ਜਿਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਜਾਣੇ ॥੧੧॥
jinā āpē guramukh dē vadiāī sē jan sachī daragah jānē .11.
That Gurmukh, whom You have blessed with greatness - that humble being is known in Your True Court. ||11||

Shalok, Mardaanaa:
ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਕਾਮੁ ਮਦੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਪੀਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
kal kalavālī kām mad manūā pīvanahār .
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the vessel, filled with the wine of sexual desire; the mind is the drunkard.
ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰੀ ਪੀਲਾਵਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
krōdh katōrī mōh bharī pīlāvā ahankār .
Anger is the cup, filled with emotional attachment, and egotism is the server.
ਮਜਲਸ ਕੂੜੇ ਲਬ ਕੀ ਪੀ ਪੀ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
majalas kūrē lab kī pī pī hōi khuār .
Drinking too much in the company of falsehood and greed, one is ruined.
ਕਰਣੀ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਸਤੁ ਗੁੜੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
karanī lāhan sat gur sach sarā kar sār .
So let good deeds be your distillery, and Truth your molasses; in this way, make the most excellent wine of Truth.
ਗੁਣ ਮੰਡੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਘਿਉ ਸਰਮੁ ਮਾਸੁ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥
gun mandē kar sīl ghiu saram mās āhār .
Make virtue your bread, good conduct the ghee, and modesty the meat to eat.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਖਾਧੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥
guramukh pāīai nānakā khādhai jāh bikār .1.
As Gurmukh, these are obtained, O Nanak; partaking of them, one's sins depart. ||1||
ਮਰਦਾਨਾ ੧ ॥

Mardaanaa:
ਕਾਇਆ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਦੁ ਮਜਲਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
kāiā lāhan āp mad majalas trisanā dhāt .
The human body is the vat, self-conceit is the wine, and desire is the company of drinking buddies.
ਮਨਸਾ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਕੂੜਿ ਭਰੀ ਪੀਲਾਏ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ॥
manasā katōrī kūr bharī pīlāē jamakāl .
The cup of the mind's longing is overflowing with falsehood, and the Messenger of Death is the cup-bearer.
ਇਤੁ ਮਦਿ ਪੀਤੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਖਟੀਅਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
it mad pītai nānakā bahutē khatīah bikār .
Drinking in this wine, O Nanak, one takes on countless sins and corruptions.
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁੜੁ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੰਡੇ ਭਉ ਮਾਸੁ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥
giān gur sālāh mandē bhau mās āhār .
So make spiritual wisdom your molasses, the Praise of God your bread, and the Fear of God the meat you eat.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
nānak ih bhōjan sach hai sach nām ādhār .2.
O Nanak, this is the true food; let the True Name be your only Support. ||2||
ਕਾਂਯਾਂ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਧਾਰ ॥
kānhyānh lāhan āp mad anmrit tis kī dhār .
If the human body is the vat, and self-realization is the wine, then a stream of Ambrosial Nectar is produced.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲਾਪੁ ਹੋਇ ਲਿਵ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਰੀ ਪੀ ਪੀ ਕਟਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
satasangat siu mēlāp hōi liv katōrī anmrit bharī pī pī katah bikār .3.
Meeting with the Society of the Saints, the cup of the Lord's Love is filled with this Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, one's corruptions and sins are wiped away. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬਾ ਆਪੇ ਖਟ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
āpē sur nar gan gandharabā āpē khat darasan kī bānī .
He Himself is the angelic being, the heavenly herald, and the celestial singer. He Himself is the one who explains the six schools of philosophy.
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਵ ਸੰਕਰ ਮਹੇਸਾ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥
āpē siv sankar mahēsā āpē guramukh akath kahānī .
He Himself is Shiva, Shankara and Mahaysh; He Himself is the Gurmukh, who speaks the Unspoken Speech.
ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਭੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਬਾਣੀ ॥
āpē jōgī āpē bhōgī āpē sanniāsī phirai bibānī .
He Himself is the Yogi, He Himself is the Sensual Enjoyer, and He Himself is the Sannyaasee, wandering through the wilderness.
ਆਪੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸਿਆਣੀ ॥
āpai nāl gōsat āp upadēsai āpē sughar sarūp siānī .
He discusses with Himself, and He teaches Himself; He Himself is discrete, graceful and wise.
ਆਪਣਾ ਚੋਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੧੨॥
āpanā chōj kar vēkhai āpē āpē sabhanā jīā kā hai jānī .12.
Staging His own play, He Himself watches it; He Himself is the Knower of all beings. ||12||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਏਹਾ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
ēhā sandhiā paravān hai jit har prabh mērā chit āvai .
That evening prayer alone is acceptable, which brings the Lord God to my consciousness.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥
har siu prīt ūpajai māiā mōh jalāvai .
Love for the Lord wells up within me, and my attachment to Maya is burnt away.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੂਆ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur parasādī dubidhā marai manūā asathir sandhiā karē vīchār .
By Guru's Grace, duality is conquered, and the mind becomes stable; I have made contemplative meditation my evening prayer.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
nānak sandhiā karai manamukhī jīu n tikai mar janmai hōi khuār .1.
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukh may recite his evening prayers, but his mind is not centered on it; through birth and death, he is ruined. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
priu priu karatī sabh jag phirī mērī piās n jāi .
I wandered over the whole world, crying out, "Love, O Love!", but my thirst was not quenched.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਗਈ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
nānak satigur miliai mērī piās gaī pir pāiā ghar āi .2.
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, my desires are satisfied; I found my Beloved, when I returned to my own home. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਤੰਤੁ ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
āpē tant param tant sabh āpē āpē thākur dās bhaiā .
He Himself is the supreme essence, He Himself is the essence of all. He Himself is the Lord and Master, and He Himself is the servant.
ਆਪੇ ਦਸ ਅਠ ਵਰਨ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਲਇਆ ॥
āpē das ath varan upāian āp braham āp rāj laiā .
He Himself created the people of the eighteen castes; God Himself acquired His domain.
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰੇ ਦਇਆ ॥
āpē mārē āpē shōdai āpē bakhasē karē daiā .
He Himself kills, and He Himself redeems; He Himself, in His Kindness, forgives us. He is infallible
ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੁਲੈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਥਿਆ ॥
āp abhul n bhulai kab hī sabh sach tapāvas sach thiā .
- He never errs; the justice of the True Lord is totally True.
ਆਪੇ ਜਿਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
āpē jinā bujhāē guramukh tin andarah dūjā bharam gaiā .13.
Those whom the Lord Himself instructs as Gurmukh - duality and doubt depart from within them. ||13||
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
salōk mah 5 .
Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤੈ ਤਨਿ ਉਡੈ ਖੇਹ ॥
har nām n simarah sādhasang tai tan udai khēh .
That body, which does not remember the Lord's Name in meditation in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, shall be reduced to dust.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਫਿਟੁ ਅਲੂਣੀ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥
jin kītī tisai n jānaī nānak phit alūnī dēh .1.
Cursed and insipid is that body, O Nanak, which does not know the One who created it. ||1||
