ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਅਨਰਾਉ ॥੧॥
nānak kai man ih anarāu .1.
- this is the longing of Nanak's mind. ||1||
ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਨਾ ਜੋਗ ॥
manasā pūran saranā jōg .
He is the Fulfiller of wishes, who can give us Sanctuary;
ਜੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
jō kar pāiā sōī hōg .
that which He has written, comes to pass.
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
jis kī srisat s karanaihār .
He is the Creator Lord of His world.
ਅਵਰ ਨ ਬੂਝਿ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
avar n būjh karat bīchār .
No one else understands Him, although they may try.
ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੀਆ ॥
karatē kī mit n jānai kīā .
The created cannot know the extent of the Creator.
ਹਰਨ ਭਰਨ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਫੋਰੁ ॥
haran bharan jā kā nētr phōr .
He destroys and creates in the twinkling of an eye.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਹੋਰੁ ॥
tis kā mantr n jānai hōr .
No one else knows the mystery of His ways.
ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਦ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
anad rūp mangal sad jā kai .
He is the embodiment of ecstasy and everlasting joy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਵਰਤੀਆ ॥੭॥
nānak jō tis bhāvai sō varatīā .7.
O Nanak, whatever pleases Him comes to pass. ||7||
ਬਿਸਮਨ ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥
bisaman bisam bhaē bisamād .
Gazing upon His wondrous wonder, I am wonder-struck and amazed!
ਜਿਨਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਇਆ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ॥
jin būjhiā tis āiā svād .
One who realizes this, comes to taste this state of joy.
ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਸੁਨੀਅਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥
sarab thōk sunīah ghar tā kai .
I have heard that all things are in His home.
ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਗੀ ॥
rāj mah rāj jōg mah jōgī .
Among kings, He is the King; among yogis, He is the Yogi.
ਤਪ ਮਹਿ ਤਪੀਸਰੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਭੋਗੀ ॥
tap mah tapīsar grihasat mah bhōgī .
Among ascetics, He is the Ascetic; among householders, He is the Enjoyer.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਚਿ ਜਨ ਰਹੇ ॥
prabh kai rang rāch jan rahē .
God's humble servants remain absorbed in His Love.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਲਹੇ ॥
gur kai bachan padārath lahē .
Following the Guru's Teachings, they receive the four cardinal blessings.
ਓਇ ਦਾਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰ ॥
ōi dātē dukh kātanahār .
They are the givers, the dispellers of pain.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
jā kai sang tarai sansār .
In their company, the world is saved.
ਧਿਆਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਭਗਤਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
dhiāi dhiāi bhagatah sukh pāiā .
By constant meditation, His devotee finds peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
nānak tis purakh kā kinai ant n pāiā .2.
O Nanak, no one has found the limits of that Supreme Being. ||2||
ਜਨ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੋ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
jan kā sēvak sō vadabhāgī .
The slave of the Lord's servant is so very blessed.
ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
jan kai sang ēk liv lāgī .
In the company of His servant, one becomes attached to the Love of the One.
ਗੁਨ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਜਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
gun gōbid kīratan jan gāvai .
His humble servant sings the Kirtan, the songs of the glory of God.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jā kī līlā kī mit nāh .
There is no limit to His play.
ਸਗਲ ਦੇਵ ਹਾਰੇ ਅਵਗਾਹਿ ॥
sagal dēv hārē avagāh .
All the demigods have grown weary of searching for it.
ਪਿਤਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੂਤੁ ॥
pitā kā janam k jānai pūt .
What does the son know of his father's birth?
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੧੬॥
gur prasād nānak phal pāvai .8.16.
By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, he receives the fruits of his rewards. ||8||16||
ਸਗਲ ਪਰੋਈ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਸੂਤਿ ॥
sagal parōī apunai sūt .
All are strung upon His string.
ਸੁਮਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਦੇਇ ॥ ਜਨ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥
sumat giān dhiān jin dēi . jan dās nām dhiāvah sēi .
He bestows good sense, spiritual wisdom and meditation on His humble servants and slaves who meditate on the Naam.
ਤਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥
tih gun mah jā kau bharamāē .
He leads some astray in the three qualities;
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
janam marai phir āvai jāē .
they are born and die, coming and going over and over again.
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਅਸਥਾਨ ॥
ūch nīch tis kē asathān .
The high and the low are His places.
ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਾਵੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਨ ॥੩॥
jaisā janāvai taisā nānak jān .3.
As He inspires us to know Him, O Nanak, so is He known. ||3||
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਨਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥
nānā rūp nānā jā kē rang .
Many are His forms; many are His colors.
ਨਾਨਾ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ॥
nānā bhēkh karah ik rang .
Many are the appearances which He assumes, and yet He is still the One.
ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥
nānā bidh kīnō bisathār .
In so many ways, He has extended Himself.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
prabh abināsī ēkankār .
The Eternal Lord God is the One, the Creator.
