ਤਾ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਲਖਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
tā kē rūp n jāhī lakhanē kiā kar ākh vīchārī .2.
His beauteous forms cannot be comprehended; what can anyone accomplish by discussing and debating? ||2||
ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ॥
tīn gunā tērē jug hī antar chārē tērīā khānī .
Throughout the ages, You are the three qualities, and the four sources of creation.
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
karam hōvai tā param pad pāīai kathē akath kahānī .3.
If You show Your Mercy, then one obtains the supreme status, and speaks the Unspoken Speech. ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
tūn karatā kīā sabh tērā kiā kō karē parānī .
You are the Creator; all are created by You. What can any mortal being do?
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਅਪਣੀ ਸਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥
jā kau nadar karah tūn apanī sāī sach samānī .4.
He alone, upon whom You shower Your Grace, is absorbed into the Truth. ||4||
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਲੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
nām tērā sabh kōī lēt hai jētī āvan jānī .
Everyone who comes and goes chants Your Name.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥੫॥
jā tudh bhāvai tā guramukh būjhai hōr manamukh phirai iānī .5.
When it is pleasing to Your Will, then the Gurmukh understands. Otherwise, the self-willed manmukhs wander in ignorance. ||5||
ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
chārē vēd brahamē kau dīē par par karē vīchārī .
You gave the four Vedas to Brahma, for him to read and read continually, and reflect upon.
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
tā kā hukam n būjhai bapurā narak surag avatārī .6.
The wretched one does not understand His Command, and is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||6||
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗਹ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੀਏ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥
jugah jugah kē rājē kīē gāvah kar avatārī .
In each and every age, He creates the kings, who are sung of as His Incarnations.
ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
tin bhī ant n pāiā tā kā kiā kar ākh vīchārī .7.
Even they have not found His limits; what can I speak of and contemplate? ||7||
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
tūn sachā tērā kīā sabh sāchā dēh t sāch vakhānī .
You are True, and all that You do is True. If You bless me with the Truth, I will speak on it.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਹਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੨੩॥
jā kau sach bujhāvah apanā sahajē nām samānī .8.1.23.
One whom You inspire to understand the Truth, is easily absorbed into the Naam. ||8||1||23||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
āsā mahalā 3 .
Aasaa, Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
satigur hamarā bharam gavāiā .
The True Guru has dispelled my doubts.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
har nām niranjan mann vasāiā .
He has enshrined the Immaculate Name of the Lord within my mind.
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sabad chīn sadā sukh pāiā .1.
Focusing on the Word of the Shabad, I have obtained lasting peace. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sun man mērē tat giān .
Listen, O my mind, to the essence of spiritual wisdom.
ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dēvan vālā sabh bidh jānai guramukh pāīai nām nidhān .1. rahāu .
The Great Giver knows our condition completely; the Gurmukh obtains the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satigur bhētē kī vadiāī .
The great glory of meeting the True Guru is
ਜਿਨਿ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
jin mamatā agan trisanā bujhāī .
that it has quenched the fire of possessiveness and desire;
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥
sahajē mātā har gun gāī .2.
imbued with peace and poise, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
vin gur pūrē kōi n jānī .
Without the Perfect Guru, no one knows the Lord.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਣੀ ॥
māiā mōh dūjai lōbhānī .
Attached to Maya, they are engrossed in duality.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
guramukh nām milai har bānī .3.
The Gurmukh receives the Naam, and the Bani of the Lord's Word. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਪਾਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਤਪੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gur sēvā tapānh sir tap sār .
Service to the Guru is the most excellent and sublime penance of penances.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
har jīu man vasai sabh dūkh visāranahār .
The Dear Lord dwells in the mind, and all suffering departs.
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥
dar sāchai dīsai sachiār .4.
Then, at the Gate of the True Lord, one appears truthful. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur sēvā tē tribhavan sōjhī hōi .
Serving the Guru, one comes to know the three worlds.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
āp pashān har pāvai sōi .
Understanding his own self, he obtains the Lord.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
sāchī bānī mahal parāpat hōi .5.
Through the True Word of His Bani, we enter the Mansion of His Presence. ||5||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur sēvā tē sabh kul udhārē .
Serving the Guru, all of one's generations are saved.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
niramal nām rakhai ur dhārē .
Keep the Immaculate Naam enshrined within your heart.
ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੬॥
sāchī sōbhā sāch duārē .6.
In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be adorned with True Glory. ||6||
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
sē vadabhāgī j gur sēvā lāē .
How very fortunate are they, who are committed to the Guru's service.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
anadin bhagat sach nām drirāē .
Night and day, they are engaged in devotional worship; the True Name is implanted within them.
ਨਾਮੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਸਬਾਏ ॥੭॥
nāmē udharē kul sabāē .7.
Through the Naam, all of one's generations are saved. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
nānak sāch kahai vīchār .
Nanak chants the true thought.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
har kā nām rakhah ur dhār .
Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart.
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੨੪॥
har bhagatī rātē mōkh duār .8.2.24.
Imbued with devotion to the Lord, the gate of salvation is found. ||8||2||24||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
āsā mahalā 3 .
Aasaa, Third Mehl:
ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
āsā ās karē sabh kōī .
Everyone lives, hoping in hope.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
hukamai būjhai nirāsā hōī .
Understanding His Command, one becomes free of desire.
ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਤੇ ਕਈ ਲੋਈ ॥
āsā vich sutē kaī lōī .
So many are asleep in hope.
ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਾਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥
sō jāgai jāgāvai sōī .1.
He alone wakes up, whom the Lord awakens. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
satigur nām bujhāiā vin nāvai bhukh n jāī .
The True Guru has led me to understand the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Naam, hunger does not go away.
