ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਪਨੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
ih srapanī tā kī kītī hōī .
This she-serpent is created by Him.
ਬਲੁ ਅਬਲੁ ਕਿਆ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
bal abal kiā is tē hōī .4.
What power or weakness does she have by herself? ||4||
ਇਹ ਬਸਤੀ ਤਾ ਬਸਤ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
ih basatī tā basat sarīrā .
If she abides with the mortal, then his soul abides in his body.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਤਰੇ ਕਬੀਰਾ ॥੫॥੬॥੧੯॥
gur prasād sahaj tarē kabīrā .5.6.19.
By Guru's Grace, Kabeer has easily crossed over. ||5||6||19||

ਕਹਾ ਸੁਆਨ ਕਉ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
kahā suān kau simrit sunāē .
Why bother to read the Simritees to a dog?
ਕਹਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ॥੧॥
kahā sākat pah har gun gāē .1.
Why bother to sing the Lord's Praises to the faithless cynic? ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਮੇ ਰਮਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
rām rām rām ramē ram rahīai .
Remain absorbed in the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਿਉ ਭੂਲਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sākat siu bhūl nahī kahīai .1. rahāu .
Do not bother to speak of it to the faithless cynic, even by mistake. ||1||Pause||
ਕਊਆ ਕਹਾ ਕਪੂਰ ਚਰਾਏ ॥
kaūā kahā kapūr charāē .
Why offer camphor to a crow?
ਕਹ ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਕਉ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਏ ॥੨॥
kah bisīar kau dūdh pīāē .2.
Why give the snake milk to drink? ||2||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
satasangat mil bibēk budh hōī .
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, discriminating understanding is attained.
ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਲੋਹਾ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
pāras paras lōhā kanchan sōī .3.
That iron which touches the Philosopher's Stone becomes gold. ||3||
ਸਾਕਤੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
sākat suān sabh karē karāiā .
The dog, the faithless cynic, does everything as the Lord causes him to do.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
jō dhur likhiā s karam kamāiā .4.
He does the deeds pre-ordained from the very beginning. ||4||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਨੀਮੁ ਸਿੰਚਾਈ ॥
anmrit lai lai nīm sinchāī .
If you take Ambrosial Nectar and irrigate the neem tree with it,
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਉਆ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥੭॥੨੦॥
kahat kabīr uā kō sahaj n jāī .5.7.20.
still, says Kabeer, its natural qualities are not changed. ||5||7||20||

Aasaa:
ਲੰਕਾ ਸਾ ਕੋਟੁ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸੀ ਖਾਈ ॥
lankā sā kōt samund sī khāī .
A fortress like that of Sri Lanka, with the ocean as a moat around it
ਤਿਹ ਰਾਵਨ ਘਰ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
tih rāvan ghar khabar n pāī .1.
- there is no news about that house of Raavan. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥
kiā māgau kish thir n rahāī .
What shall I ask for? Nothing is permanent.
ਦੇਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਚਲਿਓ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dēkhat nain chaliō jag jāī .1. rahāu .
I see with my eyes that the world is passing away. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕੁ ਲਖੁ ਪੂਤ ਸਵਾ ਲਖੁ ਨਾਤੀ ॥
ik lakh pūt savā lakh nātī .
Thousands of sons and thousands of grandsons
ਤਿਹ ਰਾਵਨ ਘਰ ਦੀਆ ਨ ਬਾਤੀ ॥੨॥
tih rāvan ghar dīā n bātī .2.
- but in that house of Raavan, the lamps and wicks have gone out. ||2||
ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤਪਤ ਰਸੋਈ ॥
chand sūraj jā kē tapat rasōī .
The moon and the sun cooked his food.
ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥੩॥
baisantar jā kē kaparē dhōī .3.
The fire washed his clothes. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
guramat rāmai nām basāī .
Under Guru's Instructions, one whose mind is filled with the Lord's Name,
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥
asathir rahai n katahūn jāī .4.
becomes permanent, and does not go anywhere. ||4||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਈ ॥
kahat kabīr sunah rē lōī .
Says Kabeer, listen, people:
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥੮॥੨੧॥
rām nām bin mukat n hōī .5.8.21.
without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated. ||5||8||21||
ਆਸਾ ॥

Aasaa:
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪੂਤੁ ਪਿਛੈਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
pahilā pūt pishairī māī .
First, the son was born, and then, his mother.
ਗੁਰੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਚੇਲੇ ਕੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur lāgō chēlē kī pāī .1.
The guru falls at the feet of the disciple. ||1||
ਏਕੁ ਅਚੰਭਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ ਭਾਈ ॥
ēk achanbhau sunah tumh bhāī .
Listen to this wonderful thing, O Siblings of Destiny!
ਦੇਖਤ ਸਿੰਘੁ ਚਰਾਵਤ ਗਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dēkhat singh charāvat gāī .1. rahāu .
I saw the lion herding the cows. ||1||Pause||
ਜਲ ਕੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਤਰਵਰਿ ਬਿਆਈ ॥
jal kī mashulī taravar biāī .
The fish of the water gives birth upon a tree.
ਦੇਖਤ ਕੁਤਰਾ ਲੈ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
dēkhat kutarā lai gaī bilāī .2.
I saw a cat carrying away a dog. ||2||
ਤਲੈ ਰੇ ਬੈਸਾ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੂਲਾ ॥
talai rē baisā ūpar sūlā .
The branches are below, and the roots are above.
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਪੇਡਿ ਲਗੇ ਫਲ ਫੂਲਾ ॥੩॥
tis kai pēd lagē phal phūlā .3.
The trunk of that tree bears fruits and flowers. ||3||
ਘੋਰੈ ਚਰਿ ਭੈਸ ਚਰਾਵਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
ghōrai char bhais charāvan jāī .
Riding a horse, the buffalo takes him out to graze.
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਲੁ ਗੋਨਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਈ ॥੪॥
bāhar bail gōn ghar āī .4.
The bull is away, while his load has come home. ||4||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੁ ਇਸ ਪਦ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
kahat kabīr j is pad būjhai .
Says Kabeer, one who understands this hymn,
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੫॥੯॥੨੨॥
rām ramat tis sabh kish sūjhai .5.9.22.
and chants the Lord's Name, comes to understand everything. ||5||9||22||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਬਿੰਦੁ ਤੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਕੀਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੁੰਡ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
bind tē jin pind kīā agan kund rahāiā .
The Lord created the body from sperm, and protected it in the fire pit.
ਦਸ ਮਾਸ ਮਾਤਾ ਉਦਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
das mās mātā udar rākhiā bahur lāgī māiā .1.
For ten months He preserved you in your mother's womb, and then, after you were born, you became attached to Maya. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਲੋਭਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇਆ ॥
prānī kāhē kau lōbh lāgē ratan janam khōiā .
O mortal, why have you attached yourself to greed, and lost the jewel of life?
ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮਿ ਕਰਮ ਭੂਮਿ ਬੀਜੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pūrab janam karam bhūm bīj nāhī bōiā .1. rahāu .
You did not plant the seeds of good actions in the earth of your past lives. ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਹੋਨਾ ਸੋ ਹੋਇਆ ॥
bārik tē biradh bhaiā hōnā sō hōiā .
From an infant, you have grown old. That which was to happen, has happened.
ਜਾ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਝੋਟ ਪਕਰੈ ਤਬਹਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਇਆ ॥੨॥
jā jam āi jhōt pakarai tabah kāhē rōiā .2.
When the Messenger of Death comes and grabs you by your hair, why do you cry out then? ||2||
