ਜਾਨੀ ਘਤਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਆਇਆ ਰੁੰਨੇ ਵੀਰ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
jānī ghat chalāiā likhiā āiā runnē vīr sabāē .
This dear soul is driven off, when the pre-ordained Order is received, and all the relatives cry out in mourning.
ਕਾਂਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਥੀਆ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਜਾਂ ਦਿਨ ਪੁੰਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ॥
kānhiā hans thīā vēshōrā jānh din punnē mērī māē .
The body and the swan-soul are separated, when one's days are past and done, O my mother.
ਜੇਹਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੇਹਾ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jēhā likhiā tēhā pāiā jēhā purab kamāiā .
As is one's pre-ordained Destiny, so does one receive, according to one's past actions.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
dhann sirandā sachā pātisāh jin jag dhandhai lāiā .1.
Blessed is the Creator, the True King, who has linked the whole world to its tasks. ||1||
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਇਆਣਾ ॥
sāhib simarah mērē bhāīhō sabhanā ēh paiānā .
Meditate in remembrance on the Lord and Master, O my Siblings of Destiny; everyone has to pass this way.
ਏਥੈ ਧੰਧਾ ਕੂੜਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਹਾ ਆਗੈ ਸਰਪਰ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
ēthai dhandhā kūrā chār dihā āgai sarapar jānā .
These false entanglements last for only a few days; then, one must surely move on to the world hereafter.
ਆਗੈ ਸਰਪਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਮਿਹਮਾਣਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਗਾਰਬੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
āgai sarapar jānā jiu mihamānā kāhē gārab kījai .
He must surely move on to the world hereafter, like a guest; so why does he indulge in ego?
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
jit sēviai daragah sukh pāīai nām tisai kā lījai .
Chant the Name of the Lord; serving Him, you shall obtain peace in His Court.
ਆਗੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਮੂਲੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਿਹਾਣਾ ॥
āgai hukam n chalai mūlē sir sir kiā vihānā .
In the world hereafter, no one's commands will be obeyed. According to their actions, each and every person proceeds.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਿਮਰਿਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਇਆਣਾ ॥੨॥
sāhib simarih mērē bhāīhō sabhanā ēh paiānā .2.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਹੀਲੜਾ ਏਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥
jō tis bhāvai sanmrath sō thīai hīlarā ēh sansārō .
Whatever pleases the Almighty Lord, that alone comes to pass; this world is an opportunity to please Him.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਾਚੜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
jal thal mahīal rav rahiā sācharā sirajanahārō .
The True Creator Lord is pervading and permeating the water, the land and the air.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੋ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sāchā sirajanahārō alakh apārō tā kā ant n pāiā .
The True Creator Lord is invisible and infinite; His limits cannot be found.
ਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
āiā tin kā saphal bhaiā hai ik man jinī dhiāiā .
Fruitful is the coming of those, who meditate single-mindedly on Him.
ਢਾਹੇ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
dhāhē dhāh usārē āpē hukam savāranahārō .
He destroys, and having destroyed, He creates; by His Order, He adorns us.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਹੀਲੜਾ ਏਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
jō tis bhāvai sanmrath sō thīai hīlarā ēh sansārō .3.
Whatever pleases the Almighty Lord, that alone comes to pass; this world is an opportunity to please Him. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੁੰਨਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਰੋਵੈ ਲਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥
nānak runnā bābā jānīai jē rōvai lāi piārō .
Nanak: he alone truly weeps, O Baba, who weeps in the Lord's Love.
ਵਾਲੇਵੇ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬਾਬਾ ਰੋਈਐ ਰੋਵਣੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਕਾਰੋ ॥
vālēvē kāran bābā rōīai rōvan sagal bikārō .
One who weeps for the sake of worldly objects, O Baba, weeps totally in vain.
ਰੋਵਣੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਕਾਰੋ ਗਾਫਲੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
rōvan sagal bikārō gāphal sansārō māiā kāran rōvai .
