Gauree, Third Mehl:
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਕਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਈ ॥
is jug kā dharam parah tum bhāī .
Learn the Dharma of this age, O Siblings of Destiny;
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
pūrai gur sabh sōjhī pāī .
all understanding is obtained from the Perfect Guru.
ਐਥੈ ਅਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
aithai agai har nām sakhāī .1.
Here and hereafter, the Lord's Name is our Companion. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਪੜਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
rām parah man karah bīchār .
Learn of the Lord, and contemplate Him in your mind.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasādī mail utār .1. rahāu .
By Guru's Grace, your filth shall be washed away. ||1||Pause||
ਵਾਦਿ ਵਿਰੋਧਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
vād virōdh n pāiā jāi .
Through argument and debate, He cannot be found.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
man tan phīkā dūjai bhāi .
The mind and body are made insipid through the love of duality.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabad sach liv lāi .2.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, lovingly attune yourself to the True Lord. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
haumai mailā ih sansārā .
This world is polluted with egotism.
ਨਿਤ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
nit tīrath nāvai n jāi ahankārā .
By taking cleansing baths daily at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, egotism is not eliminated.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
bin gur bhētē jam karē khuārā .3.
Without meeting the Guru, they are tortured by Death. ||3||
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
sō jan sāchā j haumai mārai .
Those humble beings are true, who conquer their ego.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥
gur kai sabad panch sanghārai .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they conquer the five thieves.
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੪॥
āp tarai sagalē kul tārai .4.
They save themselves, and save all their generations as well. ||4||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਟਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
māiā mōh nat bājī pāī .
The Actor has staged the drama of emotional attachment to Maya.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਰਹੇ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
manamukh andh rahē lapatāī .
The self-willed manmukhs cling blindly to it.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
guramukh alipat rahē liv lāī .5.
The Gurmukhs remain detached, and lovingly attune themselves to the Lord. ||5||
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
bahutē bhēkh karai bhēkhadhārī .
The disguisers put on their various disguises.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
antar tisanā phirai ahankārī .
Desire rages within them, and they carry on egotistically.
ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
āp n chīnai bājī hārī .6.
They do not understand themselves, and they lose the game of life. ||6||
ਕਾਪੜ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
kāpar pahir karē chaturāī .
Putting on religious robes, they act so clever,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
māiā mōh at bharam bhulāī .
but they are totally deluded by doubt and emotional attachment to Maya.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
bin gur sēvē bahut dukh pāī .7.
Without serving the Guru, they suffer in terrible pain. ||7||
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
nām ratē sadā bairāgī .
Those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, remain detached forever.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
grihī antar sāch liv lāgī .
Even as householders, they lovingly attune themselves to the True Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੮॥੩॥
nānak satigur sēvah sē vadabhāgī .8.3.
O Nanak, those who serve the True Guru are blessed and very fortunate. ||8||3||
