ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
purab likhē kā likhiā pāīai .
You shall obtain your pre-ordained destiny.
ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
dūkh sūkh prabh dēvanahār .
God is the Giver of pain and pleasure.
ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਤੂ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੁ ॥
avar tiāg tū tisah chitār .
Abandon others, and think of Him alone.
ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jō kash karai sōī sukh mān .
Whatever He does - take comfort in that.
ਭੂਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
bhūlā kāhē phirah ajān .
Why do you wander around, you ignorant fool?
ਕਉਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਆਈ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗ ॥
kaun basat āī tērai sang .
What things did you bring with you?
ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਸਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਪਤੰਗ ॥
lapat rahiō ras lōbhī patang .
You cling to worldly pleasures like a greedy moth.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
rām nām jap hiradē māh .
Dwell upon the Lord's Name in your heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
nānak pat sētī ghar jāh .4.
O Nanak, thus you shall return to your home with honor. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕਉ ਲੈਨਿ ਤੂ ਆਇਆ ॥
jis vakhar kau lain tū āiā .
This merchandise, which you have come to obtai
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
rām nām santan ghar pāiā .
n - the Lord's Name is obtained in the home of the Saints.
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੋਲਿ ॥ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਤੋਲਿ ॥
taj abhimān lēh man mōl . rām nām hiradē mah tōl .
Renounce your egotistical pride, and with your mind, purchase the Lord's Name - measure it out within your heart.
ਲਾਦਿ ਖੇਪ ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਾਲੁ ॥
lād khēp santah sang chāl .
Load up this merchandise, and set out with the Saints.
ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
avar tiāg bikhiā janjāl .
Give up other corrupt entanglements.
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
dhann dhann kahai sabh kōi .
Blessed, blessed, everyone will call you,
ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਇ ॥
mukh ūjal har daragah sōi .
and your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord.
ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੈ ॥
ih vāpār viralā vāpārai .
In this trade, only a few are trading.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੫॥
nānak tā kai sad balihārai .5.
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||5||
ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਉ ॥
charan sādh kē dhōi dhōi pīu .
Wash the feet of the Holy, and drink in this water.
ਅਰਪਿ ਸਾਧ ਕਉ ਅਪਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
arap sādh kau apanā jīu .
Dedicate your soul to the Holy.
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
sādh kī dhūr karah isanān .
Take your cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਸਾਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
sādh ūpar jāīai kurabān .
To the Holy, make your life a sacrifice.
ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sādh sēvā vadabhāgī pāīai .
Service to the Holy is obtained by great good fortune.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
sādhasang har kīratan gāīai .
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is sung.
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਘਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
anik bighan tē sādhū rākhai .
From all sorts of dangers, the Saint saves us.

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ॥
sarab kalā bharapūr prabh birathā jānanahār .
God is totally imbued with all powers; He is the Knower of our troubles.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
jā kai simaran udharīai nānak tis balihār .1.
Meditating in remembrance on Him, we are saved; Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
har gun gāi anmrit ras chākhai .
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, we taste the ambrosial essence.
ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੰਤਹ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
ōt gahī santah dar āiā .
Seeking the Protection of the Saints, we have come to their door.
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
sarab sūkh nānak tih pāiā .6.
All comforts, O Nanak, are so obtained. ||6||

ਟੂਟੀ ਗਾਢਨਹਾਰ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥
tūtī gādhanahār gōpāl .
The Lord of the World is the Mender of the broken.
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
sarab jīā āpē pratipāl .
He Himself cherishes all beings.
ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sagal kī chintā jis man māh .
The cares of all are on His Mind;
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਜੀਵਾਲਨਹਾਰ ॥
miratak kau jīvālanahār .
He infuses life back into the dead.
ਭੂਖੇ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਤ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
bhūkhē kau dēvat adhār .
He gives food to the hungry.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab nidhān jā kī drisatī māh .
All treasures are within His Glance of Grace.
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
tis tē birathā kōī nāh .
no one is turned away from Him.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
rē man mērē sadā har jāp .
O my mind, meditate forever on the Lord.
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
abināsī prabh āpē āp .
The Imperishable Lord God is Himself All-in-all.
ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਹਣਾ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
purab likhē kā lahanā pāh .
People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਓਹੁ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
sabh kish tis kā ōh karanai jōg .