This weeping is all in vain; the world forgets the Lord, and weeps for the sake of Maya.
ਚੰਗਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਏਵੈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
changā mandā kish sūjhai nāhī ih tan ēvai khōvai .
He does not distinguish between good and evil, and wastes away this life in vain.
ਐਥੈ ਆਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਸੀ ਕੂੜਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੋ ॥
aithai āiā sabh kō jāsī kūr karah ahankārō .
Everyone who comes here, shall have to leave; to act in ego is false.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੁੰਨਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਰੋਵੈ ਲਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥੪॥੧॥
nānak runnā bābā jānīai jē rōvai lāi piārō .4.1.
Nanak: he alone truly weeps, O Baba, who weeps in the Lord's Love. ||4||1||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਆਵਹੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਚੜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਹਾਂ ॥
āvah milah sahēlīhō sacharā nām laēhānh .
Come, O my companions - let us meet together and dwell upon the True Name.
ਰੋਵਹ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਤਨ ਕਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਹਾਲੇਹਾਂ ॥
rōvah birahā tan kā āpanā sāhib sanmhālēhānh .
Let us weep over the body's separation from the Lord and Master; let us remember Him in contemplation.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਲਿਹ ਪੰਥੁ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਹ ਅਸਾ ਭਿ ਓਥੈ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
sāhib samhālih panth nihālih asā bh ōthai jānā .
Let us remember the Lord and Master in contemplation, and keep a watchful eye on the Path. We shall have to go there as well.
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਲੀਆ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
jis kā kīā tin hī līā hōā tisai kā bhānā .
He who has created, also destroys; whatever happens is by His Will.
ਜੋ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਆਇਆ ਅਸੀ ਕਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇਹਾ ॥
jō tin kar pāiā s āgai āiā asī k hukam karēhā .
Whatever He has done, has come to pass; how can we command Him?
ਆਵਹੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਚੜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਹਾ ॥੧॥
āvah milah sahēlīhō sacharā nām laēhā .1.
Come, O my companions - let us meet together and dwell upon the True Name. ||1||
ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਮੰਦਾ ਲੋਕਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਐਸਾ ਕੋਇ ॥
maran n mandā lōkā ākhīai jē mar jānai aisā kōi .
Death would not be called bad, O people, if one knew how to truly die.
ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
sēvih sāhib sanmrath āpanā panth suhēlā āgai hōi .
Serve your Almighty Lord and Master, and your path in the world hereafter will be easy.
ਪੰਥਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੈ ਜਾਵਹੁ ਤਾਂ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਆਗੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
panth suhēlai jāvah tānh phal pāvah āgai milai vadāī .
Take this easy path, and you shall obtain the fruits of your rewards, and receive honor in the world hereafter.
ਭੇਟੈ ਸਿਉ ਜਾਵਹੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੁ ਤਾਂ ਪਤਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਈ ॥
bhētai siu jāvah sach samāvah tānh pat lēkhai pāī .
Go there with your offering, and you shall merge in the True Lord; your honor shall be confirmed.
ਮਹਲੀ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਵਹੁ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਣੈ ॥
mahalī jāi pāvah khasamai bhāvah rang siu ralīā mānai .
You shall obtain a place in the Mansion of the Lord Master's Presence; being pleasing to Him, you shall enjoy the pleasures of His Love.
ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਮੰਦਾ ਲੋਕਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੨॥
maran n mandā lōkā ākhīai jē kōī mar jānai .2.
Death would not be called bad, O people, if one knew how to truly die. ||2||
ਮਰਣੁ ਮੁਣਸਾ ਸੂਰਿਆ ਹਕੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹੋਇ ਮਰਨਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੋ ॥
maran munasā sūriā hak hai jō hōi maran paravānō .
The death of brave heroes is blessed, if it is approved by God.
