ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥਾ ॥
mērai hīarai ratan nām har basiā gur hāth dhariō mērai māthā .
The Jewel of the Lord's Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead.
ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਹਕ ਮੀਕਾ ਕਾਖਾ ॥
hīrā lāl amōlak hai bhārī bin gāhak mīkā kākhā .
A jewel or a diamond may be very valuable and heavy, but without a purchaser, it is worth only straw.
ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕਛੂਅ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
ham bārik kashū n jānah gat mit tērē mūrakh mugadh iānā .
I am Your child; I know nothing about Your state and extent; I am foolish, idiotic and ignorant.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਵਡ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਫਲ ਲਾਗਿਬਾ ॥
satigur sājan purakh vad pāiā har rasak rasak phal lāgibā .
I have found the True Guru, my Friend, the Greatest Being. Love and affection for the Lord has blossomed forth.
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬਸਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਤ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਂਝਾ ॥
jin har hiradai nām n basiō tin māt kījai har bānhjhā .
The Lord's Name does not abide within their hearts - their mothers should have been sterile.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਾਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਚਲਤੌ ਭਇਓ ਅਰੂੜਾ ॥
satasangat sādh pāī vadabhāgī man chalatau bhaiō arūrā .
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I found the Holy, by great good fortune; my restless mind has been quieted.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
har har simarah agam apārā .
Remember in meditation the Lord, Har, Har, the unfathomable, infinite Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਹਾ ॥
har har har har nām japāhā .
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har.
ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਲੁ ਸਲਾਹਾ ॥
ras ras rām rasāl salāhā .
With love and energetic affection, praise the Lord, the storehouse of Nectar.
ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਾਹਾ ॥
āpē jōgī jugat jugāhā .
He Himself is the Yogi, and the way throughout the ages.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਰਾਹਾ ॥
mil satasangat sang gurāhā .
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and associating with the Guru,
ਕੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਈਹਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
kōī jānai kavan īhā jag mīt .
Does anyone know, who is our friend in this world?
ਦੇਹੁ ਸੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਕਹੀਅਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਕਹੀਅਉ ॥
dēh sandēsarō kahīau pri kahīau .
Give me a message from my Beloved - tell me, tell me!
ਧੀਰਉ ਸੁਨਿ ਧੀਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhīrau sun dhīrau prabh kau .1. rahāu .
I am calmed, calmed and soothed, hearing of God. ||1||Pause||
ਲੋੜੀਦੜਾ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
lōrīdarā sājan mērā .
I seek my Friend the Lord.
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗ੍ਯਿ ॥
ab mai sukh pāiō gur āgy .
Now, I have found peace, bowing before the Guru.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਾ ॥
man mah satigur dhiān dharā .
Within my mind, I cherish and meditate on the True Guru.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jā kau bhaē gōvind sahāī .
One who has the Lord of the Universe as his help and support
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨ ਰੂਪ ॥
gōbind jīvan prān dhan rūp .
The Lord of the Universe is my existence, my breath of life, wealth and beauty.
ਕੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਜੋਰਿ ॥
kōī jan har siu dēvai jōr .
If only someone would unite me with the Lord!
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਬਰਸਤ ਮੇਂਹ ॥
chātrik chitavat barasat mēnhh .
The rainbird longs for the rain to fall.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥
man tan bas rahē mērē prān .
The Lord, my very breath of life, abides in my mind and body.
ਆਏ ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
āē anik janam bhram saranī .
After wandering through so many incarnations, I have come to Your Sanctuary.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
har jan simarah hiradai rām .
O humble servants of the Lord, remember the Lord in meditation within your heart.
ਭੂਲਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ॥
bhūliō man māiā urajhāiō .
My mind is deluded, entangled in Maya.
ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
har jū rākh lēh pat mērī .
O Dear Lord, please, save my honor!
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਗਹੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
man rē sāchā gahō bichārā .
O mind, embrace true contemplation.
ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨੀਤ ॥
darasan piāsī dinas rāt chitavau anadin nīt .
I am thirsty for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, day and night; I yearn for Him constantly, night and day.
ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਕਥੁ ॥
ūchā agam apār prabh kathan n jāi akath .
God is lofty, unapproachable and infinite. He is indescribable - He cannot be described.
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਅਸੰਖ ਗੁਣ ਊਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
nirat n pavai asankh gun ūchā prabh kā nāu .
Countless are His virtues; they cannot be enumerated. God's Name is lofty and exalted.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
rē man tā kau dhiāīai sabh bidh jā kai hāth .
O mind, meditate on the One, who holds everything in His hands.
ਚਿਤਿ ਜਿ ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
chit j chitaviā sō mai pāiā .
