ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
kām karōdh nagar bah bhariā mil sādhū khandal khandā hē .
The body-village is filled to overflowing with anger and sexual desire; these were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.
ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ॥
karau bēnantī sunah mērē mītā sant tahal kī bēlā .
Listen, my friends, I beg of you: now is the time to serve the Saints!
ਜੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
jai ghar kīrat ākhīai karatē kā hōi bīchārō .
In that house where the Praises of the Creator are chanted
ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੀ ॥
har daiāl daiā prabh kīnī mērai man tan mukh har bōlī .
The Merciful Lord God showered me with His Mercy; with mind and body and mouth, I chant the Lord's Name.
ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
jagajīvan aparanpar suāmī jagadīsur purakh bidhātē .
Life of the World, Infinite Lord and Master, Master of the Universe, All-powerful Architect of Destiny.
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਾਚੇ ॥
karah kripā jagajīvan dātē mērā man har sētī rāchē .
Show Mercy to me, O Life of the World, O Great Giver, so that my mind may merge with the Lord.
ਤੁਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਰਬ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੇ ॥
tum daiāl sarab dukh bhanjan ik binau sunah dē kānē .
You are Merciful, the Destroyer of all pain. Please give me Your Ear and listen to my prayer.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਹੁ ਨਸੀਐ ॥
mērē man sō prabh sadā nāl hai suāmī kah kithai har pah nasīai .
O my mind, God is always with you; He is your Lord and Master. Tell me, where could you run to get away from the Lord?
ਹਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
hamarē prān vasagat prabh tumarai mērā jīu pind sabh tērī .
My breath of life is in Your Power, God; my soul and body are totally Yours.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਦਹ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਹਾਢੇ ॥
ih manūā khin n tikai bah rangī dah dah dis chal chal hādhē .
This mind does not hold still, even for an instant. Distracted by all sorts of distractions, it wanders around aimlessly in the ten directions.

is gar mah har rām rāi hai kish sād n pāvai dhīthā .
Within this body-fortress is the Lord, the Sovereign Lord King, but the stubborn ones do not find the taste.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹਮ ਬੇਚਿਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਆਗੇ ॥
har har arath sarīr ham bēchiā pūrē gur kai āgē .
For the sake of the Lord, Har, Har, I have sold my body to the Perfect Guru.
ਹਮ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
ham ahankārī ahankār agiān mat gur miliai āp gavāiā .
I am egotistical and conceited, and my intellect is ignorant. Meeting the Guru, my selfishness and conceit have been abolished.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਾਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
guramat bājai sabad anāhad guramat manūā gāvai .
Through the Guru's Teachings, the unstruck music resounds; through the Guru's Teachings, the mind sings.
ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kavan gun prānapat milau mērī māī .1. rahāu .
By what virtues can I meet the Lord of life, O my mother? ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥
kin bidh milai gusāī mērē rām rāi .
How may I meet my Master, the King, the Lord of the Universe?
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
har har kabahū n manah bisārē .
Never forget the Lord, Har, Har, from your mind.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ॥
mērē man saran prabhū sukh pāē .
O my mind, in the Sanctuary of God, peace is found.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਦ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
mērē man gur gur gur sad karīai .
O my mind, dwell always upon the Guru, Guru, Guru.
ਕਰਹਲੇ ਮਨ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਇ ॥
karahalē man paradēsīā kiu milīai har māi .
O my wandering mind, you are like a camel - how will you meet the Lord, your Mother?
ਮੁੰਧ ਰੈਣਿ ਦੁਹੇਲੜੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
mundh rain duhēlarīā jīu nīd n āvai .
For the bride, the night is painful; sleep does not come.
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
sā dhan binau karē jīu har kē gun sārē .
The soul-bride offers her prayers to her Dear Lord; she dwells upon His Glorious Virtues.
ਜਹ ਕਛੁ ਅਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jah kash ahā tahā kish nāhī panch tat tah nāhī .
Where something existed, now there is nothing. The five elements are no longer there.
ਸੁਰਗ ਬਾਸੁ ਨ ਬਾਛੀਐ ਡਰੀਐ ਨ ਨਰਕਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
surag bās n bāshīai darīai n narak nivās .
Don't wish for a home in heaven, and don't be afraid to live in hell.
ਬਿਪਲ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੈ ਪਹਿਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਬਨ ਮਧੇ ਬਾਸਾ ॥
bipal basatr kētē hai pahirē kiā ban madhē bāsā .
Many people wear various robes, but what is the use of living in the forest?
ਬਾਵਨ ਅਛਰ ਲੋਕ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
bāvan ashar lōk trai sabh kash in hī māh .
Through these fifty-two letters, the three worlds and all things are described.
ਕੂਪੁ ਭਰਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਦਾਦਿਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਬਿਦੇਸੁ ਨ ਬੂਝ ॥

The frog in the deep well knows nothing of its own country or other lands;
