Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਰੰਗੁ ਹਮ ਮੀਨ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
tū mērā tarang ham mīn tumārē .
You are my waves, and I am Your fish.
ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਮ ਤੇਰੈ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੧॥
tū mērā thākur ham tērai duārē .1.
You are my Lord and Master; I wait at Your Door. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਹਉ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
tūn mērā karatā hau sēvak tērā .
You are my Creator, and I am Your servant.
ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਨੀ ਗਹੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saran gahī prabh gunī gahērā .1. rahāu .
I have taken to Your Sanctuary, O God, most profound and excellent. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤੂ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
tū mērā jīvan tū ādhār .
You are my life, You are my Support.
ਤੁਝਹਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਕਉਲਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
tujhah pēkh bigasai kaulār .2.
Beholding You, my heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||
ਤੂ ਮੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਤੂ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
tū mērī gat pat tū paravān .
You are my salvation and honor; You make me acceptable.
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਮੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
tū samarath mai tērā tān .3.
You are All-powerful, You are my strength. ||3||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਪਉ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ॥
anadin japau nām gunatās .
Night and day, I chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the treasure of excellence.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੭੪॥
nānak kī prabh pah aradās .4.23.74.
This is Nanak's prayer to God. ||4||23||74||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੈ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਨਾ ॥
rōvanahārai jhūth kamānā .
The mourner practices falsehood;
ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਸੋਗੁ ਕਰਤ ਬੇਗਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
has has sōg karat bēgānā .1.
he laughs with glee, while mourning for others. ||1||
ਕੋ ਮੂਆ ਕਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਨੁ ॥
kō mūā kā kai ghar gāvan .
Someone has died, while there is singing in someone else's house.
ਕੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਕੋ ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਪਾਵਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kō rōvai kō has has pāvan .1. rahāu .
One mourns and bewails, while another laughs with glee. ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਲ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਧਾਨਾ ॥
bāl bivasathā tē biradhānā .
From childhood to old age,
ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਮੂਕਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੨॥
pahuch n mūkā phir pashutānā .2.
the mortal does not attain his goals, and he comes to regret in the end. ||2||
ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
trih gun mah varatai sansārā .
The world is under the influence of the three qualities.
ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
narak surag phir phir autārā .3.
The mortal is reincarnated, again and again, into heaven and hell. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਨਾਮ ॥
kah nānak jō lāiā nām .
Says Nanak, one who is attached to the Naam, the Name of the Lord,
ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਪਰਵਾਨ ॥੪॥੨੪॥੭੫॥
saphal janam tā kā paravān .4.24.75.
becomes acceptable, and his life becomes fruitful. ||4||24||75||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੋਇ ਰਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
sōi rahī prabh khabar n jānī .
She remains asleep, and does not know the news of God.
ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
bhōr bhaiā bahur pashutānī .1.
The day dawns, and then, she regrets. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਧਰਉ ਰੀ ॥
pri prēm sahaj man anad dharau rī .
Loving the Beloved, the mind is filled with celestial bliss.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਕੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਲਸੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh milabē kī lālasā tā tē ālas kahā karau rī .1. rahāu .
You yearn to meet with God, so why do you delay? ||1||Pause||
ਕਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥
kar mah anmrit ān nisāriō .
He came and poured His Ambrosial Nectar into your hands,
ਖਿਸਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਭੂਮ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥
khisar gaiō bhūm par dāriō .2.
but it slipped through your fingers, and fell onto the ground. ||2||
ਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਦੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ॥
sād mōh lādī ahankārē .
You are burdened with desire, emotional attachment and egotism;
ਦੋਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
dōs nāhī prabh karanaihārē .3.
it is not the fault of God the Creator. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਭਰਮ ਅੰਧਾਰੇ ॥
sādhasang mitē bharam andhārē .
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the darkness of doubt is dispelled.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨੫॥੭੬॥
nānak mēlī sirajanahārē .4.25.76.
O Nanak, the Creator Lord blends us with Himself. ||4||25||76||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
charan kamal kī ās piārē .
I long for the Lotus Feet of my Beloved Lord.
ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਨਸਿ ਗਏ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
jamakankar nas gaē vichārē .1.
The wretched Messenger of Death has run away from me. ||1||
ਤੂ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਇਆ ॥
tū chit āvah tērī maiā .
You enter into my mind, by Your Kind Mercy.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਸਗਲ ਰੋਗ ਖਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simarat nām sagal rōg khaiā .1. rahāu .
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all diseases are destroyed. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਿਕ ਦੂਖ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅਵਰਾ ਕਉ ॥
anik dūkh dēvah avarā kau .
Death gives so much pain to others,
ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਉ ॥੨॥
pahuch n sākah jan tērē kau .2.
but it cannot even come near Your slave. ||2||
ਦਰਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
daras tērē kī piās man lāgī .
My mind thirsts for Your Vision;
ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ਬਸੈ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੩॥
sahaj anand basai bairāgī .3.
in peaceful ease and bliss, I dwell in detachment. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ॥
nānak kī aradās sunījai .
Hear this prayer of Nanak:
ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੨੬॥੭੭॥
kēval nām ridē mah dījai .4.26.77.
please, infuse Your Name into his heart. ||4||26||77||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੋ ਮਿਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
man tripatānō mitē janjāl .
My mind is satisfied, and my entanglements have been dissolved.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੧॥
prabh apunā hōiā kirapāl .1.
God has become merciful to me. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਲੀ ਬਨੀ ॥
sant prasād bhalī banī .
By the Grace of the Saints, everything has turned out well.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸੋ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਧਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jā kai grih sabh kish hai pūran sō bhētiā nirabhai dhanī .1. rahāu .
His House is overflowing with all things; I have met Him, the Fearless Master. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਾਧ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
nām drirāiā sādh kripāl .
By the Kind Mercy of the Holy Saints, the Naam has been implanted within me.
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਭੂਖ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥੨॥
mit gaī bhūkh mahā bikarāl .2.
The most dreadful desires have been eliminated. ||2||
ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
thākur apunai kīnī dāt .
My Master has given me a gift;
ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥
jalan bujhī man hōī sānht .3.
the fire has been extinguished, and my mind is now at peace. ||3||
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਭਾਲ ਮਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
mit gaī bhāl man sahaj samānā .
My search has ended, and my mind is absorbed in celestial bliss.
