ਙਣਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਾਸ ਨਹ ਬਢਨ ਘਟਨ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਾਰ ॥
nan ghālē sabh divas sās nah badhan ghatan til sār .
He has counted all the days and the breaths, and placed them in people's destiny; they do not increase or decrease one little bit.
ਜੀਵਨ ਲੋਰਹਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਊ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
jīvan lōrah bharam mōh nānak tēū gavār .1.
Those who long to live in doubt and emotional attachment, O Nanak, are total fools. ||1||

Pauree:
ਙੰਙਾ ਙ੍ਰਾਸੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਹ ਜੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨ ॥
nannā nrāsai kāl tih jō sākat prabh kīn .
NGANGA: Death seizes those whom God has made into faithless cynics.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ ॥
anik jōn janamah marah ātam rām n chīn .
They are born and they die, enduring countless incarnations; they do not realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul.
ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਆਏ ॥
niān dhiān tāhū kau āē .
They alone find spiritual wisdom and meditation,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ॥
kar kirapā jih āp divāē .
whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy;
ਙਣਤੀ ਙਣੀ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਛੂਟੈ ॥
nanatī nanī nahī kōū shūtai .
no one is emancipated by counting and calculating.
ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਫੂਟੈ ॥
kāchī gāgar sarapar phūtai .
The vessel of clay shall surely break.
ਸੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਿਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਪਿਆ ॥
sō jīvat jih jīvat japiā .
They alone live, who, while alive, meditate on the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਪਿਆ ॥੨੧॥
pragat bhaē nānak nah shapiā .21.
They are respected, O Nanak, and do not remain hidden. ||21||
