ਝਝਾ ਉਰਝਿ ਸੁਰਝਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
jhajhā urajh surajh nahī jānā .
JHAJHA: You are entangled in the world, and you do not know how to get untangled.
ਰਹਿਓ ਝਝਕਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
rahiō jhajhak nāhī paravānā .
You hold back in fear, and are not approved by the Lord.
ਕਤ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਅਉਰਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥
kat jhakh jhakh auran samajhāvā .
Why do you talk such nonsense, trying to convince others?
ਬੰਦਕ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਧ ਸੁਧਿ ਲਹੈ ॥੨੯॥
bandak hōi bandh sudh lahai .29.
If you turn your thoughts to the Lord, the Lord will take care of you like a relative. ||29||
ਭਭਾ ਭੇਦਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥
bhabhā bhēdah bhēd milāvā .
BHABHA: When doubt is pierced, union is achieved.
ਅਬ ਭਉ ਭਾਨਿ ਭਰੋਸਉ ਆਵਾ ॥
ab bhau bhān bharōsau āvā .
I have shattered my fear, and now I have come to have faith.
ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰ ਜੋਰੇ ਆਨਿ ॥
bāvan akhar jōrē ān .
The fifty-two letters have been joined together.
ਸਕਿਆ ਨ ਅਖਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਨਿ ॥
sakiā n akhar ēk pashān .
But people cannot recognize the One Word of God.
ਸਤ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਕਹੈ ॥
sat kā sabad kabīrā kahai .
Kabeer speaks the Shabad, the Word of Truth.

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik ōunkār satinām karatā purakh guraprasād .
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:
ਝਗਰੁ ਕੀਏ ਝਗਰਉ ਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੫॥
jhagar kīē jhagarau hī pāvā .15.
Stirring up arguments, you shall only obtain more arguments. ||15||
ਞੰਞਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੁ ਘਟ ਰਹਿਓ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਹਾ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
ñanñā nikat j ghat rahiō dūr kahā taj jāi .
NYANYA: He dwells near you, deep within your heart; why do you leave Him and go far away?
ਜੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
jō bāhar sō bhītar jāniā .
I thought that He was outside of me, but now I know that He is within me.
ਭਇਆ ਭੇਦੁ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥੩੦॥
bhaiā bhēd bhūpat pahichāniā .30.
When I came to understand this mystery, then I recognized the Lord. ||30||
ਮਮਾ ਮੂਲ ਗਹਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
mamā mūl gahiā man mānai .
MAMMA: Clinging to the source, the mind is satisfied.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਨਭੈ ਰਹੈ ॥
pandit hōi s anabhai rahai .
One who is a Pandit, a religious scholar, must remain fearless.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਗਹ ਕਉ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
pandit lōgah kau biuhār .
It is the business of the scholarly person to join letters.
ਗਿਆਨਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
giānavant kau tat bīchār .
The spiritual person contemplates the essence of reality.
ਬਾਵਨ ਅਛਰ ਲੋਕ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
bāvan ashar lōk trai sabh kash in hī māh .
Through these fifty-two letters, the three worlds and all things are described.
ਏ ਅਖਰ ਖਿਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਓਇ ਅਖਰ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
ē akhar khir jāhigē ōi akhar in mah nāh .1.
These letters shall perish; they cannot describe the Imperishable Lord. ||1||
ਜਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਜਗੁ ਢੂਢਿਅਉ ਨੇਰਉ ਪਾਇਅਉ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧੬॥
jā kāran jag dhūdhiau nērau pāiau tāh .16.
I searched the whole world for Him, but I found Him near myself. ||16||
ਟਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਘਾਟ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tatā bikat ghāt ghat māhī .
TATTA: It is such a difficult path, to find Him within your own heart.
ਖੋਲਿ ਕਪਾਟ ਮਹਲਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
khōl kapāt mahal k n jāhī .
Open the doors within, and enter the Mansion of His Presence.
ਮਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
maramī hōi s man kau jānai .
One who knows this mystery understands his own mind.
ਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਮਨ ਮਿਲਤਾ ਬਿਲਮਾਵੈ ॥
mat kōī man milatā bilamāvai .
Let no one delay in uniting his mind.
ਮਗਨ ਭਇਆ ਤੇ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੧॥
magan bhaiā tē sō sach pāvai .31.
Those who obtain the True Lord are immersed in delight. ||31||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਜੀਅ ਜੈਸੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
jā kai jī jaisī budh hōī .
According to the wisdom within the mind,
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾਨੈਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੪੫॥
kah kabīr jānaigā sōī .45.
says Kabeer, so does one come to understand. ||45||
ਜਹਾ ਬੋਲ ਤਹ ਅਛਰ ਆਵਾ ॥
jahā bōl tah ashar āvā .
Wherever there is speech, there are letters.
ਜਹ ਅਬੋਲ ਤਹ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥
jah abōl tah man n rahāvā .
Where there is no speech, there, the mind rests on nothing.
ਬੋਲ ਅਬੋਲ ਮਧਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
bōl abōl madh hai sōī .
He is in both speech and silence.
ਜਸ ਓਹੁ ਹੈ ਤਸ ਲਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
jas ōh hai tas lakhai n kōī .2.
No one can know Him as He is. ||2||
ਦੇਖਿ ਅਟਲ ਟਲਿ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ॥
dēkh atal tal katah n jāvā .
Beholding the Immovable Lord, you shall not slip and go anywhere else.
ਰਹੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਘਟ ਪਰਚਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੭॥
rahai lapat ghat parachau pāvā .17.
You shall remain firmly attached to the Lord, and your heart will be happy. ||17||
ਮਮਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਜੁ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਸਾਧੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
mamā man siu kāj hai man sādhē sidh hōi .
MAMMA: The mortal's business is with his own mind; one who disciplines his mind attains perfection.
ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਮਨ ਸਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੨॥
man hī man siu kahai kabīrā man sā miliā n kōi .32.
Only the mind can deal with the mind; says Kabeer, I have not met anything like the mind. ||32||
ਅਲਹ ਲਹਉ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਕਹਉ ਤ ਕੋ ਉਪਕਾਰ ॥
alah lahau tau kiā kahau kahau t kō upakār .
If I come to know the Lord, what can I say; what good does it do to speak?
ਬਟਕ ਬੀਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥੩॥
batak bīj mah rav rahiō jā kō tīn lōk bisathār .3.
He is contained in the seed of the banyan-tree, and yet, His expanse spreads across the three worlds. ||3||
ਠਠਾ ਇਹੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਠਗ ਨੀਰਾ ॥
thathā ihai dūr thag nīrā .
T'HAT'HA: Keep yourself far away from this mirage.
ਨੀਠਿ ਨੀਠਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
nīth nīth man kīā dhīrā .
With great difficulty, I have calmed my mind.
ਜਿਨਿ ਠਗਿ ਠਗਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਵਾ ॥
jin thag thagiā sagal jag khāvā .
That cheater, who cheated and devoured the whole world
ਸੋ ਠਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਮਨੁ ਆਵਾ ॥੧੮॥
sō thag thagiā thaur man āvā .18.
- I have cheated that cheater, and my mind is now at peace. ||18||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਕਤੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਉ ॥
ih man sakatī ih man sīu .
This mind is Shakti; this mind is Shiva.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਕੋ ਜੀਉ ॥
ih man panch tat kō jīu .
This mind is the life of the five elements.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੇ ਜਉ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
ih man lē jau unaman rahai .
When this mind is channeled, and guided to enlightenment,
ਅਲਹ ਲਹੰਤਾ ਭੇਦ ਛੈ ਕਛੁ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਭੇਦ ॥
alah lahantā bhēd shai kash kash pāiō bhēd .
One who knows the Lord understands His mystery, and bit by bit, the mystery disappears.
ਉਲਟਿ ਭੇਦ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਭੰਗ ਅਛੇਦ ॥੪॥
ulat bhēd man bēdhiō pāiō abhang ashēd .4.
