ghat ghat rahiā samāī .
Soul, body and breath of life are all His; He is permeating and pervading each and every heart.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
mērā prabh sāchā dūkh nivāran sabadē pāiā jāī .
My True Lord God, the Eradicator of suffering, is found through the Word of the Shabad.
ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਲਦਿਆ ਅਜਗਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
haumai bikh man mōhiā ladiā ajagar bhārī .
The mortal is enticed by the poison of corruption, burdened with such a heavy load.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
ih man girahī k ih man udāsī .
Is this mind a householder, or is this mind a detached renunciate?
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
bhram bhram jōn manamukh bharamāī .
The self-willed manmukhs wander lost in reincarnation, confused and deluded by doubt.
ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
jīvat mukat guramatī lāgē .
Those who are attached to the Guru's Teachings, are Jivan-mukta, liberated while yet alive.
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ॥
rasanā nām sabh kōī kahai .
Everyone speaks the Name of the Lord with the tongue.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ॥
anadin har har dhiāiō hiradai mat guramat dūkh visārī .
Night and day, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, within my heart; through the Guru's Teachings, my pain is forgotten.
ਗੰਗਾ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਗੋਦਾਵਰੀ ਸਰਸੁਤੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਤਾਈ ॥
gangā jamunā gōdāvarī sarasutī tē karah udam dhūr sādhū kī tāī .
The Ganges, the Jamunaa, the Godaavari and the Saraswati - these rivers strive for the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
tis jan kau har mīth lagānā jis har har kripā karai .
The Lord seems sweet to that humble being who is blessed by the Grace of the Lord.
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਤਿਤਨੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਲਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
jitanē jī jant prabh kīnē titanē sir kār likhāvai .
All the beings and creatures which God has created - on their foreheds, He has written their destiny.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਬਸਿਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਭਲ ਭਾਂਤਿ ॥
jinh kai hīarai basiō mērā satigur tē sant bhalē bhal bhānht .
Those whose hearts are filled with my True Guru - those Saints are good and noble in every way.
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥
agam agōchar nām har ūtam har kirapā tē jap laiā .
The Name of the Lord is inaccessible, unfathomable, exalted and sublime. It is chanted by the Lord's Grace.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
gur parasādī anmrit nahī pīā trisanā bhūkh n jāī .
Those who do not drink in the Ambrosial Nectar by Guru's Grace - their thirst and hunger are not relieved.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਬੋਲਤ ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੋਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jan bōlat srīrām nāmā mil sādhasangat har tōr .1. rahāu .
The humble servant of the Lord chants the Name of the Supreme Lord; he joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Lord's Holy. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਖੋਜਤੇ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
rām rām bōl bōl khōjatē badabhāgī .
They speak and chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam; the very fortunate ones seek Him.
ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਸੋਚਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
kiā tū sōchah kiā tū chitavah kiā tūn karah upāē .
What are you so worried about? What are you thinking? What have you tried?
ਖੀਰ ਅਧਾਰਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਜਬ ਹੋਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਖੀਰੈ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
khīr adhār bārik jab hōtā bin khīrai rahan n jāī .
When the baby's only food is milk, it cannot survive without its milk.
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਧੀ ਜੁਰਿ ਆਹਰੁ ਕਰਿਆ ਤਜਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥
sagal bidhī jur āhar kariā tajiō sagal andēsā .
I tried everything, and gathered all devices together; I have discarded all my anxieties.
ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਕੀਟ ਕੀਟ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਪਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਖ ਜਠਰ ਕਉ ਭਰਤੇ ॥
rāj tē kīt kīt tē surapat kar dōkh jathar kau bharatē .
From a king to a worm, and from a worm to the lord of gods, they engage in evil to fill their bellies.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਓਇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
prabh mērē ōi bairāgī tiāgī .
My God is detached and free of desire.
ਮਾਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
māī mōh prītam dēh milāī .
O mother, please lead me to union with my Beloved.
ਬਰਸੁ ਮੇਘ ਜੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਲਾਉ ॥
baras mēgh jī til bilam n lāu .
Rain down, O cloud; do not delay.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
prītam sāchā nām dhiāi .
Meditate on the True Name of your Beloved.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
prabh mērē prītam prān piārē .
My Beloved God is the Lover of my breath of life.
ਅਬ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
ab apanē prītam siu ban āī .
Now, I have become just like my Beloved.
ਘਨਿਹਰ ਬਰਸਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
ghanihar baras sagal jag shāiā .
The clouds have rained down all over the world.
ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵੇ ਓਇ ਜੀਵਨ ॥
bishurat kiu jīvē ōi jīvan .
Separated from the Lord, how can any living being live?
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਨਿ ਕਉਨ ਕਉਨ ਨ ਤਾਰੇ ॥
har kai bhajan kaun kaun n tārē .
Vibrating and meditating on the Lord, who has not been carried across?
ਆਜੁ ਮੈ ਬੈਸਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਟ ॥
āj mai baisiō har hāt .
Today, I am seated in the Lord's store.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਹਿਰਾਨੋ ॥
bah bidh māiā mōh hirānō .
In so many ways, attachment to Maya leads to ruin.
ਦੁਸਟ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
dusat muē bikh khāī rī māī .
The cruel and evil ones died after taking poison, O mother.
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
man mērē har kē charan ravījai .
O my mind, dwell on the Feet of the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਛਲੁ ਬਿਰਦਾਇਓ ॥
prabh kō bhagat bashal biradāiō .
It is God's Nature to love His devotees.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਸੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh dīsai braham pasār .
The Gurmukh sees God pervading everywhere.
