Fifth Mehl:
ਦਾਮਨੀ ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਤਿਉ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਜਗ ਖੇ ॥
dāmanī chamatakār tiu varatārā jag khē .
Like the flash of lightning, worldly affairs last only for a moment.
ਵਥੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਾਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਉ ਜਪੰਦੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਣੀ ॥੨॥
vath suhāvī sāi nānak nāu japandō tis dhanī .2.
The only thing which is pleasing, O Nanak, is that which inspires one to meditate on the Name of the Master. ||2||

ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਧਿ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
simrit sāsatr sōdh sabh kinai kīm n jānī .
People have searched all the Simritees and Shaastras, but no one knows the Lord's value.
ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀ ॥
jō jan bhētai sādhasang sō har rang mānī .
That being, who joins the Saadh Sangat enjoys the Love of the Lord.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਏਹ ਰਤਨਾ ਖਾਣੀ ॥
sach nām karatā purakh ēh ratanā khānī .
True is the Naam, the Name of the Creator, the Primal Being. It is the mine of precious jewels.
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
masatak hōvai likhiā har simar parānī .
That mortal, who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead, meditates in remembrance on the Lord.
ਤੋਸਾ ਦਿਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਹਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥
tōsā dichai sach nām nānak mihamānī .4.
O Lord, please bless Nanak, Your humble guest, with the supplies of the True Name. ||4||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਡਿਠੜੋ ਹਭ ਠਾਇ ਊਣ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਜਾਇ ॥
ditharō habh thāi ūn n kāī jāi .
I have seen all places; there is no place without Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧਾ ਤਿਨ ਸੁਆਉ ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ॥੧॥
nānak ladhā tin suāu jinā satigur bhētiā .1.
O Nanak, those who meet with the True Guru find the object of life. ||1||
