ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਓਨ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਪਾਇ ॥
bhagat tērē daiāl ōnhā mihar pāi .
O Merciful Lord, You bless Your devotees with Your Grace.
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਡ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਪੋਹੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇ ॥
dūkh darad vad rōg n pōhē tis māi .
Suffering, pain, terrible disease and Maya do not afflict them.
ਭਗਤਾ ਏਹੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਇ ॥
bhagatā ēh adhār gun gōvind gāi .
This is the Support of the devotees, that they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
sadā sadā din rain ikō ik dhiāi .
Forever and ever, day and night, they meditate on the One and Only Lord.
ਪੀਵਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
pīvat anmrit nām jan nāmē rahē aghāi .14.
Drinking in the Ambrosial Amrit of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, His humble servants remain satisfied with the Naam. ||14||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
kōt bighan tis lāgatē jis nō visarai nāu .
Millions of obstacles stand in the way of one who forgets the Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਪਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੧॥
nānak anadin bilapatē jiu sunñai ghar kāu .1.
O Nanak, night and day, he croaks like a raven in a deserted house. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਪਿਰੀ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਜਾ ਥੀਐ ਸਾਈ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਰੁਤਿ ॥
pirī milāvā jā thīai sāī suhāvī rut .
Beauteous is that season, when I am united with my Beloved.
ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਨਹ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵੀਐ ਨਿਤ ॥੨॥
gharī muhat nah vīsarai nānak ravīai nit .2.
I do not forget Him for a moment or an instant; O Nanak, I contemplate Him constantly. ||2||

ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਵਰੀਆਮ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਹੋੜੀਐ ॥ ਫਉਜ ਸਤਾਣੀ ਹਾਠ ਪੰਚਾ ਜੋੜੀਐ ॥
sūrabīr varīām kinai n hōrīai . phauj satānī hāth panchā jōrīai .
Even brave and mighty men cannot withstand the powerful and overwhelming army which the five passions have gathered.
ਦਸ ਨਾਰੀ ਅਉਧੂਤ ਦੇਨਿ ਚਮੋੜੀਐ ॥
das nārī audhūt dēn chamōrīai .
The ten organs of sensation attach even detached renunciates to sensory pleasures.
ਜਿਣਿ ਜਿਣਿ ਲੈਨ੍ਹਿ ਰਲਾਇ ਏਹੋ ਏਨਾ ਲੋੜੀਐ ॥
jin jin lainh ralāi ēhō ēnā lōrīai .
They seek to conquer and overpower them, and so increase their following.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਇਨ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮੋੜੀਐ ॥
trai gun in kai vas kinai n mōrīai .
The world of the three dispositions is under their influence; no one can stand against them.
ਭਰਮੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਖਾਈ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੋੜੀਐ ॥
bharam kōt māiā khāī kah kit bidh tōrīai .
So tell me - how can the fort of doubt and the moat of Maya be overcome?
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਬਿਖਮ ਦਲੁ ਫੋੜੀਐ ॥
gur pūrā ārādh bikham dal phōrīai .
Worshipping the Perfect Guru, this awesome force is subdued.
ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਗੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰ ਜੋੜੀਐ ॥੧੫॥
hau tis agai din rāt rahā kar jōrīai .15.
I stand before Him, day and night, with my palms pressed together. ||15||

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭੇ ਉਤਰਨਿ ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
kilavikh sabhē utaran nīt nīt gun gāu .
All sins are washed away, by continually singing the Lord's Glories.
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਲੇਸਾ ਊਪਜਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
kōt kalēsā ūpajah nānak bisarai nāu .1.
Millions of afflictions are produced, O Nanak, when the Name is forgotten. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੁਗਤਿ ॥
nānak satigur bhētiai pūrī hōvai jugat .
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one comes to know the Perfect Way.
ਹਸੰਦਿਆ ਖੇਲੰਦਿਆ ਪੈਨੰਦਿਆ ਖਾਵੰਦਿਆ ਵਿਚੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ॥੨॥
hasandiā khēlandiā painandiā khāvandiā vichē hōvai mukat .2.
While laughing, playing, dressing and eating, he is liberated. ||2||

ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਭਰਮ ਗੜੁ ਤੋੜਿਆ ॥
sō satigur dhan dhann jin bharam gar tōriā .
Blessed, blessed is the True Guru, who has demolished the fortress of doubt.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੋੜਿਆ ॥
sō satigur vāh vāh jin har siu jōriā .
Waaho! Waaho! - Hail! Hail! to the True Guru, who has united me with the Lord.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਾਰੂਓ ॥
nām nidhān akhut gur dēi dārūō .
The Guru has given me the medicine of the inexhaustible treasure of the Naam.
ਮਹਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਤਿਨੈ ਬਿਦਾਰੂਓ ॥
mahā rōg bikarāl tinai bidārūō .
He has banished the great and terrible disease.
ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਖਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
pāiā nām nidhān bahut khajāniā .
I have obtained the great treasure of the wealth of the Naam.
ਜਿਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
jitā janam apār āp pashāniā .
I have obtained eternal life, recognizing my own self.
ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਰਥ ਦੇਵ ॥
mahimā kahī n jāi gur samarath dēv .
The Glory of the all-powerful Divine Guru cannot be described.
ਗੁਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ॥੧੬॥
gur pārabraham paramēsur aparanpar alakh abhēv .16.
The Guru is the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, infinite, unseen and unknowable. ||16||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰੇਦਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਤੂੰ ਕਮਾਵਦਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਭੁੰਚੁ ॥
udam karēdiā jīu tūn kamāvadiā sukh bhunch .
Make the effort, and you shall live; practicing it, you shall enjoy peace.
ਧਿਆਇਦਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤਰੀ ਚਿੰਤ ॥੧॥
dhiāidiā tūn prabhū mil nānak utarī chint .1.
Meditating, you shall meet God, O Nanak, and your anxiety shall vanish. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਸੁਭ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਮਣ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗ ॥
subh chintan gōbind raman niramal sādhū sang .
Bless me with sublime thoughts, O Lord of the Universe, and contemplation in the immaculate Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰਉ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੨॥
nānak nām n visarau ik gharī kar kirapā bhagavant .2.
O Nanak, may I never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, for even an instant; be merciful to me, Lord God. ||2||

ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਕਾਹੇ ਡਰਪੀਐ ॥
tērā kītā hōi t kāhē darapīai .
Whatever happens is according to Your Will, so why should I be afraid?
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੀਉ ਅਰਪੀਐ ॥
jis mil japīai nāu tis jīu arapīai .
Meeting Him, I meditate on the Name - I offer my soul to Him.
ਆਇਐ ਚਿਤਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ॥
āiai chit nihāl sāhib bēsumār .
When the Infinite Lord comes to mind, one is enraptured.
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਪੋਹੇ ਕਵਣੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਲਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
tis nō pōhē kavan jis val nirankār .
Who can touch one who has the Formless Lord on his side?
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥
sabh kish tis kai vas n kōī bāharā .
Everything is under His control; no one is beyond Him.
ਸੋ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਰਾ ॥
sō bhagatā man vuthā sach samāharā .
He, the True Lord, dwells in the minds of His devotees.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਣ ਵਾਲਿਆ ॥
tērē dās dhiāin tudh tūn rakhan vāliā .
Your slaves meditate on You; You are the Savior, the Protector Lord.
