ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
guramukh vichah haumai jāi .
The Gurmukh eradicates egotism from within.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥
guramukh mail n lāgai āi .
No filth sticks to the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
guramukh nām vasai man āi .2.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind of the Gurmukh. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਚਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
guramukh karam dharam sach hōī .
Through karma and Dharma, good actions and righteous faith, the Gurmukh becomes true.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਜਲਾਏ ਦੋਈ ॥
guramukh ahankār jalāē dōī .
The Gurmukh burns away egotism and duality.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
guramukh nām ratē sukh hōī .3.
The Gurmukh is attuned to the Naam, and is at peace. ||3||
ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹੁ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
āpanā man parabōdhah būjhah sōī .
Instruct your own mind, and understand Him.
ਲੋਕ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
lōk samajhāvah sunē n kōī .
You may preach to other people, but no one will listen.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਮਝਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
guramukh samajhah sadā sukh hōī .4.
The Gurmukh understands, and is always at peace. ||4||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਡੰਫੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
manamukh danph bahut chaturāī .
The self-willed manmukhs are such clever hypocrites.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
jō kish kamāvai s thāi n pāī .
No matter what they do, it is not acceptable.
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੫॥
āvai jāvai thaur n kāī .5.
They come and go in reincarnation, and find no place of rest. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
manamukh karam karē bahut abhimānā .
The manmukhs perform their rituals, but they are totally selfish and conceited.
ਬਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
bag jiu lāi bahai nit dhiānā .
They sit there, like storks, pretending to meditate.
ਜਮਿ ਪਕੜਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੬॥
jam pakariā tab hī pashutānā .6.
Caught by the Messenger of Death, they shall regret and repent in the end. ||6||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satigur sēvē mukat n hōī .
Without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
gur parasādī milai har sōī .
By Guru's Grace, one meets the Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
gur dātā jug chārē hōī .7.
The Guru is the Great Giver, throughout the four ages. ||7||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
guramukh jāt pat nāmē vadiāī .
For the Gurmukh, the Naam is social status, honor and glorious greatness.
ਸਾਇਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
sāir kī putrī bidār gavāī .
Maya, the daughter of the ocean, has been slain.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਝੂਠੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੮॥੨॥
nānak bin nāvai jhūthī chaturāī .8.2.
O Nanak, without the Name, all clever tricks are false. ||8||2||

Selfless service is the support of the breath of life of the Gurmukh.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਾ ॥
har jīu rākhah hiradai ur dhārā .
Keep the Dear Lord enshrined in your heart.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਚ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੧॥
guramukh sōbhā sāch duārā .1.
The Gurmukh is honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||1||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਪੜੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
pandit har par tajah vikārā .
O Pandit, O religious scholar, read about the Lord, and renounce your corrupt ways.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਹੁ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