Turning away from the world, one's mind is pierced through with this mystery, and one obtains the Indestructible, Impenetrable Lord. ||4||
ਡਡਾ ਡਰ ਉਪਜੇ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਈ ॥
dadā dar upajē dar jāī .
DADDA: When the Fear of God wells up, other fears depart.
ਤਾ ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
tā dar mah dar rahiā samāī .
Other fears are absorbed into that Fear.
ਤਉ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਕੀ ਬਾਤੈ ਕਹੈ ॥੩੩॥
tau tīn lōk kī bātai kahai .33.
it can describe the secrets of the three worlds. ||33||
ਯਯਾ ਜਉ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਤਉ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਸਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਗਾਉ ॥
yayā jau jānah tau duramat han kar bas kāiā gāu .
YAYYA: If you know anything, then destroy your evil-mindedness, and subjugate the body-village.
ਤੁਰਕ ਤਰੀਕਤਿ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥
turak tarīkat jānīai hindū bēd purān .
The Muslim knows the Muslim way of life; the Hindu knows the Vedas and Puraanas.
ਮਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਨ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਕਛੂਅਕ ਪੜੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ॥੫॥
man samajhāvan kāranē kashūak parīai giān .5.
To instruct their minds, people ought to study some sort of spiritual wisdom. ||5||
ਜਉ ਡਰ ਡਰੈ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jau dar darai tā phir dar lāgai .
When one rejects the Fear of God, then other fears cling to him.
ਨਿਡਰ ਹੂਆ ਡਰੁ ਉਰ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧੯॥
nidar hūā dar ur hōi bhāgai .19.
But if he becomes fearless, the fears of his heart run away. ||19||
ਢਢਾ ਢਿਗ ਢੂਢਹਿ ਕਤ ਆਨਾ ॥
dhadhā dhig dhūdhah kat ānā .
DHADHA: Why do you search in other directions?
ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਭਾਜੈ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਰਉ ਥਾਰਉ ਨਾਉ ॥੩੪॥
ran rūtau bhājai nahī sūrau thārau nāu .34.
When you are engaged in the battle, don't run away; then, you shall be known as a spiritual hero. ||34||
ਰਾਰਾ ਰਸੁ ਨਿਰਸ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
rārā ras niras kar jāniā .
RARRA: I have found tastes to be tasteless.
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਸ ਸੁ ਰਸੁ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥
hōi niras s ras pahichāniā .
Becoming tasteless, I have realized that taste.
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
ōankār ād mai jānā .
I know only the One, the Universal Creator, the Primal Being.
ਲਿਖਿ ਅਰੁ ਮੇਟੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
likh ar mētai tāh n mānā .
I do not believe in anyone whom the Lord writes and erases.
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥
ōankār lakhai jau kōī .
If someone knows the One, the Universal Creator,
ਢੂਢਤ ਹੀ ਢਹਿ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥
dhūdhat hī dhah gaē parānā .
Searching for Him like this, the breath of life runs out.
ਚੜਿ ਸੁਮੇਰਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਜਬ ਆਵਾ ॥
char sumēr dhūdh jab āvā .
When I returned after climbing the mountain,
ਜਿਹ ਗੜੁ ਗੜਿਓ ਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੦॥
jih gar gariō s gar mah pāvā .20.
I found Him in the fortress - the fortress which He Himself made. ||20||
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਛਾਡੇ ਉਹ ਰਸੁ ਆਵਾ ॥
ih ras shādē uh ras āvā .
Abandoning these tastes, I have found that taste.
ਉਹ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਇਹ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵਾ ॥੩੫॥
uh ras pīā ih ras nahī bhāvā .35.
Drinking in that taste, this taste is no longer pleasing. ||35||
ਸੋਈ ਲਖਿ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
sōī lakh mētanā n hōī .6.
he shall not perish, since he knows Him. ||6||
ਕਕਾ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਕਮਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
kakā kiran kamal mah pāvā .
