ਤਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਤ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥ ॥
tā kau rākhat dē kar hāth .
- He preserves them, and holds out His hands to protect them.
ਮਾਨਸ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥
mānas jatan karat bah bhāt .
You may make all sorts of efforts,
ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
tis kē karatab birathē jāt .
but these attempts are in vain.
ਮਾਰੈ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mārai n rākhai avar n kōi .
No one else can kill or preserve
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
sarab jīā kā rākhā sōi .
- He is the Protector of all beings.
ਕਾਹੇ ਸੋਚ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
kāhē sōch karah rē prānī .
So why are you so anxious, O mortal?
ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਲਖ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੫॥
jap nānak prabh alakh vidānī .5.
Meditate, O Nanak, on God, the invisible, the wonderful! ||5||
ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਪੀਐ ॥
bāran bār bār prabh japīai .
Time after time, again and again, meditate on God.
ਪੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਪੀਐ ॥
pī anmrit ih man tan dhrapīai .
Drinking in this Nectar, this mind and body are satisfied.
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
nām ratan jin guramukh pāiā .
The jewel of the Naam is obtained by the Gurmukhs;
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
tis kish avar nāhī drisatāiā .
they see no other than God.
ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
nām dhan nāmō rūp rang .
Unto them, the Naam is wealth, the Naam is beauty and delight.
ਨਾਮੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
nāmō sukh har nām kā sang .
The Naam is peace, the Lord's Name is their companion.

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ ॥
ād sach jugād sach .
True in the beginning, True throughout the ages,
ਹੈ ਭਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭਿ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥
hai bh sach nānak hōsī bh sach .1.
True here and now. O Nanak, He shall forever be True. ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੇ ॥
nām ras jō jan tripatānē .
Those who are satisfied by the essence of the Naam
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
man tan nāmah nām samānē .
- their minds and bodies are drenched with the Naam.
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਨਾਮ ॥
ūthat baithat sōvat nām .
While standing up, sitting down and sleeping, the Naam,
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥
asatapadī .

ਚਰਨ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪਰਸਨਹਾਰ ॥
charan sat sat parasanahār .
His Lotus Feet are True, and True are those who touch Them.
ਪੂਜਾ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸੇਵਦਾਰ ॥
pūjā sat sat sēvadār .
His devotional worship is True, and True are those who worship Him.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪੇਖਨਹਾਰ ॥
darasan sat sat pēkhanahār .
The Blessing of His Vision is True, and True are those who behold it.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਕਾਮ ॥੬॥
kah nānak jan kai sad kām .6.
says Nanak, is forever the occupation of God's humble servant. ||6||
ਬੋਲਹੁ ਜਸੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
bōlah jas jihabā din rāt .
Chant His Praises with your tongue, day and night.
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਜਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
prabh apanai jan kīnī dāt .
God Himself has given this gift to His servants.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਧਿਆਵਨਹਾਰ ॥
nām sat sat dhiāvanahār .
His Naam is True, and True are those who meditate on it.
ਆਪਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਭ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
āp sat sat sabh dhārī .
He Himself is True, and True is all that He sustains.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ॥
āpē gun āpē gunakārī .
He Himself is virtuous goodness, and He Himself is the Bestower of virtue.
ਕਰਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਆਤਮ ਕੈ ਚਾਇ ॥
karah bhagat ātam kai chāi .
Performing devotional worship with heart-felt love,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
prabh apanē siu rahah samāi .
they remain absorbed in God Himself.
ਜੋ ਹੋਆ ਹੋਵਤ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
jō hōā hōvat sō jānai .
They know the past and the present.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
prabh apanē kā hukam pashānai .
They recognize God's Own Command.
ਸਬਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਕਤਾ ॥
sabad sat sat prabh bakatā .
The Word of His Shabad is True, and True are those who speak of God.
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਤਾ ॥
surat sat sat jas sunatā .
Those ears are True, and True are those who listen to His Praises.
ਬੁਝਨਹਾਰ ਕਉ ਸਤਿ ਸਭ ਹੋਇ ॥
bujhanahār kau sat sabh hōi .
All is True to one who understands.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਉਨ ਬਖਾਨਉ ॥
tis kī mahimā kaun bakhānau .
Who can describe His Glory?
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਕਹਿ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ॥
tis kā gun kah ēk n jānau .
I cannot describe even one of His virtuous qualities.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਸਹਿ ਹਜੂਰੇ ॥
āth pahar prabh basah hajūrē .
Those who dwell in God's Presence, twenty-four hours a day
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
nānak sat sat prabh sōi .1.
O Nanak, True, True is He, the Lord God. ||1||
ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
sat sarūp ridai jin māniā .
