ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
sahas siānap kar rahē man kōrai rang n hōi .
Thousands of clever mental tricks have been tried, but still, the raw and undisciplined mind does not absorb the Color of the Lord's Love.
ਕੂੜਿ ਕਪਟਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੈ ਖਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
kūr kapat kinai n pāiō jō bījai khāvai sōi .3.
By falsehood and deception, none have found Him. Whatever you plant, you shall eat. ||3||
ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
sabhanā tērī ās prabh sabh jī tērē tūn rās .
O God, You are the Hope of all. All beings are Yours; You are the Wealth of all.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
prabh tudhah khālī kō nahī dar guramukhā nō sābās .
O God, none return from You empty-handed; at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are praised and acclaimed.
ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਕਢਿ ਲੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੧॥੬੫॥
bikh bhaujal dubadē kadh lai jan nānak kī aradās .4.1.65.
In the terrifying world-ocean of poison, people are drowning-please lift them up and save them! This is servant Nanak's humble prayer. ||4||1||65||

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
mai man tan birah at agalā kiu prītam milai ghar āi .
Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; how can my Beloved come to meet me in my home?
ਜਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
jā dēkhā prabh āpanā prabh dēkhiai dukh jāi .
When I see my God, seeing God Himself, my pain is taken away.
ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
jāi pushā tin sajanā prabh kit bidh milai milāi .1.
I go and ask my friends, "How can I meet and merge with God?"||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mērē satigurā mai tujh bin avar n kōi .
O my True Guru, without You I have no other at all.
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham mūrakh mugadh saranāgatī kar kirapā mēlē har sōi .1. rahāu .
I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be Merciful and unite me with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
satigur dātā har nām kā prabh āp milāvai sōi .
The True Guru is the Giver of the Name of the Lord. God Himself causes us to meet Him.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
satigur har prabh bujhiā gur jēvad avar n kōi .
The True Guru understands the Lord God. There is no other as Great as the Guru.
ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
hau gur saranāī dhah pavā kar daiā mēlē prabh sōi .2.
I have come and collapsed in the Guru's Sanctuary. In His Kindness, He has united me with God. ||2||
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
manahath kinai n pāiā kar upāv thakē sabh kōi .
No one has found Him by stubborn-mindedness. All have grown weary of the effort.
