ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਚੇਤਾ ਈ ਤਾਂ ਚੇਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ॥
chētā ī tānh chēt sāhib sachā sō dhanī .
If you are conscious, then be conscious of the True Lord, Your Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਚੜਿ ਬੋਹਿਥਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਉ ॥੧॥
nānak satigur sēv char bōhith bhaujal pār pau .1.
O Nanak, come aboard upon the boat of the service of the True Guru, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਵਾਊ ਸੰਦੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
vāū sandē kaparē pahirah garab gavār .
He wears his body, like clothes of wind - what a proud fool he is!
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਨੀ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਹੋਏ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
nānak nāl n chalanī jal bal hōē shār .2.
O Nanak, they will not go with him in the end; they shall be burnt to ashes. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸੇਈ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਗੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋ ਸਚੈ ਰਖੇ ॥
sēī ubarē jagai vich jō sachai rakhē .
They alone are delivered from the world, who are preserved and protected by the True Lord.
ਮੁਹਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਜੀਵੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਖੇ ॥
muh dithai tin kai jīvīai har anmrit chakhē .
I live by beholding the faces of those who taste the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧਾ ਭਖੇ ॥
kām krōdh lōbh mōh sang sādhā bhakhē .
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment are burnt away, in the Company of the Holy.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਖੇ ॥
kar kirapā prabh āpanī har āp parakhē .
God grants His Grace, and the Lord Himself tests them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਤ ਨ ਜਾਪਨੀ ਕੋ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਲਖੇ ॥੨॥
nānak chalat n jāpanī kō sakai n lakhē .2.
O Nanak, His play is not known; no one can understand it. ||2||
