ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
āpē bakhasē sach drirāē man tan sāchai rātā hē .11.
He Himself forgives, and implants the Truth. The mind and body are then attuned to the True Lord. ||11||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
man tan mailā vich jōt apārā .
Within the polluted mind and body is the Light of the Infinite Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
guramat būjhai kar vīchārā .
One who understands the Guru's Teachings, contemplates this.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
haumai mār sadā man niramal rasanā sēv sukhadātā hē .12.
Conquering egotism, the mind becomes immaculate forever; with his tongue, he serves the Lord, the Giver of peace. ||12||
ਗੜ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਹਟ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥
gar kāiā andar bah hat bājārā .
In the fortress of the body there are many shops and bazaars;
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tis vich nām hai at apārā .
within them is the Naam, the Name of the utterly infinite Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
gur kai sabad sadā dar sōhai haumai mār pashātā hē .13.
In His Court, one is embellished forever with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; he conquers egotism and realizes the Lord. ||13||
ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ratan amōlak agam apārā .
The jewel is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
kīmat kavan karē vēchārā .
How can the poor wretch estimate its worth?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur kai sabadē tōl tōlāē antar sabad pashātā hē .14.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is weighed, and so the Shabad is realized deep within. ||14||
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
simrit sāsatr bahut bisathārā . māiā mōh pasariā pāsārā .
The great volumes of the Simritees and the Shaastras only extend the extension of attachment to Maya.
ਮੂਰਖ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
mūrakh parah sabad n būjhah guramukh viralai jātā hē .15.
The fools read them, but do not understand the Word of the Shabad. How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
āpē karatā karē karāē .
The Creator Himself acts, and causes all to act.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
sachī bānī sach drirāē .
Through the True Word of His Bani, Truth is implanted deep within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੯॥
nānak nām milai vadiāī jug jug ēkō jātā hē .16.9.
O Nanak, through the Naam, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and throughout the ages, the One Lord is known. ||16||9||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mārū mahalā 3 .
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sō sach sēvih sirajanahārā .
Serve the True Creator Lord.
ਸਬਦੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sabadē dūkh nivāranahārā .
The Word of the Shabad is the Destroyer of pain.
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
agam agōchar kīmat nahī pāī āpē agam athāhā hē .1.
He is inaccessible and unfathomable; He cannot be evaluated. He Himself is inaccessible and immeasurable. ||1||
ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਾਏ ॥
āpē sachā sach varatāē .
The True Lord Himself makes Truth pervasive.
ਇਕਿ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
ik jan sāchai āpē lāē .
He attaches some humble beings to the Truth.
ਸਾਚੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
sāchō sēvah sāch kamāvah nāmē sach samāhā hē .2.
They serve the True Lord and practice Truth; through the Name, they are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||
ਧੁਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
dhur bhagatā mēlē āp milāē .
The Primal Lord unites His devotees in His Union.
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachī bhagatī āpē lāē .
He attaches them to true devotional worship.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
sāchī bānī sadā gun gāvai is janamai kā lāhā hē .3.
One who sings forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord, through the True Word of His Bani, earns the profit of this life. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰੁ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
guramukh vanaj karah par āp pashānah .
The Gurmukh trades, and understands his own self.
ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
ēkas bin kō avar n jānah .
He knows no other than the One Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
sachā sāh sachē vanajārē pūnjī nām visāhā hē .4.
True is the banker, and True are His traders, who buy the merchandise of the Naam. ||4||
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
āpē sājē srisat upāē .
He Himself fashions and creates the Universe.
ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
viralē kau gur sabad bujhāē .
He inspires a few to realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
satigur sēvah sē jan sāchē kātē jam kā phāhā hē .5.
Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true. He snaps the noose of death from around their necks. ||5||
ਭੰਨੈ ਘੜੇ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
bhannai gharē savārē sājē .
He destroys, creates, embellishes and fashions all beings,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਜੰਤ ਪਾਜੇ ॥
māiā mōh dūjai jant pājē .
and attaches them to duality, attachment and Maya.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
manamukh phirah sadā andh kamāvah jam kā jēvarā gal phāhā hē .6.
The self-willed manmukhs wander around forever, acting blindly. Death has strung his noose around their necks. ||6||
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
āpē bakhasē gur sēvā lāē .
He Himself forgives, and enjoins us to serve the Guru.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
guramatī nām mann vasāē .
Through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam comes to dwell within the mind.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਸਾਚਾ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
anadin nām dhiāē sāchā is jag mah nāmō lāhā hē .7.
Night and day, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the True Lord, and earn the profit of the Naam in this world. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
āpē sachā sachī nāī .
He Himself is True, and True is His Name.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
guramukh dēvai mann vasāī .
The Gurmukh bestows it, and enshrines it within the mind.
ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਚੂਕਾ ਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jin man vasiā sē jan sōhah tin sir chūkā kāhā hē .8.
Noble and exalted are those, within whose mind the Lord abides. Their heads are free of strife. ||8||
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
agam agōchar kīmat nahī pāī .
He is inaccessible and unfathomable; His value cannot be appraised.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
gur parasādī mann vasāī .
By Guru's Grace, He dwells within the mind.
ਸਦਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੰਗੈ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
sadā sabad sālāhī gunadātā lēkhā kōi n mangai tāhā hē .9.
No one calls that person to account, who praises the Word of the Shabad, the Giver of virtue. ||9||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
brahamā bisan rudr tis kī sēvā .
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva serve Him.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥
ant n pāvah alakh abhēvā .
Even they cannot find the limits of the unseen, unknowable Lord.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂ ਅਪਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
jin kau nadar karah tū apanī guramukh alakh lakhāhā hē .10.
Those who are blessed by Your Glance of Grace, become Gurmukh, and comprehend the incomprehensible. ||10||
