Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਈਐ ਚਿਤੁ ॥
ih manūā drir kar rakhīai guramukh lāīai chit .
Hold this mind steady and stable; become Gurmukh and focus your consciousness.
ਕਿਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਨਿਤ ॥
kiu sās girās visārīai bahadiā uthadiā nit .
How could you ever forget Him, with each breath and morsel of food, sitting down or standing up?
ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਈ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵਸਿ ॥
maran jīvan kī chintā gaī ih jīarā har prabh vas .
My anxiety about birth and death has ended; this soul is under the control of the Lord God.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਖਸਿ ॥੧॥
jiu bhāvai tiu rakh tū jan nānak nām bakhas .1.
If it pleases You, then save servant Nanak, and bless him with Your Name. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਪੀਛੈ ॥
manamukh ahankārī mahal n jānai khin āgai khin pīshai .
The egotistical, self-willed manmukh does not know the Mansion of the Lord's Presence; one moment he is here, and the next moment he is there.
ਸਦਾ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ਮਹਲਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੀਝੈ ॥
sadā bulāīai mahal n āvai kiu kar daragah sījhai .
He is always invited, but he does not go to the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. How shall he be accepted in the Court of the Lord?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ॥
satigur kā mahal viralā jānai sadā rahai kar jōr .
How rare are those who know the Mansion of the True Guru; they stand with their palms pressed together.
ਆਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਏ ਬਹੋੜਿ ॥੨॥
āpanī kripā karē har mērā nānak laē bahōr .2.
If my Lord grants His Grace, O Nanak, He restores them to Himself. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਨੇ ॥
sā sēvā kītī saphal hai jit satigur kā man mannē .
Fruitful and rewarding is that service, which is pleasing to the Guru's Mind.
ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਸੰਮਲ ਭੰਨੇ ॥
jā satigur kā man manniā tā pāp kasanmal bhannē .
When the Mind of the True Guru is pleased, then sins and misdeeds run away.
ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਜਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਸਿਖੀ ਕੰਨੇ ॥
upadēs j ditā satigurū sō suniā sikhī kannē .
The Sikhs listen to the Teachings imparted by the True Guru.
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਚੜੀ ਚਵਗਣਿ ਵੰਨੇ ॥
jin satigur kā bhānā manniā tin charī chavagan vannē .
Those who surrender to the True Guru's Will are imbued with the four-fold Love of the Lord.
ਇਹ ਚਾਲ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨੇ ॥੨੫॥
ih chāl nirālī guramukhī gur dīkhiā sun man bhinnē .25.
This is the unique and distinct life-style of the Gurmukhs: listening to the Guru's Teachings, their minds blossom forth. ||25||
