ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis rūp n rēkhiā ghat ghat dēkhiā guramukh alakh lakhāvaniā .1. rahāu .
He has no form or shape; He is seen within each and every heart. The Gurmukh comes to know the unknowable. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
tū daiāl kirapāl prabh sōī .
You are God, Kind and Merciful.
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
tudh bin dūjā avar n kōī .
Without You, there is no other at all.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਸਾਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gur parasād karē nām dēvai nāmē nām samāvaniā .2.
When the Guru showers His Grace upon us, He blesses us with the Naam; through the Naam, we merge in the Naam. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
tūn āpē sachā sirajanahārā .
You Yourself are the True Creator Lord.
ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
bhagatī bharē tērē bhandārā .
Your treasures are overflowing with devotional worship.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
guramukh nām milai man bhījai sahaj samādh lagāvaniā .3.
The Gurmukhs obtain the Naam. Their minds are enraptured, and they easily and intuitively enter into Samaadhi. ||3||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
anadin gun gāvā prabh tērē .
Night and day, I sing Your Glorious Praises, God.
ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
tudh sālāhī prītam mērē .
I praise You, O my Beloved.
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
tudh bin avar n kōī jāchā gur parasādī tūn pāvaniā .4.
Without You, there is no other for me to seek out. It is only by Guru's Grace that You are found. ||4||
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
agam agōchar mit nahī pāī .
The limits of the Inaccessible and Incomprehensible Lord cannot be found.
ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
apanī kripā karah tūn laih milāī .
Bestowing Your Mercy, You merge us into Yourself.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
pūrē gur kai sabad dhiāīai sabad sēv sukh pāvaniā .5.
Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, we meditate on the Lord. Serving the Shabad, peace is found. ||5||
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
rasanā gunavantī gun gāvai .
Praiseworthy is the tongue which sings the Lord's Glorious Praises.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
nām salāhē sachē bhāvai .
Praising the Naam, one becomes pleasing to the True One.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਚੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
guramukh sadā rahai rang rātī mil sachē sōbhā pāvaniā .6.
The Gurmukh remains forever imbued with the Lord's Love. Meeting the True Lord, glory is obtained. ||6||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
manamukh karam karē ahankārī .
The self-willed manmukhs do their deeds in ego.
ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਭ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
jūai janam sabh bājī hārī .
They lose their whole lives in the gamble.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
antar lōbh mahā gubārā phir phir āvan jāvaniā .7.
Within is the terrible darkness of greed, and so they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
āpē karatā dē vadiāī . jin kau āp likhat dhur pāī .
The Creator Himself bestows Glory on those whom He Himself has so pre-destined.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੩੪॥
nānak nām milai bhau bhanjan gur sabadī sukh pāvaniā .8.1.34.
O Nanak, they receive the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Destroyer of fear; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they find peace. ||8||1||34||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
mājh mahalā 4 .
Maajh, Fourth Mehl:
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਆਪੇ ॥
ād purakh aparanpar āpē .
The Primal Being is Himself remote and beyond.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥
āpē thāpē thāp uthāpē .
He Himself establishes, and having established, He disestablishes.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sabh mah varatai ēkō sōī guramukh sōbhā pāvaniā .1.
The One Lord is pervading in all; those who become Gurmukh are honored. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī nirankārī nām dhiāvaniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord.
