Aasaa, Fifth Mehl, Du-Padas:
ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥
bhaī parāpat mānukh dēhurīā .
You have been blessed with this human body.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
gōbind milan kī ih tērī barīā .
This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਾਜ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਕਾਮ ॥
avar kāj tērai kitai n kām .
Other efforts are of no use to you.
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
mil sādhasangat bhaj kēval nām .1.
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, vibrate and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਸਰੰਜਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਨ ਕੈ ॥
saranjām lāg bhavajal taran kai .
Make the effort, and cross over the terrifying world ocean.
ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam brithā jāt rang māiā kai .1. rahāu .
This human life is passing away in vain, in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jap tap sanjam dharam n kamāiā .
I have not practiced meditation, penance, self-restraint or righteous living;
ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
sēvā sādh n jāniā har rāiā .
I have not served the Holy Saints, and I do not know the Lord, my King.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥
kah nānak ham nīch karanmā .
Says Nanak, my actions are vile and despicable;
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਮਾ ॥੨॥੨੯॥
saran parē kī rākhah saramā .2.29.
O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary - please, preserve my honor. ||2||29||

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tujh bin avar nāhī mai dūjā tūn mērē man māhī .
Without You, there is no other for me; You alone are in my mind.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
tūn sājan sangī prabh mērā kāhē jī darāhī .1.
You are my Friend and Companion, God; why should my soul be afraid? ||1||
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਆਸਾ ॥
tumarī ōt tumārī āsā .
You are my support, You are my hope.
ਬੈਠਤ ਊਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baithat ūthat sōvat jāgat visar nāhī tūn sās girāsā .1. rahāu .
While sitting down or standing up, while sleeping or waking, with every breath and morsel of food, I never forget You. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਕਰਾਲਾ ॥
rākh rākh saran prabh apanī agan sāgar vikarālā .
Protect me, please protect me, O God; I have come to Your Sanctuary; the ocean of fire is so horrible.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੩੦॥
nānak kē sukhadātē satigur ham tumarē bāl gupālā .2.30.
The True Guru is the Giver of peace to Nanak; I am Your child, O Lord of the World. ||2||30||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਲੀਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
har jan līnē prabhū shadāi .
The Lord God has saved me, His slave.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾਪੁ ਮੁਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prītam siu mērō man māniā tāp muā bikh khāi .1. rahāu .
My mind has surrendered to my Beloved; my fever has taken poison and died. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਲਾ ਤਾਊ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
pālā tāū kashū n biāpai rām nām gun gāi .
Cold and heat do not touch me at all, when I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਡਾਕੀ ਕੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥੧॥
dākī kō chit kashū n lāgai charan kamal saranāi .1.
My consciousness is not affected by the witch, Maya; I take to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਹੋਏ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
sant prasād bhaē kirapālā hōē āp sahāi .
By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord has shown His Mercy to me; He Himself is my Help and Support.
ਗੁਨ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਿਤਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੨॥੩੧॥
gun nidhān nit gāvai nānak sahasā dukh mitāi .2.31.
Nanak ever sings the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of excellence; his doubts and pains are eliminated. ||2||31||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਉਖਧੁ ਖਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
aukhadh khāiō har kō nāu .
I have taken the medicine of the Name of the Lord.
ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
sukh pāē dukh binasiā thāu .1.
I have found peace, and the seat of pain has been removed. ||1||
ਤਾਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਚਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
tāp gaiā bachan gur pūrē .
The fever has been broken, by the Teachings of the Perfect Guru.
ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anad bhaiā sabh mitē visūrē .1. rahāu .
I am in ecstasy, and all of my sorrows have been dispelled. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jī jant sagal sukh pāiā .
All beings and creatures obtain peace,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੨॥੩੨॥
pārabraham nānak man dhiāiā .2.32.
O Nanak, meditating on the Supreme Lord God. ||2||32||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਾਂਛਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥
bānhshat nāhī s bēlā āī .
That time, which the mortal does not wish for, eventually comes.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਕਿਉ ਬੁਝੈ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥
bin hukamai kiu bujhai bujhāī .1.
Without the Lord's Command, how can understanding be understood? ||1||
ਠੰਢੀ ਤਾਤੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਖਾਈ ॥
thandhī tātī mitī khāī .
The body is consumed by water, fire and earth.
ਓਹੁ ਨ ਬਾਲਾ ਬੂਢਾ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ōh n bālā būdhā bhāī .1. rahāu .
But the soul is neither young nor old, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
nānak dās sādh saranāī .
Servant Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Holy.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਉ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੨॥੩੩॥
gur prasād bhau pār parāī .2.33.
By Guru's Grace, he has shaken off the fear of death. ||2||33||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
sadā sadā ātam paragās .
Forever and ever, the soul is illumined;
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
sādhasangat har charan nivās .1.
in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, it dwells at the Feet of the Lord. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਤਿ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
rām nām nit jap man mērē .
Chant the Lord's Name each and every day, O my mind.
ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹਿ ਸਭੇ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sītal sānht sadā sukh pāvah kilavikh jāh sabhē man tērē .1. rahāu .
You shall find lasting peace, contentment and tranquility, and all your sins shall depart. ||1||Pause||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥
kah nānak jā kē pūran karam .
Says Nanak, one who is blessed with perfect good karma,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੨॥੩੪॥
satigur bhētē pūran pārabraham .2.34.
meets the True Guru, and obtains the Perfect Supreme Lord God. ||2||34||

dūjē ghar kē chautīs .
