ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਪੁਰਖਾ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
har kē jan satigur satapurakhā binau karau gur pās .
O humble servant of the Lord, O True Guru, O True Primal Being: I offer my humble prayer to You, O Guru.
ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਜਾ ਆਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
kāhē rē man chitavah udam jā āhar har jīu pariā .
Why, O mind, do you plot and plan, when the Dear Lord Himself provides for your care?
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰੀ ਚਨਣਾਠੀਆ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਉਰਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
tērā nām karī chananāthīā jē man urasā hōi .
I would make Your Name the sandalwood, and my mind the stone to rub it on;
ਨਾਭਿ ਕਮਲ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਉਪਜੇ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
nābh kamal tē brahamā upajē bēd parah mukh kanth savār .
From the lotus of Vishnu's navel, Brahma was born; He chanted the Vedas with a melodious voice.
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਇਵੇਹਾ ਜੀਵਣਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
dhrig ivēhā jīvanā jit har prīt n pāi .
Cursed is that life, in which the Lord's Love is not obtained.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਤੁਮ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਦੂਜੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਜੀ ॥
har kī tum sēvā karah dūjī sēvā karah n kōi jī .
Serve the Lord; do not serve anyone else.
ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
jug māh nām dulanbh hai guramukh pāiā jāi .
It is so difficult to obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, in this age; only the Gurmukh obtains it.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
rām rām sabh kō kahai kahiai rām n hōi .
Everyone chants the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam; but by such chanting, the Lord is not obtained.
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
tis jan sānht sadā mat nihachal jis kā abhimān gavāē .
That humble being who eliminates his ego is at peace; he is blessed with an ever-stable intellect.
ਨਾ ਕਾਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਨਾ ਕਾਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
nā kāsī mat ūpajai nā kāsī mat jāi .
Wisdom is not produced in Benares, nor is wisdom lost in Benares.
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਿਖੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
ēkō nām nidhān pandit sun sikh sach sōī .
The One Name is the treasure, O Pandit. Listen to these True Teachings.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਹਉ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

O Servant of the Lord, O True Guru, O True Primal Being, I offer my prayers to You, O Guru.
ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
gōvind gōvind prītam man prītam mil satasangat sabad man mōhai .
The Lord, the Lord of the Universe is the Beloved of the minds of those who join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. The Shabad of His Word fascinates their minds.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੇ ॥
har jan ūtam ūtam bānī mukh bōlah paraupakārē .
The humble servants of the Lord are exalted, and exalted is their speech. With their mouths, they speak for the benefit of others.
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਹਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
hōh daiāl mērā man lāvah hau anadin rām nām nit dhiāī .
Be Merciful and attune my mind, so that I might meditate continually on the Lord's Name, night and day.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥
guramukh sakhī sahēlī mērī mō kau dēvah dān har prān jīvāiā .
O Gurmukhs, O my friends and companions, give me the gift of the Lord's Name, the life of my very life.
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
jin satigur purakh jin har prabh pāiā mō kau kar upadēs har mīth lagāvai .
One who has found the Lord God through the True Guru, has made the Lord seem so sweet to me, through the His Teachings.
ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਏ ॥
māī bāp putr sabh har kē kīē .
Mother, father and sons are all made by the Lord;
ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਜਾ ਆਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
kāhē rē man chitavah udam jā āhar har jīu pariā .
Why, O mind, do you contrive your schemes, when the Dear Lord Himself provides for your care?
ਕਿਰਿਆਚਾਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਤੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥
kiriāchār karah khat karamā it rātē sansārī .
They perform the four rituals and six religious rites; the world is engrossed in these.
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
har dhan jāp har dhan tāp har dhan bhōjan bhāiā .
The wealth of the Lord is my chanting, the wealth of the Lord is my deep meditation; the wealth of the Lord is the food I enjoy.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਪਿਤਰੀ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੋ ॥
jis simarat sabh kilavikh nāsah pitarī hōi udhārō .
Remembering Him, all sins are erased, and ones generations are saved.
ਮਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਪਛਮ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਪੂਰਬ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਜਾਤ ॥
matā karai pasham kai tāī pūrab hī lai jāt .
He decides to go to the west, but the Lord leads him away to the east.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੇ ॥
nām nidhān jin jan japiō tin kē bandhan kātē .
Those humble beings who chant the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, have their bonds broken.
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੋ ਅਪਨੈ ਦੁਖਿ ਭਰਿਆ ॥
jis mānukh pah karau bēnatī sō apanai dukh bhariā .
Whoever I approach to ask for help, I find him full of his own troubles.
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਗਰਭ ਮਾਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਾਸਾ ਊਹਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਧਰਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
prathamē garabh mātā kai vāsā ūhā shōd dharan mah āiā .
