ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
sō būjhai jis āp bujhāē .
He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself inspires to understand.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥
gur parasādī sēv karāē .1.
By Guru's Grace, one serves Him. ||1||
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
giān ratan sabh sōjhī hōi .
With the jewel of spiritual wisdom, total understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasād agiān bināsai anadin jāgai vēkhai sach sōi .1. rahāu .
By Guru's Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
mōh gumān gur sabad jalāē .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attachment and pride are burnt away.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
pūrē gur tē sōjhī pāē .
From the Perfect Guru, true understanding is obtained.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
antar mahal gur sabad pashānai .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one realizes the Lord's Presence within.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੨॥
āvan jān rahai thir nām samānē .2.
Then, one's coming and going cease, and one becomes stable, absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
janman maranā hai sansār .
The world is tied to birth and death.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
manamukh achēt māiā mōh gubār .
The unconscious, self-willed manmukh is enveloped in the darkness of Maya and emotional attachment.
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
par nindā bah kūr kamāvai .
He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood.
ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
visatā kā kīrā visatā māh samāvai .3.
He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
satasangat mil sabh sōjhī pāē .
Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, total understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
gur kā sabad har bhagat drirāē .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted.
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhānā mannē sadā sukh hōi .
One who surrenders to the Lord's Will is peaceful forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥
nānak sach samāvai sōi .4.10.49.
O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ ॥
āsā mahalā 3 panchapadē .
Aasaa, Third Mehl, Panch-Padas:
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
sabad marai tis sadā anand .
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, finds eternal bliss.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
satigur bhētē gur gōbind .
He is united with the True Guru, the Guru, the Lord God.
ਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
nā phir marai n āvai jāi .
He does not die any more, and he does not come or go.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
pūrē gur tē sāch samāi .1.
Through the Perfect Guru, he merges with the True Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
jinh kau nām likhiā dhur lēkh .
One who has the Naam, the Name of the Lord, written in his pre-ordained destiny,
ਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tē anadin nām sadā dhiāvah gur pūrē tē bhagat visēkh .1. rahāu .
night and day, meditates forever on the Naam; he obtains the wondrous blessing of devotional love from the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jinh kau har prabh laē milāi .
Those, whom the Lord God has blended with Himself
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tinh kī gahan gat kahī n jāi .
- their Sublime state cannot be described.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਿਤੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
pūrai satigur ditī vadiāī .
The Perfect True Guru has given the Glorious Greatness,
ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
ūtam padavī har nām samāī .2.
of the most exalted order, and I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
jō kish karē s āpē āp .
Whatever the Lord does, He does all by Himself.
ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥
ēk gharī mah thāp uthāp .
In an instant, He establishes, and disestablishes.
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਘਾਲੇ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
kah kah kahanā ākh sunāē . jē sau ghālē thāi n pāē .3.
By merely speaking, talking, shouting and preaching about the Lord, even hundreds of times, the mortal is not approved. ||3||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jinh kai pōtai punn tinhā gurū milāē .
The Guru meets with those, who take virtue as their treasure;
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
sach bānī gur sabad sunāē .
they listen to the True Word of the Guru's Bani, the Shabad.
ਜਹਾਂ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਤਹਾਂ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
jahānh sabad vasai tahānh dukh jāē .
Pain departs, from that place where the Shabad abides.
ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥
giān ratan sāchai sahaj samāē .4.
By the jewel of spiritual wisdom, one is easily absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||
ਨਾਵੈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
nāvai jēvad hōr dhan nāhī kōi .
No other wealth is as great as the Naam.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis nō bakhasē sāchā sōi .
It is bestowed only by the True Lord.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
pūrai sabad mann vasāē .
Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, it abides in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥
nānak nām ratē sukh pāē .5.11.50.
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, peace is obtained. ||5||11||50||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
āsā mahalā 3 .
Aasaa, Third Mehl:
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
nirat karē bah vājē vajāē .
One may dance and play numerous instruments;
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
ih man andhā bōlā hai kis ākh sunāē .
but this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching?
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ॥
antar lōbh bharam anal vāu .
Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt.
ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
dīvā balai n sōjhī pāi .1.
The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
guramukh bhagat ghat chānan hōi .
The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
āp pashān milai prabh sōi .1. rahāu .
Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
guramukh nirat har lāgai bhāu .
The Gurmukh's dance is to embrace love for the Lord;
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
pūrē tāl vichah āp gavāi .
to the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
mērā prabh sāchā āpē jān .
My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabad antar braham pashān .2.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh bhagat antar prīt piār .
The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur kā sabad sahaj vīchār .
He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
guramukh bhagat jugat sach sōi .
For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
pākhand bhagat nirat dukh hōi .3.
But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||
