ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
āsā mahalā 1 .
Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਜੇ ਦਰਿ ਮਾਂਗਤੁ ਕੂਕ ਕਰੇ ਮਹਲੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਸੁਣੇ ॥
jē dar mānhgat kūk karē mahalī khasam sunē .
If a beggar cries out at the door, the Master hears it in His Mansion.
ਭਾਵੈ ਧੀਰਕ ਭਾਵੈ ਧਕੇ ਏਕ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੧॥
bhāvai dhīrak bhāvai dhakē ēk vadāī dēi .1.
Whether He receives him or pushes him away, it is the Gift of the Lord's Greatness. ||1||
ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਨ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਜਾਤੀ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jānah jōt n pūshah jātī āgai jāt n hē .1. rahāu .
Recognize the Lord's Light within all, and do not consider social class or status; there are no classes or castes in the world hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
āp karāē āp karēi .
He Himself acts, and He Himself inspires us to act.
ਆਪਿ ਉਲਾਮ੍ਹੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਰੇਇ ॥
āp ulāmhē chit dharēi .
He Himself considers our complaints.
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
jā tūn karanahār karatār .
Since You, O Creator Lord, are the Doer,
ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਕਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
kiā muhatājī kiā sansār .2.
why should I submit to the world? ||2||
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
āp upāē āpē dēi .
You Yourself created and You Yourself give.
ਆਪੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
āpē duramat manah karēi .
You Yourself eliminate evil-mindedness;
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
gur parasād vasai man āi .
by Guru's Grace, You come to abide in our minds,
ਦੁਖੁ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
dukh anhērā vichah jāi .3.
and then, pain and darkness are dispelled from within. ||3||
ਸਾਚੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
sāch piārā āp karēi .
He Himself infuses love for the Truth.
ਅਵਰੀ ਕਉ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਦੇਇ ॥
avarī kau sāch n dēi .
Unto others, the Truth is not bestowed.
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਗੈ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਲੇਇ ॥੪॥੩॥
jē kisai dēi vakhānai nānak āgai pūsh n lēi .4.3.
If He bestows it upon someone, says Nanak, then, in the world hereafter, that person is not called to account. ||4||3||
