ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur dātā jī jīan kō bhāgahīn nahī bhāvaigō .
The True Guru is the Giver of the life of the soul, but the unfortunate ones do not love Him.
ਫਿਰਿ ਏਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪਰਤਾਪੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
phir ēh vēlā hāth n āvai paratāpai pashutāvaigō .7.
This opportunity shall not come into their hands again; in the end, they will suffer in torment and regret. ||7||
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਭਲਾ ਲੋੜੈ ਭਲ ਅਪਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਢਹਿ ਢਹਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jē kō bhalā lōrai bhal apanā gur āgai dhah dhah pāvaigō .
If a good person seeks goodness for himself, he should bow low in humble surrender to the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੩॥
nānak daiā daiā kar thākur mai satigur bhasam lagāvaigō .8.3.
Nanak prays: please show kindness and compassion to me, O my Lord and Master, that I may apply the dust of the True Guru to my forehead. ||8||3||

Kaanraa, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
man har rang rātā gāvaigō .
O mind, be attuned to His Love, and sing.
ਭੈ ਭੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhai bhai trās bhaē hai niramal guramat lāg lagāvaigō .1. rahāu .
The Fear of God makes me fearless and immaculate; I am dyed in the color of the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
har rang rātā sad bairāgī har nikat tinā ghar āvaigō .
Those who are attuned to the Lord's Love remain balanced and detached forever; they live near the Lord, who comes into their house.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੰਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
tin kī pank milai tānh jīvā kar kirapā āp divāvaigō .1.
If I am blessed with the dust of their feet, then I live. Granting His Grace, He Himself bestows it. ||1||
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲੋਭਿ ਲਗੇ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
dubidhā lōbh lagē hai prānī man kōrai rang n āvaigō .
Mortal beings are attached to greed and duality. Their minds are unripe and unfit, and will not accept the Dye of His Love.
ਫਿਰਿ ਉਲਟਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
phir ulatiō janam hōvai gur bachanī gur purakh milai rang lāvaigō .2.
But their lives are transformed through the Word of the Guru's Teachings. Meeting with the Guru, the Primal Being, they are dyed in the color of His Love. ||2||
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਦਸੇ ਦਸੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਾਵਤ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣੀਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਟਿਕਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
indrī dasē dasē phun dhāvat trai gunīā khin n tikāvaigō .
There are ten organs of sense and action; the ten wander unrestrained. Under the influence of the three dispositions, they are not stable, even for an instant.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
satigur parachai vasagat āvai mōkh mukat sō pāvaigō .3.
Coming in contact with the True Guru, they are brought under control; then, salvation and liberation are attained. ||3||
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਏਕਸ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
ōankār ēkō rav rahiā sabh ēkas māh samāvaigō .
The One and Only Creator of the Universe is All-pervading everywhere. All shall once again merge into the One.
ਏਕੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਏਕੋ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕਤੁ ਬਚਨਿ ਚਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
ēkō rūp ēkō bah rangī sabh ēkat bachan chalāvaigō .4.
His One Form has one, and many colors; He leads all according to His One Word. ||4||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਲਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
guramukh ēkō ēk pashātā guramukh hōi lakhāvaigō .
The Gurmukh realizes the One and Only Lord; He is revealed to the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਜ ਮਹਲੀ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਬਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
guramukh jāi milai nij mahalī anahad sabad bajāvaigō .5.
The Gurmukh goes and meets the Lord in His Mansion deep within; the Unstruck Word of the Shabad vibrates there. ||5||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jī jant sabh sisat upāī guramukh sōbhā pāvaigō .
God created all the beings and creatures of the universe; He blesses the Gurmukh with glory.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੋ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
bin gur bhētē kō mahal n pāvai āi jāi dukh pāvaigō .6.
Without meeting the Guru, no one obtains the Mansion of His Presence. They suffer the agony of coming and going in reincarnation. ||6||
ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
anēk janam vishurē mērē prītam kar kirapā gurū milāvaigō .
For countless lifetimes, I have been separated from my Beloved; in His Mercy, the Guru has united me with Him.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਤ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਮਲੀਨ ਬਿਗਸਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
satigur milat mahā sukh pāiā mat malīn bigasāvaigō .7.
Meeting the True Guru, I have found absolute peace, and my polluted intellect blossoms forth. ||7||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਮੈ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
har har kripā karah jagajīvan mai saradhā nām lagāvaigō .
O Lord, Har, Har, please grant Your Grace; O Life of the World, instill faith in the Naam within me.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੪॥
nānak gurū gurū hai satigur mai satigur saran milāvaigō .8.4.
Nanak is the Guru, the Guru, the True Guru; I am immersed in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||8||4||

Kaanraa, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਚਾਲ ਚਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
man guramat chāl chalāvaigō .
O mind, walk on the Path of the Guru's Teachings.
ਜਿਉ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਮਸਤੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਤਲਿ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jiu maigal masat dījai tal kundē gur ankas sabad drirāvaigō .1. rahāu .
Just as the wild elephant is subdued by the prod, the mind is disciplined by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਚਲਤੌ ਚਲੈ ਚਲੈ ਦਹ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
chalatau chalai chalai dah dah dis gur rākhai har liv lāvaigō .
The wandering mind wanders, roams and rambles in the ten directions; but the Guru holds it, and lovingly attunes it to the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦੇਇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੁਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
satigur sabad dēi rid antar mukh anmrit nām chuāvaigō .1.
The True Guru implants the Word of the Shabad deep within the heart; the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, trickles into the mouth. ||1||
ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਬਿਸੂ ਭਰੇ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗਰੁੜ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
bisīar bisū bharē hai pūran gur garur sabad mukh pāvaigō .
The snakes are filled with poisonous venom; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the antidote - place it in your mouth.
ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਇਅੰਗ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਝਾਰਿ ਝਾਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
māiā bhuiang tis nēr n āvai bikh jhār jhār liv lāvaigō .2.
Maya, the serpent, does not even approach one who is rid of the poison, and lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||2||
ਸੁਆਨੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
suān lōbh nagar mah sabalā gur khin mah mār kadhāvaigō .
The dog of greed is very powerful in the village of the body; the Guru strikes it and drives it out in an instant.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਆਨਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਗਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
sat santōkh dharam ān rākhē har nagarī har gun gāvaigō .3.
Truth, contentment, righteousness and Dharma have settled there; in the village of the Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
