ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਬੈਲ ਬਿਸਾਹੇ ਪਵਨੁ ਪੂਜੀ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਓ ॥
pāp punn dui bail bisāhē pavan pūjī paragāsiō .
With both sin and virtue, the ox of the body is purchased; the air of the breath is the capital which has appeared.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਗੂਣਿ ਭਰੀ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਟਾਂਡ ਬਿਸਾਹਿਓ ॥੧॥
trisanā gūn bharī ghat bhītar in bidh tānhd bisāhiō .1.
The bag on its back is filled with desire; this is how we purchase the herd. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
aisā nāik rām hamārā .
My Lord is such a wealthy merchant!
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਬਨਜਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal sansār kīō banajārā .1. rahāu .
He has made the whole world his peddler. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਏ ਜਗਾਤੀ ਮਨ ਤਰੰਗ ਬਟਵਾਰਾ ॥
kām krōdh dui bhaē jagātī man tarang batavārā .
Sexual desire and anger are the tax-collectors, and the waves of the mind are the highway robbers.
ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਿਬੇਰਹਿ ਟਾਂਡਾ ਉਤਰਿਓ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
panch tat mil dān nibērah tānhdā utariō pārā .2.
The five elements join together and divide up their loot. This is how our herd is disposed of! ||2||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਅਬ ਐਸੀ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
kahat kabīr sunah rē santah ab aisī ban āī .
Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints: This is the state of affairs now!
ਘਾਟੀ ਚਢਤ ਬੈਲੁ ਇਕੁ ਥਾਕਾ ਚਲੋ ਗੋਨਿ ਛਿਟਕਾਈ ॥੩॥੫॥੪੯॥
ghātī chadhat bail ik thākā chalō gōn shitakāī .3.5.49.
Going uphill, the ox has grown weary; throwing off his load, he continues on his journey. ||3||5||49||