KAKKA: When the rays of Divine Light come into the heart-lotus,
ਸਸਿ ਬਿਗਾਸ ਸੰਪਟ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਾ ॥
sas bigās sanpat nahī āvā .
the moon-light of Maya cannot enter the basket of the mind.
ਣਾਣਾ ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਨਰ ਨੇਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
nānā ran rūtau nar nēhī karai .
NANNA: The warrior who fights on the battle-field should keep up and press on.
ਨਾ ਨਿਵੈ ਨਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੰਚਰੈ ॥
nā nivai nā phun sancharai .
He should not yield, and he should not retreat.
ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਗਣੈ ॥
dhann janam tāhī kō ganai .
Blessed is the coming of one
ਮਾਰੈ ਏਕਹਿ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੈ ॥੨੧॥
mārai ēkah taj jāi ghanai .21.
who conquers the one and renounces the many. ||21||
ਲਲਾ ਐਸੇ ਲਿਵ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
lalā aisē liv man lāvai .
LALLA: Embrace such love for the Lord in your mind,
ਅਨਤ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
anat n jāi param sach pāvai .
that you shall not have to go to any other; you shall attain the supreme truth.
ਅਰੁ ਜਉ ਤਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
ar jau tahā prēm liv lāvai .
And if you embrace love and affection for Him there,
ਤਉ ਅਲਹ ਲਹੈ ਲਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩੬॥
tau alah lahai lah charan samāvai .36.
then you shall obtain the Lord; obtaining Him, you shall be absorbed in His Feet. ||36||
ਅਰੁ ਜੇ ਤਹਾ ਕੁਸਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
ar jē tahā kusam ras pāvā .
And if one obtains the subtle fragrance of that spiritual flower,
ਅਕਹ ਕਹਾ ਕਹਿ ਕਾ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥੭॥
akah kahā kah kā samajhāvā .7.
he cannot describe the indescribable; he could speak, but who would understand? ||7||
ਖਖਾ ਇਹੈ ਖੋੜਿ ਮਨ ਆਵਾ ॥
khakhā ihai khōr man āvā .
KHAKHA: The mind has entered this cave.
ਖੋੜੇ ਛਾਡਿ ਨ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਾ ॥
khōrē shād n dah dis dhāvā .
It does not leave this cave to wander in the ten directions.
ਤਤਾ ਅਤਰ ਤਰਿਓ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ॥
tatā atar tariō nah jāī .
TATTA: The impassable world-ocean cannot be crossed over;
ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
tan tribhavan mah rahiō samāī .
the body remains embroiled in the three worlds.
ਜਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ॥
jau tribhavan tan māh samāvā .
But when the Lord of the three worlds enters into the body,
ਵਵਾ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਰਿ ॥
vavā bār bār bisan samhār .
WAWA: Time and time again, dwell upon the Lord.
ਬਿਸਨ ਸੰਮ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਾਰਿ ॥
bisan sanmhār n āvai hār .
Dwelling upon the Lord, defeat shall not come to you.
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜੇ ਬਿਸਨਤਨਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
bal bal jē bisanatanā jas gāvai .
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those, who sing the praises of the Saints, the sons of the Lord.
ਖਸਮਹਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
khasamah jān khimā kar rahai .
Knowing their Lord and Master, people show compassion;
ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਖਿਅਉ ਅਖੈ ਪਦੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੮॥
tau hōi nikhiau akhai pad lahai .8.
then, they become immortal, and attain the state of eternal dignity. ||8||
ਗਗਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
gagā gur kē bachan pashānā .
GAGGA: One who understands the Guru's Word
ਤਉ ਤਤਹਿ ਤਤ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੨॥
tau tatah tat miliā sach pāvā .22.
then one's essence merges with the essence of reality, and the True Lord is attained. ||22||
ਥਥਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
thathā athāh thāh nahī pāvā .
T'HAT'HA: He is Unfathomable; His depths cannot be fathomed.
ਓਹੁ ਅਥਾਹ ਇਹੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥
ōh athāh ih thir n rahāvā .
He is Unfathomable; this body is impermanent, and unstable.
ਵਿਸਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੭॥
visan milē sabh hī sach pāvai .37.
Meeting the Lord, total Truth is obtained. ||37||
ਵਾਵਾ ਵਾਹੀ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਵਾ ਜਾਨੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
vāvā vāhī jānīai vā jānē ih hōi .
WAWA: Know Him. By knowing Him, this mortal becomes Him.
ਦੂਜੀ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਧਰਈ ਕਾਨਾ ॥
dūjī bāt n dharaī kānā .
does not listen to anything else.
ਰਹੈ ਬਿਹੰਗਮ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
rahai bihangam katah n jāī .
He remains like a hermit and does not go anywhere,
ਅਗਹ ਗਹੈ ਗਹਿ ਗਗਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥੯॥
agah gahai gah gagan rahāī .9.
when he grasps the Ungraspable Lord and dwells in the sky of the Tenth Gate. ||9||
ਥੋੜੈ ਥਲਿ ਥਾਨਕ ਆਰੰਭੈ ॥
thōrai thal thānak āranbhai .
The mortal builds his dwelling upon this tiny space;
ਬਿਨੁ ਹੀ ਥਾਭਹ ਮੰਦਿਰੁ ਥੰਭੈ ॥੨੩॥
bin hī thābhah mandir thanbhai .23.
without any pillars, he wishes to support a mansion. ||23||
ਦਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਜੁ ਬਿਨਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
dadā dēkh j binasanahārā .
DADDA: Whatever is seen shall perish.
ਇਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਜਬ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਬ ਮਿਲਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੮॥
ih ar ōh jab milai tab milat n jānai kōi .38.
When this soul and that Lord are blended, then, having been blended, they cannot be known separately. ||38||
ਸਸਾ ਸੋ ਨੀਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੋਧਹੁ ॥
sasā sō nīkā kar sōdhah .
SASSA: Discipline your mind with sublime perfection.
ਘਟ ਪਰਚਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਨਿਰੋਧਹੁ ॥
ghat parachā kī bāt nirōdhah .
Refrain from that talk which attracts the heart.
ਘਘਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਿਮਸੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
ghaghā ghat ghat nimasai sōī .
GHAGHA: He dwells in each and every heart.
ਘਟ ਫੂਟੇ ਘਟਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
ghat phūtē ghat kabah n hōī .
Even when the body-pitcher bursts, he does not diminish.
ਤਾ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ਘਾਟ ਜਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
tā ghat māh ghāt jau pāvā .
When someone finds the Path to the Lord within his own heart,
ਜਸ ਅਦੇਖਿ ਤਸ ਰਾਖਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
jas adēkh tas rākh bichārā .
Contemplate the One who is unseen.
ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਕੁੰਚੀ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
dasavai duār kunchī jab dījai .
When the key is inserted in the Tenth Gate,
ਤਉ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੪॥
tau daiāl kō darasan kījai .24.
then the Blessed Vision of the Merciful Lord's Darshan is seen. ||24||
ਘਟ ਪਰਚੈ ਜਉ ਉਪਜੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
ghat parachai jau upajai bhāu .
The heart is attracted, when love wells up.
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਰਾਉ ॥੩੯॥
pūr rahiā tah tribhavan rāu .39.
The King of the three worlds is perfectly pervading and permeating there. ||39||
ਖਖਾ ਖੋਜਿ ਪਰੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥ ਜੋ ਖੋਜੈ ਸੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
khakhā khōj parai jau kōī . jō khōjai sō bahur n hōī .
KHAKHA: Anyone who seeks Him, and by seeking Him, finds Him, shall not be born again.
ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਅਵਘਟ ਕਤ ਧਾਵਾ ॥੧੦॥
sō ghat shād avaghat kat dhāvā .10.
why should he abandon that Path to follow some other path? ||10||
ਙੰਙਾ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਵਾਰੋ ਸੰਦੇਹ ॥
nannā nigrah sanēh kar niravārō sandēh .
NGANGA: Restrain yourself, love the Lord, and dismiss your doubts.
ਨਾਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭਾਜੀਐ ਪਰਮ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਏਹ ॥੧੧॥
nāhī dēkh n bhājīai param siānap ēh .11.
Even if you do not see the Path, do not run away; this is the highest wisdom. ||11||
ਧਧਾ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
dhadhā aradhah uradh nibērā .
DHADHA: When one ascends from the lower realms of the earth to the higher realms of the heavens, then everything is resolved.
ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧਹ ਮੰਝਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥
aradhah uradhah manjh basērā .
The Lord dwells in both the lower and higher worlds.
ਅਰਧਹ ਛਾਡਿ ਉਰਧ ਜਉ ਆਵਾ ॥
aradhah shād uradh jau āvā .
Leaving the earth, the soul ascends to the heavens;
ਖੋਜ ਬੂਝਿ ਜਉ ਕਰੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
khōj būjh jau karai bīchārā .
When someone seeks Him, and comes to understand and contemplate Him,
ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪੦॥
tau bhavajal tarat n lāvai bārā .40.
then he crosses over the terrifying world-ocean in an instant. ||40||
ਚਚਾ ਰਚਿਤ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
chachā rachit chitr hai bhārī .
CHACHA: He painted the great picture of the world.
ਤਜਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੈ ਚੇਤਹੁ ਚਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥
taj chitrai chētah chitakārī .
Forget this picture, and remember the Painter.
ਤਉ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੫॥
tau aradhah uradh miliā sukh pāvā .25.
then, the lower and higher join together, and peace is obtained. ||25||
ਨੰਨਾ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਾਈ ॥
nannā nis din nirakhat jāī .
NANNA: The days and nights go by; I am looking for the Lord.
ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਰਤਵਾਈ ॥
nirakhat nain rahē ratavāī .
Looking for Him, my eyes have become blood-shot.
ਸਸਾ ਸੋ ਸਹ ਸੇਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥
sasā sō sah sēj savārai .
SASSA: The bed of the soul-bride is adorned by her Husband Lord;
ਸੋਈ ਸਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥
sōī sahī sandēh nivārai .
her skepticism is dispelled.
ਅਲਪ ਸੁਖ ਛਾਡਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
alap sukh shād param sukh pāvā .
Renouncing the shallow pleasures of the world, she obtains the supreme delight.
ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਹੈ ਅਵਝੇਰਾ ॥
chitr bachitr ihai avajhērā .
This wondrous painting is now the problem.
ਤਜਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਚਿਤੇਰਾ ॥੧੨॥
taj chitrai chit rākh chitērā .12.
Forget this picture and focus your consciousness on the Painter. ||12||
ਛਛਾ ਇਹੈ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥
shashā ihai shatrapat pāsā .
CHHACHHA: The Sovereign Lord of the Universe is here with you.
ਛਕਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਰਹਹੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
shak k n rahah shād k n āsā .
Why are you so unhappy? Why don't you abandon your desires?
ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਬ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
nirakhat nirakhat jab jāi pāvā .
After looking and looking,when He is finally found,
ਤਬ ਲੇ ਨਿਰਖਹਿ ਨਿਰਖ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥੨੬॥
tab lē nirakhah nirakh milāvā .26.
then the one who was looking merges into the One who was looked for. ||26||
ਪਪਾ ਅਪਰ ਪਾਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
papā apar pār nahī pāvā .
PAPPA: He is limitless; His limits cannot be found.
ਤਬ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰੀਅ ਓੁਹੁ ਕੰਤੁ ਕਹਾਵਾ ॥੪੧॥
tab ih trī ōh kant kahāvā .41.
Then, she is the soul-bride; He is called her Husband Lord. ||41||
ਹਾਹਾ ਹੋਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
hāhā hōt hōi nahī jānā .
HAHA: He exists, but He is not known to exist.
ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਤਬਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
jab hī hōi tabah man mānā .
When He is known to exist, then the mind is pleased and appeased.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਉ ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥
rē man mai tau shin shin samajhāvā .
