ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਪੁਰਖਾ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
har kē jan satigur satapurakhā binau karau gur pās .
O humble servant of the Lord, O True Guru, O True Primal Being: I offer my humble prayer to You, O Guru.
ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
sō purakh niranjan har purakh niranjan har agamā agam apārā .
That Primal Being is Immaculate and Pure. The Lord, the Primal Being, is Immaculate and Pure. The Lord is Inaccessible, Unreachable and Unrivalled.
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ਮੈਡਾ ਸਾਂਈ ॥
tūn karatā sachiār maidā sānhī .
You are the True Creator, my Lord and Master.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
kām karōdh nagar bah bhariā mil sādhū khandal khandā hē .
The body-village is filled to overflowing with anger and sexual desire; these were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.
ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
mai man tan birah at agalā kiu prītam milai ghar āi .
Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; how can my Beloved come to meet me in my home?
ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸੁ ॥
nām milai man tripatīai bin nāmai dhrig jīvās .
Receiving the Naam, the mind is satisfied; without the Naam, life is cursed.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਥਰਾ ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
gun gāvā gun vitharā gun bōlī mērī māi .
I sing His Glories, I describe His Glories, I speak of His Glories, O my mother.
ਹਉ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਸਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਖੜੀ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਸੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
hau panth dasāī nit kharī kōī prabh dasē tin jāu .
I stand by the wayside and ask the Way. If only someone would show me the Way to God-I would go with him.
ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਲਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
ras anmrit nām ras at bhalā kit bidh milai ras khāi .
The Essence of the Ambrosial Naam is the most sublime essence; how can I get to taste this essence?
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਚੜੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਥਵੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਜਾਇ ॥
dinas charai phir āthavai rain sabāī jāi .
The day dawns, and then it ends, and the night passes away.
ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਉਦਰ ਮੰਝਾਰਿ ॥
pahilai paharai rain kai vanajāriā mitrā har pāiā udar manjhār .
In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord places you in the womb.
ਮੁੰਧ ਇਆਣੀ ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਿਖੈ ॥
mundh iānī pēīarai kiu kar har darasan pikhai .
How can the ignorant soul-bride obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, while she is in this world of her father's home?
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
har har utam nām hai jin siriā sabh kōi jīu .
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is Excellent and Sublime. He created everyone.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
har har nām mai har man bhāiā .
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.
ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥
madhusūdan mērē man tan prānā .
The Lord is my mind, body and breath of life.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਣੀਐ ॥
har gun parīai har gun gunīai .
Read of the Lord's Glories and reflect upon the Lord's Glories.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
har jan sant milah mērē bhāī .
O servants of the Lord, O Saints, O my Siblings of Destiny, let us join together!
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
har gur giān har ras har pāiā .
Through the Guru, I have obtained the Lord's spiritual wisdom. I have obtained the Sublime Essence of the Lord.
ਹਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
hau gun gōvind har nām dhiāī .
I meditate on the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and the Name of the Lord.
ਆਵਹੁ ਭੈਣੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੀਆ ॥
āvah bhainē tusī milah piārīā .
Come, dear sisters-let us join together.
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਆਪੇ ॥
ād purakh aparanpar āpē .
The Primal Being is Himself remote and beyond.
ਜਿਸ ਦੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਅਲਾਏ ॥
jis dai andar sach hai sō sachā nām mukh sach alāē .
Those, within whom the Truth dwells, obtain the True Name; they speak only the Truth.
ਪਰਹਰਿ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਜਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥
parahar kām krōdh jhūth nindā taj māiā ahankār chukāvai .
Renounce sexual desire, anger, falsehood and slander; forsake Maya and eliminate egotistical pride.
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੜਿਆ ॥
pandit sāsat simrit pariā .
The Pandit - the religious scholar - recites the Shaastras and the Simritees;
ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ॥
niragun kathā kathā hai har kī .
The Speech of the Lord is the most sublime speech, free of any attributes.
ਮਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਤੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
mātā prīt karē put khāi .
The mother loves to see her son eat.
ਭੀਖਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭੀਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਇ ॥
bhīkhak prīt bhīkh prabh pāi .
The beggar loves to receive charity from the wealthy landlord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਬਣੀ ॥
satigur sēvā saphal hai banī .
Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding;
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਡੰਡਾਧਾਰੀ ॥
har āpē jōgī dandādhārī .
The Lord Himself is the Yogi, who wields the staff of authority.
ਸਾਹੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਧਣੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਹਮ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
sāh hamārā tūn dhanī jaisī tūn rās dēh taisī ham lēh .
O Master, You are my Banker. I receive only that capital which You give me.
ਜਿਉ ਜਨਨੀ ਗਰਭੁ ਪਾਲਤੀ ਸੁਤ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਆਸਾ ॥
jiu jananī garabh pālatī sut kī kar āsā .
The mother nourishes the fetus in the womb, hoping for a son,
ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਇ ॥
kirasānī kirasān karē lōchai jīu lāi .
The farmers love to work their farms;
ਨਿਤ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
nit dinas rāt lālach karē bharamai bharamāiā .
Continuously, day and night, they are gripped by greed and deluded by doubt.
ਹਮਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਨਿਤ ਕਿਉ ਦੇਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
hamarai man chit har ās nit kiu dēkhā har daras tumārā .
Within my conscious mind is the constant longing for the Lord. How can I behold the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, Lord?
ਕੰਚਨ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਲੁਭਤੁ ਹੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
kanchan nārī mah jīu lubhat hai mōh mīthā māiā .
The soul of the man is lured by gold and women; emotional attachment to Maya is so sweet to him.
ਜਿਉ ਜਨਨੀ ਸੁਤੁ ਜਣਿ ਪਾਲਤੀ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥
jiu jananī sut jan pālatī rākhai nadar majhār .
Just as the mother, having given birth to a son, feeds him and keeps him in her vision
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
jis miliai man hōi anand sō satigur kahīai .
Meeting Him, the mind is filled with bliss. He is called the True Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੀ ॥
har daiāl daiā prabh kīnī mērai man tan mukh har bōlī .
The Merciful Lord God showered me with His Mercy; with mind and body and mouth, I chant the Lord's Name.
ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
jagajīvan aparanpar suāmī jagadīsur purakh bidhātē .
Life of the World, Infinite Lord and Master, Master of the Universe, All-powerful Architect of Destiny.
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਾਚੇ ॥
karah kripā jagajīvan dātē mērā man har sētī rāchē .
Show Mercy to me, O Life of the World, O Great Giver, so that my mind may merge with the Lord.
ਤੁਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਰਬ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੇ ॥
tum daiāl sarab dukh bhanjan ik binau sunah dē kānē .
You are Merciful, the Destroyer of all pain. Please give me Your Ear and listen to my prayer.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਹੁ ਨਸੀਐ ॥
mērē man sō prabh sadā nāl hai suāmī kah kithai har pah nasīai .
O my mind, God is always with you; He is your Lord and Master. Tell me, where could you run to get away from the Lord?
ਹਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
hamarē prān vasagat prabh tumarai mērā jīu pind sabh tērī .
My breath of life is in Your Power, God; my soul and body are totally Yours.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਦਹ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਹਾਢੇ ॥
ih manūā khin n tikai bah rangī dah dah dis chal chal hādhē .
This mind does not hold still, even for an instant. Distracted by all sorts of distractions, it wanders around aimlessly in the ten directions.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

is gar mah har rām rāi hai kish sād n pāvai dhīthā .
Within this body-fortress is the Lord, the Sovereign Lord King, but the stubborn ones do not find the taste.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹਮ ਬੇਚਿਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਆਗੇ ॥
har har arath sarīr ham bēchiā pūrē gur kai āgē .
For the sake of the Lord, Har, Har, I have sold my body to the Perfect Guru.
ਹਮ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
ham ahankārī ahankār agiān mat gur miliai āp gavāiā .
I am egotistical and conceited, and my intellect is ignorant. Meeting the Guru, my selfishness and conceit have been abolished.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਾਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
guramat bājai sabad anāhad guramat manūā gāvai .
Through the Guru's Teachings, the unstruck music resounds; through the Guru's Teachings, the mind sings.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿੰਦੂ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥
guramukh jindū jap nām karanmā .
O my soul, as Gurmukh, do this deed: chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
