ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
alakh abhēvīai hānh .
He is unknowable and inscrutable.
ਤਾਂ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਂ ॥
tānh siu prīt kar hānh .
Enshrine love for Him.
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਰਿ ਹਾਂ ॥
binas n jāi mar hānh .
He does not perish, or go away, or die.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥
gur tē jāniā hānh .
He is known only through the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੫੯॥
nānak man māniā mērē manā .2.3.159.
Nanak, my mind is satisfied with the Lord, O my mind. ||2||3||159||
ਆਸਾਵਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
āsāvarī mahalā 5 .
Aasaavaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਏਕਾ ਓਟ ਗਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
ēkā ōt gah hānh .
Grab hold of the Support of the One Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
gur kā sabad kah hānh .
Chant the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਆਗਿਆ ਸਤਿ ਸਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
āgiā sat sah hānh .
Submit to the Order of the True Lord.
ਮਨਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਲਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
manah nidhān lah hānh .
Receive the treasure in your mind.
ਸੁਖਹਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukhah samāīai mērē manā .1. rahāu .
Thus you shall be absorbed in peace, O my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਵਤ ਜੋ ਮਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
jīvat jō marai hānh .
One who is dead while yet alive,
ਦੁਤਰੁ ਸੋ ਤਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
dutar sō tarai hānh .
crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਸਭ ਕੀ ਰੇਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
sabh kī rēn hōi hānh .
One who becomes the dust of all
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਹਉ ਸੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
nirabhau kahau sōi hānh .
- He alone is called fearless.
ਮਿਟੇ ਅੰਦੇਸਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥
mitē andēsiā hānh .
His anxieties are removed
ਸੰਤ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥
sant upadēsiā mērē manā .1.
by the Teachings of the Saints, O my mind. ||1||
ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
jis jan nām sukh hānh .
That humble being, who takes happiness in the Naam, the Name of the Lord
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਕਦੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
tis nikat n kadē dukh hānh .
- pain never draws near Him.
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
jō har har jas sunē hānh .
One who listens to the Praise of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
sabh kō tis mannē hānh .
is obeyed by all men.
ਸਫਲੁ ਸੁ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥
saphal s āiā hānh .
How fortunate it is that he came into the world;
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੬੦॥
nānak prabh bhāiā mērē manā .2.4.160.
Nanak, he is pleasing to God, O my mind. ||2||4||160||
ਆਸਾਵਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
āsāvarī mahalā 5 .
Aasaavaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
mil har jas gāīai hānh .
Meeting together, let us sing the Praises of the Lord,
ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
param pad pāīai hānh .
and attain the supreme state.
ਉਆ ਰਸ ਜੋ ਬਿਧੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
uā ras jō bidhē hānh .
Those who obtain that sublime essence,
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਧੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
tā kau sagal sidhē hānh .
obtain all of the spiritual powers of the Siddhas.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥
anadin jāgiā hānh .
They remain awake and aware night and day;
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਡਭਾਗਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nānak badabhāgiā mērē manā .1. rahāu .
Nanak, they are blessed by great good fortune, O my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਪਗ ਧੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
sant pag dhōīai hānh .
Let us wash the feet of the Saints;
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
duramat khōīai hānh .
our evil-mindedness shall be cleansed.
ਦਾਸਹ ਰੇਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
dāsah rēn hōi hānh .
Becoming the dust of the feet of the Lord's slaves,
ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
biāpai dukh n kōi hānh .
one shall not be afflicted with pain.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
bhagatānh saran par hānh .
Taking to the Sanctuary of His devotees,
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਕਦੇ ਮਰੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
janam n kadē mar hānh .
he is no longer subject to birth and death.
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੇ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥
asathir sē bhaē hānh .
They alone become eternal,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਜਪਿ ਲਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥
har har jinh jap laē mērē manā .1.
who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind. ||1||
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥
sājan mīt tūn hānh .
You are my Friend, my Best Friend.
ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਮੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥
nām drirāi mūn hānh .
Please, implant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
tis bin nāh kōi hānh .
Without Him, there is not any other.
ਮਨਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਸੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
manah arādh sōi hānh .
Within my mind, I worship Him in adoration.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
nimakh n vīsarai hānh .
I do not forget Him, even for an instant.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
tis bin kiu sarai hānh .
How can I live without Him?
ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ਜਾਉ ਹਾਂ ॥
gur kau kurabān jāu hānh .
I am a sacrifice to the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੬੧॥
nānak japē nāu mērē manā .2.5.161.

ਆਸਾਵਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥
kāran karan tūn hānh .
You are the Creator, the Cause of causes.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾ ਸੁਝੈ ਮੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥
avar nā sujhai mūn hānh .
I cannot think of any other.
ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
karah s hōīai hānh .
Whatever You do, comes to pass.
ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
sahaj sukh sōīai hānh .
I sleep in peace and poise.
ਧੀਰਜ ਮਨਿ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥
dhīraj man bhaē hānh .
My mind has become patient,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਪਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh kai dar paē mērē manā .1. rahāu .
since I fell at God's Door, O my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
sādhū sangamē hānh .
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,
ਪੂਰਨ ਸੰਜਮੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
pūran sanjamē hānh .
I gained perfect control over my senses.
ਜਬ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੇ ਆਪ ਹਾਂ ॥
jab tē shutē āp hānh .
Ever since I rid myself of my self-conceit,
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਾਪ ਹਾਂ ॥
tab tē mitē tāp hānh .
my sufferings have ended.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀਆ ਹਾਂ ॥
kirapā dhārīā hānh .
He has showered His Mercy upon me.
ਪਤਿ ਰਖੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥
pat rakh banavārīā mērē manā .1.
The Creator Lord has preserved my honor, O my mind. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
ih sukh jānīai hānh .
Know that this is the only peace;
ਹਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥
har karē s mānīai hānh .
accept whatever the Lord does.
ਮੰਦਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
mandā nāh kōi hānh .
No one is bad.
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਰੇਨ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
sant kī rēn hōi hānh .
Become the dust of the Feet of the Saints.
ਆਪੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਖੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
āpē jis rakhai hānh .
He Himself preserves those
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੋ ਚਖੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥
har anmrit sō chakhai mērē manā .2.
who taste the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord, O my mind. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
jis kā nāh kōi hānh .
One who has no one to call his own
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
tis kā prabhū sōi hānh .
- God belongs to Him.
ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
antaragat bujhai hānh .
God knows the state of our innermost being.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਝੈ ਹਾਂ ॥
sabh kish tis sujhai hānh .
He knows everything.
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥
patit udhār lēh hānh .
Please, Lord, save the sinners.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਏਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੩॥੬॥੧੬੨॥
nānak aradās ēh mērē manā .3.6.162.
