ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
guramukh nām samāi samāvai nānak nām dhiāī hē .12.
The Gurmukh is immersed and absorbed in the Naam; Nanak meditates on the Naam. ||12||
ਭਗਤਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
bhagatā mukh anmrit hai bānī .
The Ambrosial Nectar of the Guru's Bani is in the mouth of the devotees.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
guramukh har nām ākh vakhānī .
The Gurmukhs chant and repeat the Lord's Name.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
har har karat sadā man bigasai har charanī man lāī hē .13.
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, their minds forever blossom forth; they focus their minds on the Lord's Feet. ||13||
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
ham mūrakh agiān giān kish nāhī .
I am foolish and ignorant; I have no wisdom at all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਪੜੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
satigur tē samajh parī man māhī .
From the True Guru, I have obtained understanding in my mind.
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
hōh daiāl kripā kar har jīu satigur kī sēvā lāī hē .14.
O Dear Lord, please be kind to me, and grant Your Grace; let me be committed to serving the True Guru. ||14||
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jin satigur jātā tin ēk pashātā .
Those who know the True Guru realize the One Lord.
ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
sarabē rav rahiā sukhadātā .
The Giver of peace is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
ātam chīn param pad pāiā sēvā surat samāī hē .15.
Understanding my own soul, I have obtained the Supreme Status; my awareness is immersed in selfless service. ||15||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਦਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jin kau ād milī vadiāī .
Those who are blessed with glorious greatness by the Primal Lord God
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
satigur man vasiā liv lāī .
are lovingly focused on the True Guru, who dwells within their minds.
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥
āp miliā jagajīvan dātā nānak ank samāī hē .16.1.
The Giver of life to the world Himself meets them; O Nanak, they are absorbed in His Being. ||16||1||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
mārū mahalā 4 .
Maaroo, Fourth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
har agam agōchar sadā abināsī .
The Lord is inaccessible and unfathomable; He is eternal and imperishable.
ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ॥
sarabē rav rahiā ghat vāsī .
He dwells in the heart, and is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
tis bin avar n kōī dātā har tisah sarēvah prānī hē .1.
There is no other Giver except Him; worship the Lord, O mortals. ||1||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਾਕਸਿ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
jā kau rākhai har rākhanahārā . tā kau kōi n sākas mārā .
No one can kill anyone who is saved by the Savior Lord.
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
sō aisā har sēvah santah jā kī ūtam bānī hē .2.
So serve such a Lord, O Saints, whose Bani is exalted and sublime. ||2||
ਜਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jā jāpai kish kithāū nāhī .
When it seems that a place is empty and void,
ਤਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥
tā karatā bharapūr samāhī .
there, the Creator Lord is permeating and pervading.
ਸੂਕੇ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
sūkē tē phun hariā kītōn har dhiāvah chōj vidānī hē .3.
He causes the dried-up branch to blossom forth in greenery again; so meditate on the Lord - wondrous are His ways! ||3||
ਜੋ ਜੀਆ ਕੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jō jīā kī vēdan jānai .
The One who knows the anguish of all beings
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ॥
tis sāhib kai hau kurabānai .
- unto that Lord and Master, I am a sacrifice.
ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
tis āgai jan kar bēnantī jō sarab sukhā kā dānī hē .4.
Offer your prayers to the One who is the Giver of all peace and joy. ||4||
ਜੋ ਜੀਐ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jō jīai kī sār n jānai .
But one who does not know the state of the soul
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੀਐ ਅਜਾਣੈ ॥
tis siu kish n kahīai ajānai .
- do not say anything to such an ignorant person.
ਮੂਰਖ ਸਿਉ ਨਹ ਲੂਝੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
mūrakh siu nah lūjh parānī har japīai pad nirabānī hē .5.
Do not argue with fools, O mortals. Meditate on the Lord, in the state of Nirvaanaa. ||5||
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
nā kar chint chintā hai karatē .
Don't worry - let the Creator take care of it.
ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਸਭਤੈ ॥
har dēvai jal thal jantā sabhatai .
The Lord gives to all creatures in the water and on the land.
ਅਚਿੰਤ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਟ ਪਖਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
achint dān dēi prabh mērā vich pāthar kīt pakhānī hē .6.
My God bestows His blessings without being asked, even to worms in soil and stones. ||6||
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ॥
nā kar ās mīt sut bhāī .
Do not place your hopes in friends, children and siblings.
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਕਿਸੈ ਸਾਹ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
nā kar ās kisai sāh biuhār kī parāī .
Do not place your hopes in kings or the business of others.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
bin har nāvai kō bēlī nāhī har japīai sārangapānī hē .7.
Without the Lord's Name, no one will be your helper; so meditate on the Lord, the Lord of the world. ||7||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
anadin nām japah banavārī .
Night and day, chant the Naam.
ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਥਾਰੀ ॥
sabh āsā manasā pūrai thārī .
All your hopes and desires shall be fulfilled.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jan nānak nām japah bhav khandan sukh sahajē rain vihānī hē .8.
O servant Nanak, chant the Naam, the Name of the Destroyer of fear, and your life-night shall pass in intuitive peace and poise. ||8||
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin har sēviā tin sukh pāiā .
Those who serve the Lord find peace.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
sahajē hī har nām samāiā .
They are intuitively absorbed in the Lord's Name.
ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਾਇ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
jō saran parai tis kī pat rākhai jāi pūshah vēd purānī hē .9.
The Lord preserves the honor of those who seek His Sanctuary; go and consult the Vedas and the Puraanas. ||9||
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jis har sēvā lāē sōī jan lāgai .
That humble being is attached to the Lord's service, whom the Lord so attaches.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
gur kai sabad bharam bhau bhāgai .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, doubt and fear are dispelled.
ਵਿਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਮਲੁ ਰਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
vichē grih sadā rahai udāsī jiu kamal rahai vich pānī hē .10.
In his own home, he remains unattached, like the lotus flower in the water. ||10||
