ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਚਖਿਆ ਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਆਘਾਈ ॥
sach sachā ras jinī chakhiā sē tripat rahē āghāī .
Those who have tasted the true essence of the True Lord, remain satisfied and fulfilled.
ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸੇਈ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਜਿਉ ਗੂੰਗੈ ਮਿਠਿਆਈ ਖਾਈ ॥
ih har ras sēī jānadē jiu gūngai mithiāī khāī .
They know this essence of the Lord, but they say nothing, like the mute who tastes the sweet candy, and says nothing.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥੧੮॥
gur pūrai har prabh sēviā man vajī vādhāī .18.
The Perfect Guru serves the Lord God; His vibration vibrates and resounds in the mind. ||18||

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਉਮਰਥਲ ਸੇਈ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਸੂਲੀਆ ॥
jinā andar umarathal sēī jānan sūlīā .
Those who have a festering boil within - they alone know its pain.
ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਸਦ ਘੁਮਿ ਘੋਲੀਆ ॥
har jānah sēī birah hau tin vitah sad ghum ghōlīā .
Those who know the pain of separation from the Lord - I am forever a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them.
ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਿਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਤਲ ਰੋਲੀਆ ॥
har mēlah sajan purakh mērā sir tin vitah tal rōlīā .
O Lord, please lead me to meet the Guru, the Primal Being, my Friend; my head shall roll in the dust under His feet.
ਜੋ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਰ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹਉ ਗੁਲਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਗੋਲੀਆ ॥
jō sikh gur kār kamāvah hau gulam tinā kā gōlīā .
I am the slave of the slaves of those GurSikhs who serve Him.
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਭਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚੋਲੀਆ ॥
har rang chalūlai jō ratē tin bhinī har rang chōlīā .
Those who are imbued with the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love - their robes are drenched in the Love of the Lord.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿਆ ਮੋਲੀਆ ॥੧॥
kar kirapā nānak mēl gur pah sir vēchiā mōlīā .1.
Grant Your Grace, and lead Nanak to meet the Guru; I have sold my head to Him. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਅਉਗਣੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
auganī bhariā sarīr hai kiu santah niramal hōi .
The body is full of mistakes and misdeeds; how can it become pure, O Saints?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਵੇਹਾਝੀਅਹਿ ਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥
guramukh gun vēhājhīah mal haumai kadhai dhōi .
The Gurmukh purchases virtues, which wash off the sin of egotism.
ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
sach vananjah rang siu sach saudā hōi .
True is the trade which purchases the True Lord with love.
ਤੋਟਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
tōtā mūl n āvaī lāhā har bhāvai sōi .
No loss will come from this, and the profit comes by the Lord's Will.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਿਆ ਜਿਨਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
nānak tin sach vananjiā jinā dhur likhiā parāpat hōi .2.
O Nanak, they alone purchase the Truth, who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ॥
sālāhī sach sālāhanā sach sachā purakh nirālē .
I praise the True One, who alone is worthy of praise. The True Primal Being is True - this is His unique quality.
ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ॥
sach sēvī sach man vasai sach sachā har rakhavālē .
Serving the True Lord, the Truth comes to dwell in the mind. The Lord, the Truest of the True, is my Protector.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਸੇ ਜਾਇ ਰਲੇ ਸਚ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
sach sachā jinī arādhiā sē jāi ralē sach nālē .
Those who worship and adore the Truest of the True, shall go and merge with the True Lord.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂੜ ਬੇਤਾਲੇ ॥
sach sachā jinī n sēviā sē manamukh mūr bētālē .
Those who do not serve the Truest of the True - those self-willed manmukhs are foolish demons.
ਓਹ ਆਲੁ ਪਤਾਲੁ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਜਿਉ ਪੀਤੈ ਮਦਿ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ॥੧੯॥
ōh āl patāl muhah bōladē jiu pītai mad matavālē .19.
With their mouths, they babble on about this and that, like the drunkard who has drunk his wine. ||19||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਗਉੜੀ ਰਾਗਿ ਸੁਲਖਣੀ ਜੇ ਖਸਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
gaurī rāg sulakhanī jē khasamai chit karēi .
Gauree Raga is auspicious, if, through it, one comes to think of his Lord and Master.
ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੈ ਐਸਾ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
bhānai chalai satigurū kai aisā sīgār karēi .
He should walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru; this should be his decoration.
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵੇਇ ॥
sachā sabad bhatār hai sadā sadā rāvēi .
The True Word of the Shabad is our spouse; ravish and enjoy it, forever and ever.
ਜਿਉ ਉਬਲੀ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਗਹਗਹਾ ਤਿਉ ਸਚੇ ਨੋ ਜੀਉ ਦੇਇ ॥
jiu ubalī majīthai rang gahagahā tiu sachē nō jīu dēi .
Like the deep crimson color of the madder plant - such is the dye which shall color you, when you dedicate your soul to the True One.
ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਅਤਿ ਰਤੀ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਗਾ ਨੇਹੁ ॥
rang chalūlai at ratī sachē siu lagā nēh .
One who loves the True Lord is totally imbued with the Lord's Love, like the deep crimson color of the poppy.
ਕੂੜੁ ਠਗੀ ਗੁਝੀ ਨਾ ਰਹੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਮੁਲੰਮਾ ਪਲੇਟਿ ਧਰੇਹੁ ॥
kūr thagī gujhī nā rahai kūr mulanmā palēt dharēh .
Falsehood and deception may be covered with false coatings, but they cannot remain hidden.
ਕੂੜੀ ਕਰਨਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਕੂੜੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਗਾ ਨੇਹੁ ॥
kūrī karan vadāīā kūrē siu lagā nēh .
False is the uttering of praises, by those who love falsehood.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
nānak sachā āp hai āpē nadar karēi .1.
O Nanak, He alone is True; He Himself casts His Glance of Grace. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
satasangat mah har usatat hai sang sādhū milē piāriā .
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Lord's Praises are sung. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Beloved Lord is met.
ਓਇ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨ ਹਹਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
ōi purakh prānī dhann jan hah upadēs karah paraupakāriā .
Blessed is that mortal being, who shares the Teachings for the good of others.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਜਗੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
har nām drirāvah har nām sunāvah har nāmē jag nisatāriā .
He implants the Name of the Lord, and he preaches the Name of the Lord; through the Name of the Lord, the world is saved.
ਗੁਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਕਉ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਲੋਚੈ ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਜਗਤਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
gur vēkhan kau sabh kōī lōchai nav khand jagat namasakāriā .
Everyone longs to see the Guru; the world, and the nine continents, bow down to Him.
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
tudh āpē āp rakhiā satigur vich gur āpē tudh savāriā .
You Yourself have established the True Guru; You Yourself have adorned the Guru.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
tū āpē pūjah pūj karāvah satigur kau sirajanahāriā .
You Yourself worship and adore the True Guru; You inspire others to worship Him as well, O Creator Lord.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਮੁਹੁ ਜਮਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
kōī vishur jāi satigurū pāsah tis kālā muh jam māriā .
If someone separates himself from the True Guru, his face is blackened, and he is destroyed by the Messenger of Death.