One who believes in the Embodiment of Truth with all his heart
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਤਿਨਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
karan karāvan tin mūl pashāniā .
recognizes the Cause of causes as the Root of all.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੭॥
kah nānak sēī jan pūrē .7.
- says Nanak, they are the perfect persons. ||7||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
man mērē tin kī ōt lēh .
O my mind, seek their protection;
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
man tan apanā tin jan dēh .
give your mind and body to those humble beings.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਆ ॥
jā kai ridai bisvās prabh āiā .
One whose heart is filled with faith in God
ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥
tat giān tis man pragatāiā .
- the Essence of spiritual wisdom is revealed to His mind.
ਭੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇ ਬਸਾਨਾ ॥
bhai tē nirabhau hōi basānā .
Coming out of fear, he comes to live without fear.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jin jan apanā prabhū pashātā .
Those humble beings who recognizes God
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
sō jan sarab thōk kā dātā .
are the givers of all things.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
tis kī saran sarab sukh pāvah .
In His Sanctuary, all comforts are obtained.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
jis tē upajiā tis māh samānā .
He is absorbed into the One, from whom he originated.
ਬਸਤੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਲੇ ਬਸਤੁ ਗਡਾਈ ॥
basat māh lē basat gadāī .
When something blends with its own,
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਭਿੰਨ ਨ ਕਹਨਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
tā kau bhinn n kahanā jāī .
it cannot be said to be separate from it.
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟਾਵਹਿ ॥
tis kai daras sabh pāp mitāvah .
By the Blessing of His Darshan, all sins are erased.
ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲੀ ਛਾਡੁ ॥
avar siānap sagalī shād .
So renounce all other clever devices,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
tis jan kī tū sēvā lāg .
and enjoin yourself to the service of those servants.
ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਨਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
būjhai būjhanahār bibēk .
This is understood only by one of discerning understanding.
ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ॥੨॥
nārāin milē nānak ēk .2.
Meeting with the Lord, O Nanak, he becomes one with Him. ||2||
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ॥
thākur kā sēvak āgiākārī .
The servant is obedient to his Lord and Master.
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਜਾਰੀ ॥
thākur kā sēvak sadā pūjārī .
The servant worships his Lord and Master forever.
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
āvan jān n hōvī tērā .
Your comings and goings shall be ended.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਸਦ ਪੈਰਾ ॥੮॥੧੭॥
nānak tis jan kē pūjah sad pairā .8.17.
O Nanak, worship the feet of God's humble servants forever. ||8||17||
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
thākur kē sēvak kai man paratīt .
The servant of the Lord Master has faith in his mind.
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
thākur kē sēvak kī niramal rīt .
The servant of the Lord Master lives a pure lifestyle.
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
thākur kau sēvak jānai sang .
The servant of the Lord Master knows that the Lord is with him.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
prabh kā sēvak nām kai rang .
God's servant is attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਲਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
sēvak kau prabh pālanahārā .
God is the Cherisher of His servant.
ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
sēvak kī rākhai nirankārā .
The Formless Lord preserves His servant.
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
sō sēvak jis daiā prabh dhārai .
Unto His servant, God bestows His Mercy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
nānak sō sēvak sās sās samārai .3.
O Nanak, that servant remembers Him with each and every breath. ||3||
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਢਾਕੈ ॥
apunē jan kā paradā dhākai .
He covers the faults of His servant.
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਸਰਪਰ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
apanē sēvak kī sarapar rākhai .
He surely preserves the honor of His servant.
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
apanē dās kau dēi vadāī .
He blesses His slave with greatness.
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਈ ॥
apanē sēvak kau nām japāī .
He inspires His servant to chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪਿ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
apanē sēvak kī āp pat rākhai .
He Himself preserves the honor of His servant.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਲਾਖੈ ॥
tā kī gat mit kōi n lākhai .
No one knows His state and extent.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਕੋ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੈ ॥
prabh kē sēvak kau kō n pahūchai .
No one is equal to the servant of God.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਊਚ ਤੇ ਊਚੇ ॥
prabh kē sēvak ūch tē ūchē .
The servant of God is the highest of the high.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
jō prabh apanī sēvā lāiā .
One whom God applies to His own service, O Nanak
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
nānak sō sēvak dah dis pragatāiā .4.
- that servant is famous in the ten directions. ||4||
ਨੀਕੀ ਕੀਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
nīkī kīrī mah kal rākhai .
He infuses His Power into the tiny ant;
ਭਸਮ ਕਰੈ ਲਸਕਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਾਖੈ ॥
bhasam karai lasakar kōt lākhai .
it can then reduce the armies of millions to ashes
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਢਤ ਆਪਿ ॥
jis kā sās n kādhat āp .
Those whose breath of life He Himself does not take away
