ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

Center your awareness on seva-selfless service-and focus your consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
haumai mār sadā sukh pāiā māiā mōh chukāvaniā .1.
Subduing your ego, you shall find a lasting peace, and your emotional attachment to Maya will be dispelled. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī satigur kai balihāraniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, I am totally devoted to the True Guru.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਜੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramatī paragās hōā jī anadin har gun gāvaniā .1. rahāu .
Through the Guru's Teachings, the Divine Light has dawned; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
tan man khōjē tā nāu pāē .
Search your body and mind, and find the Name.
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
dhāvat rākhai thāk rahāē .
Restrain your wandering mind, and keep it in check.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gur kī bānī anadin gāvai sahajē bhagat karāvaniā .2.
Night and day, sing the Songs of the Guru's Bani; worship the Lord with intuitive devotion. ||2||
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਸੰਖਾ ॥
is kāiā andar vasat asankhā .
Within this body are countless objects.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵੇਖਾ ॥
guramukh sāch milai tā vēkhā .
The Gurmukh attains Truth, and comes to see them.
ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਦਸਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
nau daravājē dasavai mukatā anahad sabad vajāvaniā .3.
Beyond the nine gates, the Tenth Gate is found, and liberation is obtained. The Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates. ||3||
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
sachā sāhib sachī nāī .
True is the Master, and True is His Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
gur parasādī mann vasāī .
By Guru's Grace, He comes to dwell within the mind.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anadin sadā rahai rang rātā dar sachai sōjhī pāvaniā .4.
Night and day, remain attuned to the Lord's Love forever, and you shall obtain understanding in the True Court. ||4||
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
pāp punn kī sār n jānī .
Those who do not understand the nature of sin and virtue
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥
dūjai lāgī bharam bhulānī .
are attached to duality; they wander around deluded.
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
agiānī andhā mag n jānai phir phir āvan jāvaniā .5.
The ignorant and blind people do not know the way; they come and go in reincarnation over and over again. ||5||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur sēvā tē sadā sukh pāiā .
Serving the Guru, I have found eternal peace;
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
haumai mērā thāk rahāiā .
my ego has been silenced and subdued.
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gur sākhī mitiā andhiārā bajar kapāt khulāvaniā .6.
Through the Guru's Teachings, the darkness has been dispelled, and the heavy doors have been opened. ||6||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
haumai mār mann vasāiā .
Subduing my ego, I have enshrined the Lord within my mind.
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
gur charanī sadā chit lāiā .
I focus my consciousness on the Guru's Feet forever.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
gur kirapā tē man tan niramal niramal nām dhiāvaniā .7.
By Guru's Grace, my mind and body are immaculate and pure; I meditate on the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7||
ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
jīvan maranā sabh tudhai tāī .
From birth to death, everything is for You.
ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jis bakhasē tis dē vadiāī .
You bestow greatness upon those whom You have forgiven.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥
nānak nām dhiāi sadā tūn janman maran savāraniā .8.1.2.
O Nanak, meditating forever on the Naam, you shall be blessed in both birth and death. ||8||1||2||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mājh mahalā 3 .
Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
mērā prabh niramal agam apārā .
My God is Immaculate, Inaccessible and Infinite.
ਬਿਨੁ ਤਕੜੀ ਤੋਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
bin takarī tōlai sansārā .
Without a scale, He weighs the universe.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
guramukh hōvai sōī būjhai gun kah gunī samāvaniā .1.
One who becomes Gurmukh, understands. Chanting His Glorious Praises, he is absorbed into the Lord of Virtue. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī har kā nām mann vasāvaniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those whose minds are filled with the Name of the Lord.
ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jō sach lāgē sē anadin jāgē dar sachai sōbhā pāvaniā .1. rahāu .
Those who are committed to Truth remain awake and aware night and day. They are honored in the True Court. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣੈ ਤੈ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
āp sunai tai āpē vēkhai .
He Himself hears, and He Himself sees.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
jis nō nadar karē sōī jan lēkhai .
Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, become acceptable.
ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
āpē lāi laē sō lāgai guramukh sach kamāvaniā .2.
They are attached, whom the Lord Himself attaches; as Gurmukh, they live the Truth. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਥੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis āp bhulāē s kithai hath pāē .
Those whom the Lord Himself misleads-whose hand can they take?
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
pūrab likhiā s mētanā n jāē .
That which is pre-ordained, cannot be erased.
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
jin satigur miliā sē vadabhāgī pūrai karam milāvaniā .3.
Those who meet the True Guru are very fortunate and blessed; through perfect karma, He is met. ||3||
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਧਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਤੀ ॥
pēīarai dhan anadin sutī .
The young bride is fast asleep in her parents' home, night and day.
ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਤੀ ॥
kant visārī avagan mutī .
She has forgotten her Husband Lord; because of her faults and demerits, she is abandoned.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anadin sadā phirai bilalādī bin pir nīd n pāvaniā .4.
She wanders around continually, crying out, night and day. Without her Husband Lord, she cannot get any sleep. ||4||
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
pēīarai sukhadātā jātā .
In this world of her parents' home, she may come to know the Giver of peace,
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
haumai mār gur sabad pashātā .
if she subdues her ego, and recognizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sēj suhāvī sadā pir rāvē sach sīgār banāvaniā .5.
Her bed is beautiful; she ravishes and enjoys her Husband Lord forever. She is adorned with the Decorations of Truth. ||5||