ਨਾਨਾ ਚਲਿਤ ਕਰੇ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
nānā chalit karē khin māh .
He performs His many plays in an instant.
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਇ ॥
pūr rahiō pūran sabh thāi .
The Perfect Lord is pervading all places.
ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਨਤ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
nānā bidh kar banat banāī .
In so many ways, He created the creation.
ਅਪਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
apanī kīmat āpē pāī .
He alone can estimate His worth.
ਸਭ ਘਟ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਠਾਉ ॥
sabh ghat tis kē sabh tis kē thāu .
All hearts are His, and all places are His.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥
jap jap jīvai nānak har nāu .4.
Nanak lives by chanting, chanting the Name of the Lord. ||4||
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੰਤ ॥
nām kē dhārē sagalē jant .
The Naam is the Support of all creatures.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥
nām kē dhārē khand brahamand .
The Naam is the Support of the earth and solar systems.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥
nām kē dhārē simrit bēd purān .
The Naam is the Support of the Simritees, the Vedas and the Puraanas.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸੁਨਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
nām kē dhārē sunan giān dhiān .
The Naam is the Support by which we hear of spiritual wisdom and meditation.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਆਗਾਸ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥
nām kē dhārē āgās pātāl .
The Naam is the Support of the Akaashic ethers and the nether regions.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਆਕਾਰ ॥
nām kē dhārē sagal ākār .
The Naam is the Support of all bodies.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਸਭ ਭਵਨ ॥
nām kē dhārē purīā sabh bhavan .
The Naam is the Support of all worlds and realms.
ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ॥
nām kai sang udharē sun sravan .
Associating with the Naam, listening to it with the ears, one is saved.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਨੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
kar kirapā jis āpanai nām lāē .
Those whom the Lord mercifully attaches to His Naam
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥
nānak chauthē pad mah sō jan gat pāē .5.
- O Nanak, in the fourth state, those humble servants attain salvation. ||5||
ਰੂਪੁ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਤਿ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥
rūp sat jā kā sat asathān .
His form is true, and true is His place.
ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਤਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
purakh sat kēval paradhān .
His personality is true - He alone is supreme.
ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
karatūt sat sat jā kī bānī .
His acts are true, and true is His Word.
ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
sat purakh sabh māh samānī .
The True Lord is permeating all.

ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
rūp n rēkh n rang kish trih gun tē prabh bhinn .
He has no form, no shape, no color; God is beyond the three qualities.
ਸਤਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਤਿ ॥
sat karam jā kī rachanā sat .
True are His actions; His creation is true.
ਮੂਲੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਉਤਪਤਿ ॥
mūl sat sat utapat .
His root is true, and true is what originates from it.
ਸਤਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ॥
sat karanī niramal niramalī .
True is His lifestyle, the purest of the pure.
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥੧॥
tisah bujhāē nānakā jis hōvai suprasann .1.
They alone understand Him, O Nanak, with whom He is pleased. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥
abināsī prabh man mah rākh .
Keep the Immortal Lord God enshrined within your mind.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥
mānukh kī tū prīt tiāg .
Renounce your love and attachment to people.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਭਲੀ ॥
jisah bujhāē tisah sabh bhalī .
All goes well for those who know Him.
ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
sat nām prabh kā sukhadāī .
The True Name of God is the Giver of peace.
ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥
bisvās sat nānak gur tē pāī .6.
Nanak has obtained true faith from the Guru. ||6||
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis tē parai nāhī kish kōi .
Beyond Him, there is nothing at all.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
sarab nirantar ēkō sōi .
The One Lord is pervading among all.
ਆਪੇ ਬੀਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾ ॥
āpē bīnā āpē dānā .
He Himself is All-seeing; He Himself is All-knowing,
ਸਤਿ ਬਚਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥
sat bachan sādhū upadēs .
True are the Teachings, and the Instructions of the Holy.
ਸਤਿ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ॥
sat tē jan jā kai ridai pravēs .
True are those into whose hearts He enters.
ਸਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
sat nirat būjhai jē kōi .
One who knows and loves the Truth
ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਗਹੀਰੁ ਸੁਜਾਨਾ ॥
gahir ganbhīr gahīr sujānā .
Unfathomable, Profound, Deep and All-knowing.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
pārabraham paramēsur gōbind .
He is the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, the Lord of the Universe,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਬਖਸੰਦ ॥
kripā nidhān daiāl bakhasand .
the Treasure of mercy, compassion and forgiveness.
ਸਾਧ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਉ ॥
sādh tērē kī charanī pāu .
To fall at the Feet of Your Holy Beings
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
nām japat tā kī gat hōi .
- chanting the Naam, He obtains salvation.
ਆਪਿ ਸਤਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਤਿ ॥
āp sat kīā sabh sat .
He Himself is True, and all that He has made is true.
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਗਤਿ ॥
āpē jānai apanī mit gat .
He Himself knows His own state and condition.