First, he came to dwell in his mother's womb; leaving it, he came into the world.
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
dukh binasē sukh kīā nivāsā trisanā jalan bujhāī .
My sorrows are ended, and I am filled with peace. The fire of desire within me has been quenched.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਲੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਰਤ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੋ ॥
patit pavitr līē kar apunē sagal karat namasakārō .
The Lord has sanctified the sinners and made them His own; all bow in reverence to Him.
ਹੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਬੂਝਨਹਾਰੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਭਤਾ ॥
hai nāhī kōū būjhanahārō jānai kavan bhatā .
No one understands the Lord; who can understand His plans?
ਮਤਾ ਮਸੂਰਤਿ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥
matā masūrat avar siānap jan kau kashū n āiō .
The humble servant of the Lord has no plans, politics or other clever tricks.
ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਢੀਲਾ ॥
din rātī ārādhah piārō nimakh n kījai dhīlā .
Worship the Lord in adoration, day and night, O my dear - do not delay for a moment.
ਮੁਨਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਗਿ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਸਭ ਕੀਨ੍ਹੇ ਬਸਿ ਅਪਨਹੀ ॥
mun jōgī sāsatrag kahāvat sabh kīnhē bas apanahī .
They call themselves silent sages, Yogis and scholars of the Shaastras, but Maya has has them all under her control.
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
dui kar jōr karī bēnantī thākur apanā dhiāiā .
With my palms pressed together, I offer my prayer, meditating on my Lord and Master.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਬਲੁ ਹੈ ਥੋਰਾ ॥
māt pitā bhāī sut bandhap tin kā bal hai thōrā .
Mother, father, siblings, children and relatives - their power is insignificant.
ਆਲ ਜਾਲ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਤਜਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
āl jāl bhram mōh tajāvai prabh sētī rang lāī .
He rids us of entanglements, doubt and emotional attachment, and leads us to love God.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਨਹਾਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕਰੀ ॥
khin mah thāp uthāpanahārā kīmat jāi n karī .
In an instant, He establishes and disestablishes; His value cannot be described.
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਆ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਬਸਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tūn dātā jīā sabhanā kā basah mērē man māhī .
You are the Giver of all beings; please, come to dwell within my mind.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਨਿਸਿ ਅਰੁ ਭੋਰ ॥
kar kirapā apanā daras dījai jas gāvau nis ar bhōr .
Show Mercy to me, and grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. I sing Your Praises night and day.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲੋਕ ਅਰੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਆਈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਧਾਇ ॥
braham lōk ar rudr lōk āī indr lōk tē dhāi .
Overwhelming the realm of Brahma, the realm of Shiva and the realm of Indra, Maya has come running here.
ਅਪਜਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਗਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
apajas mitai hōvai jag kīrat daragah baisan pāīai .
His bad reputation is erased, he is acclaimed all over the world, and he obtains a seat in the Court of the Lord.
ਬਿਸ੍ਵੰਭਰ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
bisvanbhar jīan kō dātā bhagat bharē bhandār .
The all-sustaining Lord is the Giver of all beings; His devotional worship is an overflowing treasure.
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਆਪ ॥
jan kī paij savārī āp .
The Lord Himself has protected the honor of His humble servant.
ਕਬਹੂ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚੀਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
kabahū har siu chīt n lāiō .
You never focused your consciousness on the Lord.
ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਵੰਤ ॥
rasanā rām rām ravant .
With your tongue, chant the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam.
ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣੀ ਆਉ ॥
shād sagal siānapā sādh saranī āu .
Give up all your clever tricks, and seek the Sanctuary of the Holy Saint.
ਆਪਨਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਮਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
āpanā gur sēv sad hī ramah gun gōbind .
Serve your Guru forever, and chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਈ ਸੰਕਾ ਤੂਟਿ ॥
gur prasādī prabh dhiāiā gaī sankā tūt .
By Guru's Grace, I meditate on God, and my doubts are gone.
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬਹੁ ਸਘਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਾ ਦੀਰਘ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
ahanbudh bah saghan māiā mahā dīragh rōg .
Intellectual egotism and great love for Maya are the most serious chronic diseases.
ਆਰਾਧਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
ārādh srīdhar saphal mūrat karan kāran jōg .
Worship and adore the Lord of wealth, the fulfilling vision, the Almighty Cause of causes.
ਤੂੰ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਸੁਖ ਰਾਇ ॥
tūn samarath saran kō dātā dukh bhanjan sukh rāi .
You are the Almighty Lord, the Giver of Sanctuary, the Destroyer of pain, the King of happiness.
