ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
jis simarat sukh hōi sagalē dūkh jāh .2.
Remembering Him in meditation, happiness comes, and all sorrows and pains simply vanish. ||2||

ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੀਐ ॥
akul niranjan purakh agam apārīai .
He is without relatives, immaculate, all-powerful, unapproachable and infinite.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥
sachō sachā sach sach nihārīai .
Truly, the True Lord is seen to be the Truest of the True.
ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਧਾਰੀਐ ॥
kūr n jāpai kish tērī dhārīai .
Nothing established by You appears to be false.
ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਜੇਤ ਉਪਾਰੀਐ ॥
sabhasai dē dātār jēt upārīai .
The Great Giver gives sustenance to all those He has created.
ਇਕਤੁ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸੰਜਾਰੀਐ ॥
ikat sūt parōi jōt sanjārīai .
He has strung all on only one thread; He has infused His Light in them.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਮੰਝਿ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਤਾਰੀਐ ॥
hukamē bhavajal manjh hukamē tārīai .
By His Will, some drown in the terrifying world-ocean, and by His Will, some are carried across.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਸੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਰੀਐ ॥
prabh jīu tudh dhiāē sōi jis bhāg mathārīai .
O Dear Lord, he alone meditates on You, upon whose forehead such blessed destiny is inscribed.
ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥੧॥
tērī gat mit lakhī n jāi hau tudh balihārīai .1.
Your condition and state cannot be known; I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jā tūn tusah miharavān achint vasah man māh .
When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, you automatically come to dwell within my mind.
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
jā tūn tusah miharavān nau nidh ghar mah pāh .
When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, I find the nine treasures within the home of my own self.
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
jā tūn tusah miharavān tā gur kā mantr kamāh .
When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, I act according to the Guru's Instructions.
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
jā tūn tusah miharavān tā nānak sach samāh .1.
When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, then Nanak is absorbed in the True One. ||1||

ਕਿਤੀ ਬੈਹਨ੍ਹਿ ਬੈਹਣੇ ਮੁਚੁ ਵਜਾਇਨਿ ਵਜ ॥
kitī baihanh baihanē much vajāin vaj .
Many sit on thrones, to the sounds of musical instruments.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਰਹੀਆ ਲਜ ॥੨॥
nānak sachē nām vin kisai n rahīā laj .2.
O Nanak, without the True Name, no one's honor is safe. ||2||

ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਨ੍ਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਸਣੁ ਖੜੇ ॥
tudh dhiāinh bēd katēbā san kharē .
The followers of the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran, standing at Your Door, meditate on You.
ਗਣਤੀ ਗਣੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਿ ਪੜੇ ॥
ganatī ganī n jāi tērai dar parē .
Uncounted are those who fall at Your Door.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਨ੍ਹਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਾ ॥
brahamē tudh dhiāinh indr indrāsanā .
Brahma meditates on You, as does Indra on his throne.
ਸੰਕਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣਾ ॥
sankar bisan avatār har jas mukh bhanā .
Shiva and Vishnu, and their incarnations, chant the Lord's Praise with their mouths,
ਪੀਰ ਪਿਕਾਬਰ ਸੇਖ ਮਸਾਇਕ ਅਉਲੀਏ ॥
pīr pikābar sēkh masāik aulīē .
as do the Pirs, the spiritual teachers, the prophets and the Shaykhs, the silent sages and the seers.
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਉਲੀਏ ॥
ōt pōt nirankār ghat ghat maulīē .
Through and through, the Formless Lord is woven into each and every heart.
ਕੂੜਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ਧਰਮੇ ਤਗੀਐ ॥
kūrah karē vinās dharamē tagīai .
One is destroyed through falsehood; through righteousness, one prospers.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗੀਐ ॥੨॥
jit jit lāih āp tit tit lagīai .2.
Whatever the Lord links him to, to that he is linked. ||2||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਚੰਗਿਆਈਂ ਆਲਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਂ ਹੋਇ ਸੇਰੁ ॥
changiāīnh ālak karē buriāīnh hōi sēr .
He is reluctant to do good, but eager to practice evil.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜੁ ਕਲਿ ਆਵਸੀ ਗਾਫਲ ਫਾਹੀ ਪੇਰੁ ॥੧॥
nānak aj kal āvasī gāphal phāhī pēr .1.
O Nanak, today or tomorrow, the feet of the careless fool shall fall into the trap. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਕਿਤੀਆ ਕੁਢੰਗ ਗੁਝਾ ਥੀਐ ਨ ਹਿਤੁ ॥
kitīā kudhang gujhā thīai n hit .
No matter how evil my ways are, still, Your Love for me is not concealed.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਢਕਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਿਤੁ ॥੨॥
nānak tai sah dhakiā man mah sachā mit .2.
Nanak: You, O Lord, conceal my short-comings and dwell within my mind; You are my true friend. ||2||

ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਤੁਝੈ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਗੋਲਿਆ ॥
hau māgau tujhai daiāl kar dāsā gōliā .
I beg of You, O Merciful Lord: please, make me the slave of Your slaves.
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ॥
nau nidh pāī rāj jīvā bōliā .
I obtain the nine treasures and royalty; chanting Your Name, I live.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਘਰਿ ਘਣਾ ॥
anmrit nām nidhān dāsā ghar ghanā .
The great ambrosial treasure, the Nectar of the Naam, is in the home of the Lord's slaves.
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਣਾ ॥
tin kai sang nihāl sravanī jas sunā .
In their company, I am in ecstasy, listening to Your Praises with my ears.
ਕਮਾਵਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
kamāvā tin kī kār sarīr pavit hōi .
Serving them, my body is purified.
ਪਖਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਸਿ ਬਿਗਸਾ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਇ ॥
pakhā pānī pīs bigasā pair dhōi .
I wave the fans over them, and carry water for them; I grind the corn for them, and washing their feet, I am over-joyed.
ਆਪਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥
āpah kashū n hōi prabh nadar nihālīai .
By myself, I can do nothing; O God, bless me with Your Glance of Grace.
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਦਿਚੈ ਥਾਉ ਸੰਤ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲੀਐ ॥੩॥
mōh niragun dichai thāu sant dharam sālīai .3.
I am worthless - please, bless me with a seat in the place of worship of the Saints. ||3||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਾ ਸਦ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
sājan tērē charan kī hōi rahā sad dhūr .
O Friend, I pray that I may remain forever the dust of Your Feet.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀਆ ਪੇਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
nānak saran tuhārīā pēkhau sadā hajūr .1.
Nanak has entered Your Sanctuary, and beholds You ever-present. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਅਸੰਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗ ॥
patit punīt asankh hōh har charanī man lāg .
Countless sinners become pure, by fixing their minds on the Feet of the Lord.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥੨॥
athasath tīrath nām prabh jis nānak masatak bhāg .2.
The Name of God is the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, O Nanak, for one who has such destiny written upon his forehead. ||2||

ਨਿਤ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਵਦਿਗਾਰ ਦਾ ॥
nit japīai sās girās nāu paravadigār dā .
With every breath and morsel of food, chant the Name of the Lord, the Cherisher.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰੇ ਰਹੰਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰਦਾ ॥
jis nō karē rahanm tis n visāradā .
The Lord does not forget one upon whom He has bestowed His Grace.
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ॥
āp upāvanahār āpē hī māradā .
He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself destroys.
