ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh chaurāsīh jī upāē .
He created the 8.4 million species of beings.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jis nō nadar karē tis gurū milāē .
Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, come to meet the Guru.
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kilabikh kāt sadā jan niramal dar sachai nām suhāvaniā .6.
Shedding their sins, His servants are forever pure; at the True Court, they are beautified by the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||6||
ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਨਿ ਦੀਐ ॥
lēkhā māgai tā kin dīai .
When they are called to settle their accounts, who will answer then?
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਦੂਐ ਤੀਐ ॥
sukh nāhī phun dūai tīai .
There shall be no peace then, from counting out by twos and threes.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
āpē bakhas laē prabh sāchā āpē bakhas milāvaniā .7.
The True Lord God Himself forgives, and having forgiven, He unites them with Himself. ||7||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
āp karē tai āp karāē .
He Himself does, and He Himself causes all to be done.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
pūrē gur kai sabad milāē .
Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, He is met.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੩॥
nānak nām milai vadiāī āpē mēl milāvaniā .8.2.3.
O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. He Himself unites in His Union. ||8||2||3||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mājh mahalā 3 .
Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥
ikō āp phirai parashannā .
The One Lord Himself moves about imperceptibly.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥
guramukh vēkhā tā ih man bhinnā .
As Gurmukh, I see Him, and then this mind is pleased and uplifted.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
trisanā taj sahaj sukh pāiā ēkō mann vasāvaniā .1.
Renouncing desire, I have found intuitive peace and poise; I have enshrined the One within my mind. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī ikas siu chit lāvaniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the One.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramatī man ikat ghar āiā sachai rang rangāvaniā .1. rahāu .
Through the Guru's Teachings, my mind has come to its only home; it is imbued with the True Color of the Lord's Love. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਤੈਂ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
ih jag bhūlā tainh āp bhulāiā .
This world is deluded; You Yourself have deluded it.
ਇਕੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥
ik visār dūjai lōbhāiā .
Forgetting the One, it has become engrossed in duality.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
anadin sadā phirai bhram bhūlā bin nāvai dukh pāvaniā .2.
Night and day, it wanders around endlessly, deluded by doubt; without the Name, it suffers in pain. ||2||
ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
jō rang rātē karam bidhātē .
Those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord, the Architect of Destiny
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤੇ ॥
gur sēvā tē jug chārē jātē .
-by serving the Guru, they are known throughout the four ages.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
jis nō āp dēi vadiāī har kai nām samāvaniā .3.
Those, upon whom the Lord bestows greatness, are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
māiā mōh har chētai nāhī .
Being in love with Maya, they do not think of the Lord.
ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹੀ ॥
jamapur badhā dukh sahāhī .
Bound and gagged in the City of Death, they suffer in terrible pain.
ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
annā bōlā kish nadar n āvai manamukh pāp pachāvaniā .4.
Blind and deaf, they see nothing at all; the self-willed manmukhs rot away in sin. ||4||
ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
ik rang rātē jō tudh āp liv lāē .
Those, whom You attach to Your Love, are attuned to Your Love.
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
bhāi bhagat tērai man bhāē .
Through loving devotional worship, they become pleasing to Your Mind.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਇਛਾ ਆਪਿ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
satigur sēvan sadā sukhadātā sabh ishā āp pujāvaniā .5.
They serve the True Guru, the Giver of eternal peace, and all their desires are fulfilled. ||5||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
har jīu tērī sadā saranāī .
O Dear Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary forever.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
āpē bakhasih dē vadiāī .
You Yourself forgive us, and bless us with Glorious Greatness.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
jamakāl tis nēr n āvai jō har har nām dhiāvaniā .6.
The Messenger of Death does not draw near those who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||6||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
anadin rātē jō har bhāē .
Night and day, they are attuned to His Love; they are pleasing to the Lord.
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
mērai prabh mēlē mēl milāē .
My God merges with them, and unites them in Union.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sadā sadā sachē tērī saranāī tūn āpē sach bujhāvaniā .7.
Forever and ever, O True Lord, I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary; You Yourself inspire us to understand the Truth. ||7||
ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥
jin sach jātā sē sach samānē .
Those who know the Truth are absorbed in Truth.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
har gun gāvah sach vakhānē .
They sing the Lord's Glorious Praises, and speak the Truth.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੪॥
nānak nām ratē bairāgī nij ghar tārī lāvaniā .8.3.4.
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain unattached and balanced; in the home of the inner self, they are absorbed in the primal trance of deep meditation. ||8||3||4||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mājh mahalā 3 .
Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
sabad marai s muā jāpai .
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad is truly dead.
ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
kāl n chāpai dukh n santāpai .
Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him.
ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
jōtī vich mil jōt samānī sun man sach samāvaniā .1.
His light merges and is absorbed into the Light, when he hears and merges in the Truth. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī har kai nāi sōbhā pāvaniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Lord's Name, which brings us to glory.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur sēv sach chit lāiā guramatī sahaj samāvaniā .1. rahāu .
One who serves the True Guru, and focuses his consciousness on Truth, following the Guru's Teachings, is absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਚੀ ਕਚਾ ਚੀਰੁ ਹੰਢਾਏ ॥
kāiā kachī kachā chīr handhāē .
This human body is transitory, and transitory are the garments it wears.
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
dūjai lāgī mahal n pāē .
Attached to duality, no one attains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