Whatever I wish for, that I receive.
ਪਾਧਾਣੂ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਅਟਿਆ ॥
pādhānū sansār gārab atiā .
The world is like a temporary way-station, but it is filled with pride.
ਆਦਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥
ād pūran madh pūran ant pūran paramēsurah .
In the beginning, He was pervading; in the middle, He is pervading; in the end, He will be pervading. He is the Transcendent Lord.
ਰਚੰਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਰਚਨਾ ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਅਸਥਾਪਨੰ ॥
rachant jī rachanā māt garabh asathāpanan .
Creating the soul, the Lord places this creation in the womb of the mother.
ਮਨ ਇਛਾ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਆਸਾ ਪੂਰਨਹ ॥
man ishā dān karanan sarabatr āsā pūranah .
He grants our hearts' desires, and fulfills all our hopes.
ਕੁਟੰਬ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਣੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਨੇਕ ਉਦਮਹ ॥
kutanb jatan karanan māiā anēk udamah .
For his family, he works very hard; for the sake of Maya, he makes countless efforts.
ਕੋਟਿ ਦਾਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੰ ਅਨਿਕ ਸੋਧਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਹ ॥
kōt dān isanānan anik sōdhan pavitratah .
The benefits of millions of charitable donations and cleansing baths, and countless ceremonies of purification and piety,
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਪਾਰੰ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਸੁਆਦੰ ਰਸਹ ॥
grih rachanā apāran man bilās suādan rasah .
They are involved in their beautiful houses, and the pleasures of the mind's desires.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਰਹੰ ਖੋਜੰਤ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਹ ॥
charan kamal birahan khōjant bairāgī dah disah .
One who loves the Lord's lotus feet searches for Him in the ten directions.
ਅਨਿਕ ਲੀਲਾ ਰਾਜ ਰਸ ਰੂਪੰ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਚਮਰ ਤਖਤ ਆਸਨੰ ॥
anik līlā rāj ras rūpan shatr chamar takhat āsanan .
The various sorts of pleasures, powers, joys, beauty, canopies, cooling fans and thrones to sit on
ਬਸੰਤਿ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਲੋਕਹ ਜਿਤਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਣਹ ॥
basant svarag lōkah jitatē prithavī nav khandanah .
They may live in heavenly realms, and conquer the nine regions of the world,
ਰਾਜ ਕਪਟੰ ਰੂਪ ਕਪਟੰ ਧਨ ਕਪਟੰ ਕੁਲ ਗਰਬਤਹ ॥
rāj kapatan rūp kapatan dhan kapatan kul garabatah .
Power is fraudulent, beauty is fraudulent, and wealth is fraudulent, as is pride of ancestry.
ਨਚ ਰਾਜ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਸਟੰ ਨਚ ਭੋਗ ਰਸ ਮਿਸਟੰ ਨਚ ਮਿਸਟੰ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
nach rāj sukh misatan nach bhōg ras misatan nach misatan sukh māiā .
Princely pleasures are not sweet; sensual enjoyments are not sweet; the pleasures of Maya are not sweet.
ਤਿਅਕਤ ਜਲੰ ਨਹ ਜੀਵ ਮੀਨੰ ਨਹ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਮੇਘ ਮੰਡਲਹ ॥
tiakat jalan nah jīv mīnan nah tiāg chātrik mēgh mandalah .
Leaving the water, the fish cannot live; the rainbird cannot live without the raindrops from the clouds.
ਚਿਤਵੰਤਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲੰ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਅਰਾਧਨਹ ॥
chitavant charan kamalan sās sās arādhanah .
They contemplate the Lord's lotus feet; they worship and adore Him with each and every breath.
ਰਸਨਾ ਉਚਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਮੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੰ ਸੁਨੰਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਹ ॥
rasanā ucharant nāman sravanan sunant sabad anmritah .
With my tongue, I chant the Lord's Name; with my ears, I listen to the Ambrosial Word of His Shabad.
ਭਾਵੀ ਉਦੋਤ ਕਰਣੰ ਹਰਿ ਰਮਣੰ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਪੂਰਨਹ ॥
bhāvī udōt karanan har ramanan sanjōg pūranah .
One's destiny is activated, when one chants the Lord's Name, through perfect good fortune.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਸਰਬ ਦੋਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹ ॥
patit punīt gōbindah sarab dōkh nivāranah .
The Lord of the Universe is the Purifier of sinners; He is the Dispeller of all distress.
ਸੰਤ ਉਧਰਣ ਦਇਆਲੰ ਆਸਰੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
sant udharan daiālan āsaran gōpāl kīratanah .
The Merciful Lord is the Savior of the Saints; their only support is to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
