ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਧ ॥
lālach jhūth bikār mōh biāpat mūrē andh .
Greed, falsehood, corruption and emotional attachment entangle the blind and the foolish.
ਲਾਗਿ ਪਰੇ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧ ॥੧॥
lāg parē duragandh siu nānak māiā bandh .1.
Bound down by Maya, O Nanak, a foul odor clings to them. ||1||

Pauree:
ਲਲਾ ਲਪਟਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
lalā lapat bikhai ras rātē .
LALLA: People are entangled in the love of corrupt pleasures;
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
ahanbudh māiā mad mātē .
they are drunk with the wine of egotistical intellect and Maya.
ਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਨਾ ॥
iā māiā mah janamah maranā .
In this Maya, they are born and die.
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
jiu jiu hukam tivai tiu karanā .
People act according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
ਕੋਊ ਊਨ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
kōū ūn n kōū pūrā .
No one is perfect, and no one is imperfect.
ਕੋਊ ਸੁਘਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਮੂਰਾ ॥
kōū sughar n kōū mūrā .
No one is wise, and no one is foolish.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ ॥
jit jit lāvah tit tit laganā .
Wherever the Lord engages someone, there he is engaged.
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਨਾ ॥੧੧॥
nānak thākur sadā alipanā .11.
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is forever detached. ||11||
