ਜੋ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਸੰਦੇ ॥
jō mārē tin pārabraham sē kisai n sandē .
Those who are struck down by the Supreme Lord God do not belong to anyone.
ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰਨਿ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਧਰਮਿ ਨਿਆਇ ਪਚੰਦੇ ॥
vair karan niravair nāl dharam niāi pachandē .
Those who hate the One who has no hatred, are destroyed by righteous justice.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੰਤਿ ਸਰਾਪਿਆ ਸੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭਵੰਦੇ ॥
jō jō sant sarāpiā sē phirah bhavandē .
Those who are cursed by the Saints wander around lost.
ਪੇਡੁ ਮੁੰਢਾਹੂ ਕਟਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਡਾਲ ਸੁਕੰਦੇ ॥੩੧॥
pēd mundhāhū katiā tis dāl sukandē .31.
When the tree is cut off at its roots, the branches wither and die. ||31||

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
manamukh mūlah bhuliā vich lab lōbh ahankār .
The self-willed manmukhs forget the Primal Lord, the Source of all; they are caught in greed and egotism.
ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਦਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jhagarā karadiā anadin gudarai sabad n karah vīchār .
They pass their nights and days in conflict and struggle; they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਸੁਧਿ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
sudh mat karatai sabh hir laī bōlan sabh vikār .
The Creator has taken away all their understanding and purity; all their speech is evil and corrupt.
ਦਿਤੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਅਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧ੍ਯਾਰੁ ॥
ditai kitai n santōkhīah antar tisanā bah agiān andhyār .
No matter what they are given, they are not satisfied; within their hearts there is great desire, ignorance and darkness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨਾਲੋ ਤੁਟੀ ਭਲੀ ਜਿਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
nānak manamukhā nālō tutī bhalī jin māiā mōh piār .1.
O Nanak, it is good to break away from the self-willed manmukhs, who have love and attachment to Maya. ||1||

mah 4 .
Fourth Mehl:
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
jinā andar dūjā bhāu hai tinhā guramukh prīt n hōi .
Those whose hearts are filled with the love of duality, do not love the Gurmukhs.
ਓੁਹੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ōh āvai jāi bhavāīai supanai sukh n kōi .
They come and go, and wander in reincarnation; even in their dreams, they find no peace.
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਉਚਰੈ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਗਿਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
kūr kamāvai kūr ucharai kūr lagiā kūr hōi .
They practice falsehood and they speak falsehood; attached to falsehood, they become false.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
māiā mōh sabh dukh hai dukh binasai dukh rōi .
The love of Maya is total pain; in pain they perish, and in pain they cry out.
ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਤੁ ਲਿਵੈ ਜੋੜੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
nānak dhāt livai jōr n āvaī jē lōchai sabh kōi .
O Nanak, there can be no union between the love of worldliness and the love of the Lord, no matter how much everyone may desire it.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਇਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
jin kau pōtai punn paiā tinā gur sabadī sukh hōi .2.
Those who have the treasure of virtuous deeds find peace through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
paurī mah 5 .
Pauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਨਾਨਕ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨਾਂ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਕਹੰਦੇ ॥
nānak vīchārah sant mun janānh chār vēd kahandē .
O Nanak, the Saints and the silent sages think, and the four Vedas proclaim,
ਭਗਤ ਮੁਖੈ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੇ ਵਚਨ ਹੋਵੰਦੇ ॥
bhagat mukhai tē bōladē sē vachan hōvandē .
that whatever the Lord's devotees speak comes to pass.
ਪਰਗਟ ਪਾਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣੰਦੇ ॥
paragat pāhārai jāpadē sabh lōk sunandē .
He is revealed in His cosmic workshop; all people hear of it.
ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਰ ਸੰਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਖਹੰਦੇ ॥
sukh n pāin mugadh nar sant nāl khahandē .
The foolish people, who fight with the Saints, find no peace.
ਓਇ ਲੋਚਨਿ ਓਨਾ ਗੁਣਾ ਨੋ ਓਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੜੰਦੇ ॥
ōi lōchan ōnā gunā nō ōi ahankār sarandē .
The Saints seek to bless them with virtue, but they are burning with egotism.
ਓਇ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਾਂ ਭਾਗ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੰਦੇ ॥
ōi vēchārē kiā karah jānh bhāg dhur mandē .
What can those wretched ones do? Their evil destiny was pre-ordained.
