ਜਹ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
jah māt pitā sut mīt n bhāī .
Where there is no mother, father, children, friends or siblings
ਮਨ ਊਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
man ūhā nām tērai sang sahāī .
- O my mind, there, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be with You as Your help and support.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਭੋਗ ਜੋਗ ॥
har kā nām jan kau bhōg jōg .
The Name of the Lord is the enjoyment and Yoga of His servants.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਬਿਓਗੁ ॥
har nām japat kash nāh biōg .
Chanting the Lord's Name, there is no separation from Him.
ਜਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
jan rātā har nām kī sēvā .
His servants are imbued with the service of the Lord's Name.
ਜਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਦੂਤ ਜਮ ਦਲੈ ॥
jah mahā bhaiān dūt jam dalai .
Where the great and terrible Messenger of Death shall try to crush you,
ਤਹ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਲੈ ॥
tah kēval nām sang tērai chalai .
there, only the Naam shall go along with you.
ਜਹ ਮੁਸਕਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
jah musakal hōvai at bhārī .
Where the obstacles are so very heavy,
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੬॥
nānak pūjai har har dēvā .6.
O Nanak, worship the Lord, the Lord Divine, Har, Har. ||6||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਮਾਲੁ ਖਜੀਨਾ ॥
har har jan kai māl khajīnā .
The Lord's Name, Har, Har, is the treasure of wealth of His servants.
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
har dhan jan kau āp prabh dīnā .
The treasure of the Lord has been bestowed on His servants by God Himself.
ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥
har kō nām khin māh udhārī .
the Name of the Lord shall rescue you in an instant.
ਅਨਿਕ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨ ਕਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਤਰੈ ॥
anik punahacharan karat nahī tarai .
By performing countless religious rituals, you shall not be saved.
ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਪ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
har kō nām kōt pāp paraharai .
The Name of the Lord washes off millions of sins.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਓਟ ਸਤਾਣੀ ॥
har har jan kai ōt satānī .
The Lord, Har, Har is the All-powerful Protection of His servants.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਿ ਜਨ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
har pratāp jan avar n jānī .
His servants know no other than the Lord's Magnificence.
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
ōt pōt jan har ras rātē .
Through and through, His servants are imbued with the Lord's Love.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
guramukh nām japah man mērē .
As Gurmukh, chant the Naam, O my mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥੧॥
nānak pāvah sūkh ghanērē .1.
O Nanak, you shall obtain countless joys. ||1||
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
sagal srisat kō rājā dukhīā .
The rulers of the all the world are unhappy;
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
sunn samādh nām ras mātē .
In deepest Samaadhi, they are intoxicated with the essence of the Naam.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ॥
āth pahar jan har har japai .
Twenty-four hours a day, His servants chant Har, Har.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਗਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਨਹੀ ਛਪੈ ॥
har kā bhagat pragat nahī shapai .
The devotees of the Lord are known and respected; they do not hide in secrecy.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੇ ॥
har kī bhagat mukat bah karē .
Through devotion to the Lord, many have been liberated.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥
har kā nām japat hōi sukhīā .
one who chants the Name of the Lord becomes happy.
ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਰੈ ॥
lākh karōrī bandh n parai .
Acquiring hundreds of thousands and millions, your desires shall not be contained.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥
har kā nām japat nisatarai .
Chanting the Name of the Lord, you shall find release.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤਰੇ ॥੭॥
nānak jan sang kētē tarē .7.
O Nanak, along with His servants, many others are saved. ||7||
ਪਾਰਜਾਤੁ ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥
pārajāt ih har kō nām .
This Elysian Tree of miraculous powers is the Name of the Lord.
ਕਾਮਧੇਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
kāmadhēn har har gun gām .
The Khaamadhayn, the cow of miraculous powers, is the singing of the Glory of the Lord's Name, Har, Har.
ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਤਿਖ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
anik māiā rang tikh n bujhāvai .
By the countless pleasures of Maya, your thirst shall not be quenched.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਆਘਾਵੈ ॥
har kā nām japat āghāvai .
Chanting the Name of the Lord, you shall be satisfied.
ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਤ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥
jih mārag ih jāt ikēlā .
Upon that path where you must go all alone,
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਤਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ॥
sabh tē ūtam har kī kathā .
Highest of all is the Lord's Speech.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਲਥਾ ॥
nām sunat darad dukh lathā .
Hearing the Naam, pain and sorrow are removed.
ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸੰਤ ਰਿਦ ਵਸੈ ॥
nām kī mahimā sant rid vasai .
The Glory of the Naam abides in the hearts of His Saints.
ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
tah har nām sang hōt suhēlā .
there, only the Lord's Name shall go with you to sustain you.
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
aisā nām man sadā dhiāīai .
On such a Name, O my mind, meditate forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
nānak guramukh param gat pāīai .2.
O Nanak, as Gurmukh, you shall obtain the state of supreme dignity. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਿ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਨਸੈ ॥
sant pratāp durat sabh nasai .
By the Saint's kind intervention, all guilt is dispelled.
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sant kā sang vadabhāgī pāīai .
The Society of the Saints is obtained by great good fortune.
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
sant kī sēvā nām dhiāīai .
Serving the Saint, one meditates on the Naam.