O my mind, each and every moment I try to instruct you,
ਤਾਹਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਤ ਆਪੁ ਬਧਾਵਾ ॥੧੩॥
tāh shād kat āp badhāvā .13.
but you forsake Him, and entangle yourself with others. ||13||
ਜਜਾ ਜਉ ਤਨ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਰਾਵੈ ॥
jajā jau tan jīvat jarāvai .
JAJJA: If someone burns his body while he is still alive,
ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਚਉ ਲਾਵਾ ॥
param jōt siu parachau lāvā .
I have attuned myself to the Supreme Light.
ਪਾਂਚਉ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕਰਈ ॥
pānhchau indrī nigrah karaī .
One who controls his five senses
ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਨਿਰਵਰਈ ॥੨੭॥
pāp punn dōū niravaraī .27.
rises above both sin and virtue. ||27||
ਹੈ ਤਉ ਸਹੀ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥
hai tau sahī lakhai jau kōī .
Of course the Lord exists, if one could only understand Him.
ਤਬ ਓਹੀ ਉਹੁ ਏਹੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪੨॥
tab ōhī uh ēh n hōī .42.
Then, He alone exists, and not this mortal being. ||42||
ਲਿੰਉ ਲਿੰਉ ਕਰਤ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥
linu linu karat phirai sabh lōg .
Everyone goes around saying, "I'll take this, and I'll take that."
ਜੋਬਨ ਜਾਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jōban jār jugat sō pāvai .
and burns away the desires of his youth, then he finds the right way.
ਅਸ ਜਰਿ ਪਰ ਜਰਿ ਜਰਿ ਜਬ ਰਹੈ ॥
as jar par jar jar jab rahai .
When he burns his desire for his own wealth, and that of others,
ਤਬ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜਾਰਉ ਲਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
tab jāi jōt ujārau lahai .14.
then he finds the Divine Light. ||14||
ਫਫਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਫੂਲਹ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
phaphā bin phūlah phal hōī .
FAFFA: Even without the flower, the fruit is produced.
ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥
tā phal phank lakhai jau kōī .
One who looks at a slice of that fruit
ਦੂਣਿ ਨ ਪਰਈ ਫੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥
dūn n paraī phank bichārai .
and reflects on it, will not be consigned to reincarnation.
ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਸਭੈ ਤਨ ਫਾਰੈ ॥੨੮॥
tā phal phank sabhai tan phārai .28.
A slice of that fruit slices all bodies. ||28||
ਤਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
tā kāran biāpai bah sōg .
Because of that, they suffer in terrible pain.
ਲਖਿਮੀ ਬਰ ਸਿਉ ਜਉ ਲਿਉ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
lakhimī bar siu jau liu lāvai .
When someone comes to love the Lord of Lakhshmi,
ਸੋਗੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪੩॥
sōg mitai sabh hī sukh pāvai .43.
his sorrow departs, and he obtains total peace. ||43||
ਬਬਾ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥
babā bindah bind milāvā .
BABBA: When one drop blends with another drop,
ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦਿ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
bindah bind n bishuran pāvā .
then these drops cannot be separated again.
ਬੰਦਉ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਗਹੈ ॥
bandau hōi bandagī gahai .
Become the Lord's slave, and hold tight to His meditation.
ਖਖਾ ਖਿਰਤ ਖਪਤ ਗਏ ਕੇਤੇ ॥
khakhā khirat khapat gaē kētē .
KHAKHA: Many have wasted their lives, and then perished.
ਖਿਰਤ ਖਪਤ ਅਜਹੂੰ ਨਹ ਚੇਤੇ ॥
khirat khapat ajahūn nah chētē .
Wasting away, they do not remember the Lord, even now.
ਅਬ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਜਉ ਮਨਾ ਰਹੈ ॥
ab jag jān jau manā rahai .
But if someone, even now, comes to know the transitory nature of the world and restrain his mind,
ਜਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਛੁਰਾ ਤਹ ਥਿਰੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੪੪॥
jah kā bishurā tah thir lahai .44.
he shall find his permanent home, from which he was separated. ||44||
