Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਪੋਲੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੁਝੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਿ ॥
bhalakē uth papōlīai vin bujhē mugadh ajān .
Arising each day, you cherish your body, but you are idiotic, ignorant and without understanding.
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਛੁਟੈਗੀ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥
sō prabh chit n āiō shutaigī bēbān .
You are not conscious of God, and your body shall be cast into the wilderness.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
satigur sētī chit lāi sadā sadā rang mān .1.
Focus your consciousness on the True Guru; you shall enjoy bliss forever and ever. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣਿ ॥
prānī tūn āiā lāhā lain .
O mortal, you came here to earn a profit.
ਲਗਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਕੁਫਕੜੇ ਸਭ ਮੁਕਦੀ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lagā kit kuphakarē sabh mukadī chalī rain .1. rahāu .
What useless activities are you attached to? Your life-night is coming to its end. ||1||Pause||
ਕੁਦਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀਆ ਦਿਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
kudam karē pas pankhīā disai nāhī kāl .
The animals and the birds frolic and play-they do not see death.
ਓਤੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਮਨੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਾਥਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ॥
ōtai sāth manukh hai phāthā māiā jāl .
Mankind is also with them, trapped in the net of Maya.
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਭਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
mukatē sēī bhālīah j sachā nām samāl .2.
Those who always remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are considered to be liberated. ||2||
ਜੋ ਘਰੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ਸੋ ਲਗਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jō ghar shad gavāvanā sō lagā man māh .
That dwelling which you will have to abandon and vacate-you are attached to it in your mind.
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jithai jāi tudh varatanā tis kī chintā nāh .
And that place where you must go to dwell-you have no regard for it at all.
ਫਾਥੇ ਸੇਈ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
phāthē sēī nikalē j gur kī pairī pāh .3.
Those who fall at the Feet of the Guru are released from this bondage. ||3||
ਕੋਈ ਰਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
kōī rakh n sakaī dūjā kō n dikhāi .
No one else can save you-don't look for anyone else.
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥
chārē kundā bhāl kai āi paiā saranāi .
I have searched in all four directions; I have come to find His Sanctuary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਇਆ ਕਢਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੩॥
nānak sachai pātisāh dubadā laiā kadhāi .4.3.73.
O Nanak, the True King has pulled me out and saved me from drowning! ||4||3||73||

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
gharī muhat kā pāhunā kāj savāranahār .
For a brief moment, man is a guest of the Lord; he tries to resolve his affairs.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
māiā kām viāpiā samajhai nāhī gāvār .
Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand.
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਦਾਰ ॥੧॥
uth chaliā pashutāiā pariā vas jandār .1.
He arises and departs with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ||1||
ਅੰਧੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
andhē tūn baithā kandhī pāh .
You are sitting on the collapsing riverbank-are you blind?
ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jē hōvī pūrab likhiā tā gur kā bachan kamāh .1. rahāu .
If you are so pre-destined, then act according to the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਹ ਡਡੁਰੀ ਪਕੀ ਵਢਣਹਾਰ ॥
harī nāhī nah dadurī pakī vadhanahār .
The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe.
ਲੈ ਲੈ ਦਾਤ ਪਹੁਤਿਆ ਲਾਵੇ ਕਰਿ ਤਈਆਰੁ ॥
lai lai dāt pahutiā lāvē kar taīār .
Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.
ਜਾ ਹੋਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਾ ਲੁਣਿ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਖੇਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jā hōā hukam kirasān dā tā lun miniā khētār .2.
When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2||
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਇਆ ॥
pahilā pahar dhandhai gaiā dūjai bhar sōiā .
The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep.
ਤੀਜੈ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਇਆ ਚਉਥੈ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
tījai jhākh jhakhāiā chauthai bhōr bhaiā .
In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived.
ਕਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥
kad hī chit n āiō jin jīu pind dīā .3.
The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
sādhasangat kau vāriā jīu kīā kurabān .
I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I sacrifice my soul to them.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
jis tē sōjhī man paī miliā purakh sujān .
Through them, understanding has entered my mind, and I have met the All-knowing Lord God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਡਿਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੪॥
nānak dithā sadā nāl har antarajāmī jān .4.4.74.
Nanak sees the Lord always with him-the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||4||74||

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਭੇ ਗਲਾ ਵਿਸਰਨੁ ਇਕੋ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਉ ॥
sabhē galā visaran ikō visar n jāu .
Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord.
ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
dhandhā sabh jalāi kai gur nām dīā sach suāu .
All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life.
ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
āsā sabhē lāh kai ikā ās kamāu .
Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
jinī satigur sēviā tin agai miliā thāu .1.
Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
man mērē karatē nō sālāh .
O my mind, praise the Creator.
ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabhē shad siānapā gur kī pairī pāh .1. rahāu .
Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
dukh bhukh nah viāpaī jē sukhadātā man hōi .
Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.
ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
kit hī kanm n shijīai jā hiradai sachā sōi .
No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
jis tūn rakhah hath dē tis mār n sakai kōi .
No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥
sukhadātā gur sēvīai sabh avagan kadhai dhōi .2.
Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2||
ਸੇਵਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
sēvā mangai sēvakō lāīānh apunī sēv .
Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.