All things are His; He is the Doer of all.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਸਰ ਹੋਆ ਨ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
tis bin dūsar hōā n hōg .
Other than Him, there has never been any other, and there shall never be.
ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
āpan kīā kashū n hōi .
By one's own actions, nothing is accomplished,
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
jē sau prānī lōchai kōi .
even though the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ ॥
tis bin nāhī tērai kish kām .
Without Him, nothing is of any use to you.
ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
gat nānak jap ēk har nām .1.
Salvation, O Nanak, is attained by chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣੀ ॥
jap jan sadā sadā din rainī .
Meditate on Him forever and ever, day and night.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਇਹ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
sabh tē ūch niramal ih karanī .
This way of life is exalted and immaculate.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
kar kirapā jis kau nām dīā .
One whom the Lord, in His Grace, blesses with His Name
ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
rūpavant hōi nāhī mōhai .
One who is good-looking should not be vain;
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
prabh kī jōt sagal ghat sōhai .
the Light of God is in all hearts.
ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੈ ॥
dhanavantā hōi kiā kō garabai .
Why should anyone be proud of being rich?
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੭॥
nānak sō jan niramal thīā .7.
- O Nanak, that person becomes immaculate and pure. ||7||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
jā kai man gur kī paratīt .
One who has faith in the Guru in his mind
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
tis jan āvai har prabh chīt .
comes to dwell upon the Lord God.
ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਦਰਬੈ ॥
jā sabh kish tis kā dīā darabai .
All riches are His gifts.
ਅਤਿ ਸੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
at sūrā jē kōū kahāvai .
One may call himself a great hero,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
prabh kī kalā binā kah dhāvai .
but without God's Power, what can anyone do?
ਭਗਤੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ॥
bhagat bhagat sunīai tih lōi .
He is acclaimed as a devotee, a humble devotee throughout the three worlds.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
jā kai hiradai ēkō hōi .
The One Lord is in his heart.
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਹਤ ॥
sach karanī sach tā kī rahat .
True are his actions; true are his ways.
ਸਚੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਤਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹਤ ॥
sach hiradai sat mukh kahat .
True is his heart; Truth is what he speaks with his mouth.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
jē kō hōi bahai dātār .
One who brags about giving to charities
ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
tis dēnahār jānai gāvār .
- the great Giver shall Judge Him to be a fool.
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੂਟੈ ਹਉ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
jis gur prasād tūtai hau rōg .
One who, by Guru's Grace, is cured of the disease of ego
ਸਾਚੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
sāchī drisat sāchā ākār .
True is his vision; true is his form.
ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥
sach varatai sāchā pāsār .
He distributes Truth and he spreads Truth.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
pārabraham jin sach kar jātā .
One who recognizes the Supreme Lord God as True
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਰੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
nānak sō jan sadā arōg .2.
- O Nanak, that person is forever healthy. ||2||
ਜਿਉ ਮੰਦਰ ਕਉ ਥਾਮੈ ਥੰਮਨੁ ॥
jiu mandar kau thāmai thanman .
As a palace is supported by its pillars,
ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ ॥
tiu gur kā sabad manah asathanman .
so does the Guru's Word support the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੧੫॥
nānak sō jan sach samātā .8.15.
- O Nanak, that humble being is absorbed into the True One. ||8||15||
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਨਾਵ ਚੜਿ ਤਰੈ ॥
jiu pākhān nāv char tarai .
As a stone placed in a boat can cross over the river,
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਗਤੁ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥
prānī gur charan lagat nisatarai .
so is the mortal saved, grasping hold of the Guru's Feet.
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
jiu andhakār dīpak paragās .
As the darkness is illuminated by the lamp,
ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
gur darasan dēkh man hōi bigās .
so does the mind blossom forth, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਤਿਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥
jiu mahā udiān mah mārag pāvai . tiu sādhū sang mil jōt pragatāvai .
The path is found through the great wilderness by joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and one's light shines forth.
ਤਿਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
tin santan kī bāshau dhūr .
I seek the dust of the feet of those Saints;
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
nānak kī har lōchā pūr .3.
O Lord, fulfill Nanak's longing! ||3||
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ ॥
man mūrakh kāhē bilalāīai .
O foolish mind, why do you cry and bewail?
