ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਤਿ ॥੧੬॥
jan nānak nām salāh tū sach sachē sēvā tērī hōt .16.
O servant Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; this is your service to the Lord, the Truest of the True. ||16||

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਅਉਖਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਇਆ ॥
jō nindā karē satigur pūrē kī s aukhā jag mah hōiā .
One who slanders the Perfect True Guru, shall have difficulty in this world.
ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰੁ ਦੁਖ ਖੂਹੁ ਹੈ ਓਥੈ ਪਕੜਿ ਓਹੁ ਢੋਇਆ ॥
narak ghōr dukh khūh hai ōthai pakar ōh dhōiā .
He is caught and thrown into the most horrible hell, the well of pain and suffering.
ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੋ ਨ ਸੁਣੇ ਓਹੁ ਅਉਖਾ ਹੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਰੋਇਆ ॥
kūk pukār kō n sunē ōh aukhā hōi hōi rōiā .
No one listens to his shrieks and cries; he cries out in pain and misery.
ਓਨਿ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਖੋਇਆ ॥
ōn halat palat sabh gavāiā lāhā mūl sabh khōiā .
He totally loses this world and the next; he has lost all of his investment and profit.
ਓਹੁ ਤੇਲੀ ਸੰਦਾ ਬਲਦੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜੋਇਆ ॥
ōh tēlī sandā balad kar nit bhalakē uth prabh jōiā .
He is like the ox at the oil-press; each morning when he rises, God places the yoke upon him.
ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਦੂ ਕਿਛੁ ਗੁਝਾ ਨ ਹੋਇਆ ॥
har vēkhai sunai nit sabh kish tidū kish gujhā n hōiā .
The Lord always sees and hears everything; nothing can be concealed from Him.
ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੈ ਜੇਹਾ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਬੋਇਆ ॥
jaisā bījē sō lunai jēhā purab kinai bōiā .
As you plant, so shall you harvest, according to what you planted in the past.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧੋਇਆ ॥
jis kripā karē prabh āpanī tis satigur kē charan dhōiā .
One who is blessed by God's Grace washes the feet of the True Guru.
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਿਛੈ ਤਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਲੋਹਾ ਕਾਠ ਸੰਗੋਇਆ ॥
gur satigur pishai tar gaiā jiu lōhā kāth sangōiā .
He is carried across by the Guru, the True Guru, like iron which is carried across by wood.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੧॥
jan nānak nām dhiāi tū jap har har nām sukh hōiā .1.
O servant Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, peace is obtained. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
vadabhāgīā sōhāganī jinā guramukh miliā har rāi .
Very fortunate is the soul-bride, who, as Gurmukh, meets the Lord, her King.
ਅੰਤਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
antar jōt pragāsīā nānak nām samāi .2.
Her inner being is illiminated with His Divine Light; O Nanak, she is absorbed in His Name. ||2||

Pauree:
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ॥
ih sarīr sabh dharam hai jis andar sachē kī vich jōt .
This body is the home of Dharma; the Divine Light of the True Lord is within it.
ਗੁਹਜ ਰਤਨ ਵਿਚਿ ਲੁਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਢੈ ਖੋਤਿ ॥
guhaj ratan vich luk rahē kōī guramukh sēvak kadhai khōt .
Hidden within it are the jewels of mystery; how rare is that Gurmukh, that selfless servant, who digs them out.
ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਇਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਇਕੋ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ॥
sabh ātam rām pashāniā tānh ik raviā ikō ōt pōt .
When someone realizes the All-pervading Soul, then he sees the One and Only Lord permeating, through and through.
ਇਕੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਇਕੁ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਇਕੋ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਸਰੋਤਿ ॥
ik dēkhiā ik manniā ikō suniā sravan sarōt .
He sees the One, he believes in the One, and with his ears, he listens only to the One.
