ਰਾਜਨ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਇਆ ਤੂ ਨੀਦ ਭਰੇ ਜਾਗਤ ਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
rājan kiu sōiā tū nīd bharē jāgat kat nāhī rām .
O king, why are you sleeping? Why don't you wake up to reality?
ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੁ ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
māiā jhūth rudan kētē bilalāhī rām .
It is useless to cry and whine about Maya, but so many cry out and bewail.
ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
bilalāh kētē mahā mōhan bin nām har kē sukh nahī .
So many cry out for Maya, the great enticer, but without the Name of the Lord, there is no peace.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਾਕੇ ਜਹ ਭਾਵਤ ਤਹ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
sahas siānap upāv thākē jah bhāvat tah jāhī .
Thousands of clever tricks and efforts will not succeed. One goes wherever the Lord wills him to go.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਹੀ ॥
ād antē madh pūran sarabatr ghat ghat āhī .
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is all-pervading everywhere; He is in each and every heart.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮੁ ਸੇ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
binavant nānak jin sādhasangam sē pat sētī ghar jāhī .2.
Prays Nanak, those who join the Saadh Sangat go to the house of the Lord with honor. ||2||
ਨਰਪਤਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਓ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
narapat jān grahiō sēvak siānē rām .
O king of mortals, know that your palaces and wise servants shall be of no use in the end.
ਸਰਪਰ ਵੀਛੁੜਣਾ ਮੋਹੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sarapar vīshuranā mōhē pashutānē rām .
You shall certainly have to separate yourself from them, and their attachment shall make you feel regret.
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
harichandaurī dēkh bhūlā kahā asathit pāīai .
Beholding the phantom city, you have gone astray; how can you now find stability?
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਆਨ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
bin nām har kē ān rachanā ahilā janam gavāīai .
Absorbed in things other than the Name of the Lord, this human life is wasted in vain.
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥
hau hau karat n trisan būjhai nah kānhm pūran giānē .
Indulging in egotistical actions, your thirst is not quenched. Your desires are not fulfilled, and you do not attain spiritual wisdom.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
binavant nānak bin nām har kē kētiā pashutānē .3.
Prays Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, so many have departed with regret. ||3||
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
dhār anugrahō apanā kar līnā rām .
Showering His blessings, the Lord has made me His own.
ਭੁਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhujā gah kādh līō sādhū sang dīnā rām .
Grasping me by the arm, He has pulled me out of the mud, and He has blessed me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥
sādhasangam har arādhē sagal kalamal dukh jalē .
Worshipping the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, all my sins and sufferings are burnt away.
ਮਹਾ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਦਾਨ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੇ ਚਲੇ ॥
mahā dharam sudān kiriā sang tērai sē chalē .
This is the greatest religion, and the best act of charity; this alone shall go along with you.
ਰਸਨਾ ਅਰਾਧੈ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ॥
rasanā arādhai ēk suāmī har nām man tan bhīnā .
My tongue chants in adoration the Name of the One Lord and Master; my mind and body are drenched in the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਬੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥
nānak jis nō har milāē sō sarab gun parabīnā .4.6.9.
O Nanak, whoever the Lord unites with Himself, is filled with all virtues. ||4||6||9||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
gur sēvā tē sukh pāīai hōr thai sukh n bhāl .
Serving the Guru, peace is obtained; do not search for peace anywhere else.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੇਦੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
gur kai sabad man bhēdīai sadā vasai har nāl .
The soul is pierced by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. The Lord dwells ever with the soul.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
nānak nām tinā kau milai jin har vēkhai nadar nihāl .1.
O Nanak, they alone obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, who are blessed by the Lord with His Glance of Grace. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਸੋ ਖਰਚੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
siphat khajānā bakhas hai jis bakhasai sō kharachai khāi .
The treasure of the Lord's Praise is such a blessed gift; he alone obtains it to spend, unto whom the Lord bestows it.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਸਭ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
satigur bin hath n āvaī sabh thakē karam kamāi .
Without the True Guru, it does not come to hand; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਧਨਹੀਣੁ ਹੈ ਅਗੈ ਭੁਖਾ ਕਿ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
nānak manamukh jagat dhanahīn hai agai bhukhā k khāi .2.
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs of the world lack this wealth; when they are hungry in the next world, what will they have to eat there? ||2||

ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਸਭਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
sabh tērī tū sabhas dā sabh tudh upāiā .
All are Yours, and You belong to all. You created all.
ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sabhanā vich tū varatadā tū sabhanī dhiāiā .
You are pervading within all - all meditate on You.
ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂ ਭਗਤਿ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
tis dī tū bhagat thāi pāih jō tudh man bhāiā .
You accept the devotional worship of those who are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
jō har prabh bhāvai sō thīai sabh karan tērā karāiā .
Whatever pleases the Lord God happens; all act as You cause them to act.
ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
salāhih har sabhanā tē vadā jō sant janānh kī paij rakhadā āiā .1.
Praise the Lord, the greatest of all; He preserves the honor of the Saints. ||1||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤਾ ਜਗਿ ਜੀਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
nānak giānī jag jītā jag jītā sabh kōi .
O Nanak, the spiritually wise one has conquered all others.
ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
nāmē kāraj sidh hai sahajē hōi s hōi .
Through the Name, his affairs are brought to perfection; whatever happens is by His Will.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਅਚਲੁ ਹੈ ਚਲਾਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
guramat mat achal hai chalāi n sakai kōi .
Under Guru's Instruction, his mind is held steady; no one can make him waver.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhagatā kā har angīkār karē kāraj suhāvā hōi .
The Lord makes His devotee His own, and his affairs are adjusted.
