Shalok:
ਜਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੀਤ ॥
jah sādhū gōbid bhajan kīratan nānak nīt .
Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak
ਣਾ ਹਉ ਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਣਹ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਅਹੁ ਦੂਤ ॥੧॥
nā hau nā tūn nah shutah nikat n jāīah dūt .1.
- the Righteous Judge says, "Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!"||1||

ਣਾਣਾ ਰਣ ਤੇ ਸੀਝੀਐ ਆਤਮ ਜੀਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
nānā ran tē sījhīai ātam jītai kōi .
NANNA: One who conquers his own soul, wins the battle of life.
ਹਉਮੈ ਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੂ ਹੋਇ ॥
haumai an siu lar marai sō sōbhā dū hōi .
One who dies, while fighting against egotism and alienation, becomes sublime and beautiful.
ਮਣੀ ਮਿਟਾਇ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥
manī mitāi jīvat marai gur pūrē upadēs .
One who eradicates his ego, remains dead while yet alive, through the Teachings of the Perfect Guru.
ਮਨੂਆ ਜੀਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਹ ਸੂਰਤਣ ਵੇਸ ॥
manūā jītai har milai tih sūratan vēs .
He conquers his mind, and meets the Lord; he is dressed in robes of honor.
ਣਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਣੋ ਏਕਹਿ ਟੇਕ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
nā kō jānai āpanō ēkah tēk adhār .
He does not claim anything as his own; the One Lord is his Anchor and Support.
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਣਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
rain dinas simarat rahai sō prabh purakh apār .
Night and day, he continually contemplates the Almighty, Infinite Lord God.
ਰੇਣ ਸਗਲ ਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਏਊ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
rēn sagal iā man karai ēū karam kamāi .
He makes his mind the dust of all; such is the karma of the deeds he does.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇ ॥੩੧॥
hukamai būjhai sadā sukh nānak likhiā pāi .31.
Understanding the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he attains everlasting peace. O Nanak, such is his pre-ordained destiny. ||31||
