ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Gauree Bairaagan, Fourth Mehl:
ਕੰਚਨ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਲੁਭਤੁ ਹੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
kanchan nārī mah jīu lubhat hai mōh mīthā māiā .
The soul of the man is lured by gold and women; emotional attachment to Maya is so sweet to him.
ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਘੋੜੇ ਖੁਸੀ ਮਨੁ ਅਨ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
ghar mandar ghōrē khusī man an ras lāiā .
The mind has become attached to the pleasures of houses, palaces, horses and other enjoyments.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
har prabh chit n āvaī kiu shūtā mērē har rāiā .1.
The Lord God does not even enter his thoughts; how can he be saved, O my Lord King? ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਇਹ ਨੀਚ ਕਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
mērē rām ih nīch karam har mērē .
O my Lord, these are my lowly actions, O my Lord.
ਗੁਣਵੰਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਸਭਿ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gunavantā har har daiāl kar kirapā bakhas avagan sabh mērē .1. rahāu .
O Lord, Har, Har, Treasure of Virtue, Merciful Lord: please bless me with Your Grace and forgive me for all my mistakes. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਛੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਢੰਗੁ ਨ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
kish rūp nahī kish jāt nāhī kish dhang n mērā .
I have no beauty, no social status, no manners.
ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਲੈ ਬੋਲਹ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਨ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
kiā muh lai bōlah gun bihūn nām japiā n tērā .
With what face am I to speak? I have no virtue at all; I have not chanted Your Name.
ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਉਬਰੇ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
ham pāpī sang gur ubarē punn satigur kērā .2.
I am a sinner, saved only by the Company of the Guru. This is the generous blessing of the True Guru. ||2||
ਸਭੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਨਕੁ ਦੀਆ ਵਰਤਣ ਕਉ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
sabh jīu pind mukh nak dīā varatan kau pānī .
He gave all beings souls, bodies, mouths, noses and water to drink.
ਅੰਨੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਕਪੜੁ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਦੀਆ ਰਸ ਅਨਿ ਭੋਗਾਣੀ ॥
ann khānā kapar painan dīā ras an bhōgānī .
He gave them corn to eat, clothes to wear, and other pleasures to enjoy.
ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਏ ਸੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਪਸੂ ਹਉ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
jin dīē s chit n āvaī pasū hau kar jānī .3.
But they do not remember the One who gave them all this. The animals think that they made themselves! ||3||
ਸਭੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
sabh kītā tērā varatadā tūn antarajāmī .
You made them all; You are all-pervading. You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਹਮ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਤੁਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
ham jant vichārē kiā karah sabh khēl tum suāmī .
What can these wretched creatures do? This whole drama is Yours, O Lord and Master.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਾਟਿ ਵਿਹਾਝਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਲਮ ਗੁਲਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੨॥੫੦॥
jan nānak hāt vihājhiā har gulam gulāmī .4.6.12.50.
Servant Nanak was purchased in the slave-market. He is the slave of the Lord's slaves. ||4||6||12||50||