ਛੂਟਤ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਖ ਬਾਹੀ ॥
shūtat nahī kōt lakh bāhī .
You shall not be saved by hundreds of thousands and millions of helping hands.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤਹ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਹੀ ॥
nām japat tah pār parāhī .
Chanting the Naam, you shall be lifted up and carried across.
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਘਨ ਜਹ ਆਇ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥
anik bighan jah āi sanghārai .
Where countless misfortunes threaten to destroy you,
ਨਾਮ ਤੁਲਿ ਕਛੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
nām tul kash avar n hōi .
There is nothing equal to the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥
nānak guramukh nām pāvai jan kōi .8.2.
O Nanak, rare are those, who, as Gurmukh, obtain the Naam. ||8||2||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥
har kā nām tatakāl udhārai .
the Name of the Lord shall rescue you in an instant.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਮ ॥
anik jōn janamai mar jām .
Through countless incarnations, people are born and die.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
nām japat pāvai bisrām .
Chanting the Name of the Lord, you shall come to rest in peace.
ਹਉ ਮੈਲਾ ਮਲੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
hau mailā mal kabah n dhōvai .
The ego is polluted by a filth which can never be washed off.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਪ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
har kā nām kōt pāp khōvai .
The Name of the Lord erases millions of sins.
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
aisā nām japah man rang .
Chant such a Name with love, O my mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
nānak pāīai sādh kai sang .3.
O Nanak, it is obtained in the Company of the Holy. ||3||
ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗ ਕੇ ਗਨੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਨ ਕੋਸਾ ॥
jih mārag kē ganē jāh n kōsā .
On that path where the miles cannot be counted,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਹਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੋਸਾ ॥
har kā nām ūhā sang tōsā .
there, the Name of the Lord shall be your sustenance.
ਜਿਹ ਪੈਡੈ ਮਹਾ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
jih paidai mahā andh gubārā .
On that journey of total, pitch-black darkness,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥
har kā nām sang ujīārā .
the Name of the Lord shall be the Light with you.
ਜਹਾ ਪੰਥਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਿਞਾਨੂ ॥
jahā panth tērā kō n siñānū .
On that journey where no one knows you,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਛਾਨੂ ॥
har kā nām tah nāl pashānū .
with the Name of the Lord, you shall be recognized.
ਜਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਤਪਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਘਾਮ ॥
jah mahā bhaiān tapat bah ghām .
Where there is awesome and terrible heat and blazing sunshine,
ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੁਮ ਊਪਰਿ ਛਾਮ ॥
tah har kē nām kī tum ūpar shām .
there, the Name of the Lord will give you shade.
ਜਹਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਮਨ ਤੁਝੁ ਆਕਰਖੈ ॥
jahā trikhā man tujh ākarakhai .
Where thirst, O my mind, torments you to cry out,
ਤਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਰਖੈ ॥੪॥
tah nānak har har anmrit barakhai .4.
there, O Nanak, the Ambrosial Name, Har, Har, shall rain down upon you. ||4||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਬਰਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
bhagat janā kī baratan nām .
Unto the devotee, the Naam is an article of daily use.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
sant janā kai man bisrām .
The minds of the humble Saints are at peace.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਓਟ ॥
har kā nām dās kī ōt .
The Name of the Lord is the Support of His servants.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਜਨ ਕੋਟਿ ॥
har kai nām udharē jan kōt .
By the Name of the Lord, millions have been saved.
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
har jas karat sant din rāt .
The Saints chant the Praises of the Lord, day and night.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਾਧ ਕਮਾਤਿ ॥
har har aukhadh sādh kamāt .
Har, Har - the Lord's Name - the Holy use it as their healing medicine.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
har jan kai har nām nidhān .
The Lord's Name is the treasure of the Lord's servant.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨ ॥
pārabraham jan kīnō dān .
The Supreme Lord God has blessed His humble servant with this gift.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਏਕੈ ॥
man tan rang ratē rang ēkai .
Mind and body are imbued with ecstasy in the Love of the One Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੈ ॥੫॥
nānak jan kai birat bibēkai .5.
O Nanak, careful and discerning understanding is the way of the Lord's humble servant. ||5||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ॥
har kā nām jan kau mukat jugat .
The Name of the Lord is the path of liberation for His humble servants.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਭੁਗਤਿ ॥
har kai nām jan kau tripat bhugat .
With the food of the Name of the Lord, His servants are satisfied.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
har kā nām jan kā rūp rang .
The Name of the Lord is the beauty and delight of His servants.

ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ॥
dīn darad dukh bhanjanā ghat ghat nāth anāth .
O Destroyer of the pains and the suffering of the poor, O Master of each and every heart, O Masterless One:
ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥
saran tumhārī āiō nānak kē prabh sāth .1.
I have come seeking Your Sanctuary. O God, please be with Nanak! ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਬ ਪਰੈ ਨ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
har nām japat kab parai n bhang .
Chanting the Lord's Name, one is never blocked by obstacles.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
har kā nām jan kī vadiāī .
The Name of the Lord is the glorious greatness of His servants.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਨ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
har kai nām jan sōbhā pāī .
Through the Name of the Lord, His servants obtain honor.
