ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
āsā mahalā 1 .
Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
sēvak dās bhagat jan sōī .
He alone is the selfless servant, slave and humble devotee,
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
thākur kā dās guramukh hōī .
who as Gurmukh, becomes the slave of his Lord and Master.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਗੋਈ ॥
jin sir sājī tin phun gōī .
He, who created the Universe, shall ultimately destroy it.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
tis bin dūjā avar n kōī .1.
Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1||
ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sāch nām gur sabad vīchār . guramukh sāchē sāchai darabār .1. rahāu .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Gurmukh reflects upon the True Name; in the True Court, he is found to be true. ||1||Pause||
ਸਚਾ ਅਰਜੁ ਸਚੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
sachā araj sachī aradās .
The true supplication, the true prayer
ਮਹਲੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਸੁਣੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
mahalī khasam sunē sābās .
- within the Mansion of His Sublime Presence, the True Lord Master hears and applauds these.
ਸਚੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
sachai takhat bulāvai sōi .
He summons the truthful to His Heavenly Throne
ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
dē vadiāī karē s hōi .2.
and bestows glorious greatness upon them; that which He wills, comes to pass. ||2||
ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥
tērā tān tūhai dībān .
The Power is Yours; You are my only Support.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
gur kā sabad sach nīsān .
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is my true password.
ਮੰਨੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
mannē hukam s paragat jāi .
One who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command, goes to Him openly.
ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥
sach nīsānai thāk n pāi .3.
With the password of truth, his way is not blocked. ||3||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਹਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਵੇਦੁ ॥
pandit parah vakhānah vēd .
The Pandit reads and expounds on the Vedas,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਭੇਦੁ ॥
antar vasat n jānah bhēd .
but he does not know the secret of the thing within himself.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur bin sōjhī būjh n hōi .
Without the Guru, understanding and realization are not obtained;
ਸਾਚਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥
sāchā rav rahiā prabh sōi .4.
but still God is True, pervading everywhere. ||4||
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
kiā hau ākhā ākh vakhānī .
What should I say, or speak or describe?
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥
tūn āpē jānah sarab vidānī .
Only You Yourself know, O Lord of total wonder.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਦਰੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥
nānak ēkō dar dībān .
Nanak takes the Support of the Door of the One God.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਤਹਾ ਗੁਦਰਾਣੁ ॥੫॥੨੧॥
guramukh sāch tahā gudarān .5.21.
There, at the True Door, the Gurmukhs sustain themselves. ||5||21||
